Helmet head seedlings

Lately I have had a couple of seedlings that have the seed casing stuck. I do believe if I hadn't got out the tweezers they would have died.
Is this the result of so much cross-breeding now days or just an anomaly. Will they eventually shed the seed shell? Am I concerned for nothing? I gave them a couple of days after they sprouted and then I got worried because it looked like the shell just wasn't splitting.

That happens if the seed wasn't planted deep enough.........also, some seeds have a thick tough shell.
I don't suggest waiting to remove it........in my experience, it won't make it.

I use tweezers to get them off. Close the tweezers enought to get them into the crack of the hull and let them open with their own spring. That usually splits the hull and opens it enough to get it off without damaging the plant.

The longer it's left on damage it does.
