no hood or reflector? just the bulb?
Sorry I’m dumb Yes I have a reflector which I guess is a shield, but no cooled hood. I should have said no cooled hood. Lol

Light, reflector, fan, then my scrubber. I’m sitting at 18” right now from top of canopy. I could probably lower it a touch but my plant is almost done.

I wasn't calling you dumb, some people do just hang a 600 watt bulb with the appropriate socket

If you don't mind me asking, how do get those clip on fans to attach to the tent poles without slipping off? I have tried a few different ways and they always seem to fall eventually? Thanks
Get a piece of 1/2" split pipe insulation (the kind for water heater lines and such. Like those pool noodles) and cut a small piece to go around the pole. Gives the fan something to hold onto.
Works like a charm :)

Looks nice....I use 400w HPS from seed to finish. Scare mongers will tell you that you shouldn’t hit it too hard with the light and blah blah blah.....the light from a HPS is no where as intense as the sun so don’t fall foul of that rubbish.
as for distance from the light; simply put if you put your hand under the light at the top of your canopy and you feel it burn; it’s too close...raise it until your hand feels the warmth but does not feel likes it is burning.
In all seriousness mate; people put a lot of unnecessary effort into growing dope; don’t mind fuck it...you will get results

Love when I get a tip without asking; get the same issue all the time except I went extreme and hung the fucker from the roof.....bit dodgy as I could the heat vibration outside my shed and made me paranoid lol

I used a 300w led on my last grow, the results were 32g of dry bud, great quality but just tiny buds. Thought I'd give hps a go to see what differences there are aside from the obvious bigger yield. My set up is a 60x60x150 tent, lumii 600w hps dimmable ballast, RAM carbon filter attatched to a 4" RAM extraction fan, 6" rotating fan, soil/perlite mix, 17L pots, biobizz nutrients.
I was planning on only using the hps at 400w due to what I've read about heat problems but if anyone disagrees tell me please.
How far would anyone recommend keeping the hps lights from the canopy top?
What size is your tent? I run a air cooled 1000w in my 5'x5' tent. I find it to be just about perfect.

You're going to need an air cooled hood to run in the tent.
That being said,
Run @ 600w all the time.
Seedlings =12k Lux. Gradually increasing to no more than 60k Lux by week 2-3 depending on growth. Run anywhere from 55-60k Lux the whole grow.

All of this is assuming you got an air cooled hood and can get the light close enough.

I run 3.3kW of HPS/MH/CMH.
My lights vary from 36"-10" above the canopy depending on the situation.

It's about Lux/Par amounts @ the canopy, not light height. Grab a meter off Amazon for $20. You'll be glad you did.

Follow those numbers and you'll get a helluva lot more smoke than last time.

Link to my grow is in my signature if you want to see results from those suggestions.

Best of luck to you and good choice on switching to HPS. :bigjoint:
Agreed, light height should be determined by Lux and the meters are well worth the 20 bucks. I have my light in a stationary position but im running a 1000w double ended in the sun system air cooled hood in my 5x5 which is right at the maxxx amount of light u want to be putting in that tent. Next year photoperiod plants will grow right into that 50-60k lux sweet spot however my autos came up a little short this year. Very disappointed with my results LMAO. Im guessing 40oz of good chunky bud. IMG_4158.JPG

Please mate....this pic has caused saliva to drip uncontrollably from the corners of my mouth; jealousy has set in and it’s an emaotion I am unfamiliar with...you can’t post such beautiful pictures think of what your doing to a guy like me who had to close his grow room down for a month or two and is waiting on some outdoor that looks no where near as sexy as these.....man I need to lie down
