No need to check runoff in organic grows , all “ you “ have to do is water in at 6.5 ( even if it’s peat ) . Peat can run very acidic often in the low 4’s . But as long as you range the water to the “ plant’s optimal ph range “ then you are set. You locked out your grow by running at 6.0.

Also , never a need to pull plant and rest in new base soil ..... all you do is topdress more of the soil to recharge both the organic elements like the Myco and composted buffers for the soil. By just watering it in or steeping a bag as a tea drench.

Agreed but it was also rootbound lol Also I decided last minute I wanted air roots(soma style) so they all got raised in the same size pots and that's how I was able to put nice fresh soil around them. It worked 100%. But yeah I know that now. Also, I definitely banged her with White Widow Mychorrizae so that was another plus to "repotting"
 
When I run organic , pot size is ill relevant to me. I merely recharge it at various grow stages and all is well.
Whether a solo cup grow or full 7 gallon or larger. Rootball is dense and plant never slows because of being “ rootbound “ .
It thrives and I harvest.

Recently ran a 10 week on same soil ( with topdress only ) in a gallon bag , start to finish.

Still need a better way to test my soil. Said fuck it and just shelled out $160 for a Bluelab combo meter pen that should be here Saturday . Guess it’ll be worth the investment.

Amazing. What kind of soil do you use to start with? I like the super soil recipes, I would love to work towards a living multi-season bed with worms and all that.
 
I use a “ mix “ of bagged peat blends ... I add perlite , myco , kelp and EWC only.
These are “ water only “ grows ... no boosters , occasionally I dilute honey or blackstrap for a special treat for the microbials.

The key to organic is the simplicity... go out of that lane , you wreck.

Never cared for super soil mixes that required cooking ( no time to do ) , so I compared blends , experimented with dry Nutes but was more interested in the performance “ straight out of bag “

yeah I’m pretty sure it’s my PH. Should have it figured out this weekend
 
I’m back and I’m bringing the barbecue skewers again. Take something like a skewer and pierce the medium all the way to the bottom. Especially UNDER the plant through that knot of roots. It aerates the medium but also allows the fluids a path through it and into it instead of around the mass of compacted medium. And it’s compacted at this stage. It will not harm your roots.
 
You can make distilled water easy just heat water on the stove till it steams turn it off put a bowel in the pot of water then flip the pot lid upside down. You will have distilled water in the bowel.

For soils I like peat moss and earthworm castings as a 50 50. Mix the castings help with germination and micro nutrients pear moss is slightly acidic then mix in some perlite for drainage

nope. I didn’t have calibration fluid so I know it’s off..and guess what. Bought some distilled water and it registered at 8.3!! . Meaning I’ve been phing probably a whole point higher than I should be. But I’m so glad I have the new meter coming along with calibration fluid. And I’m gonna calibrate once a month. Stupid me.
 
So it’s pretty much Ph lockout like I thought smh. Should I make a tea that’s the correct PH so I can get some quick feeding going ?

1.3 higher distilled water is 7.0

You could do a tea but since you top dressed it recently might be over doing it just plain water a little peat moss on top would help bring it down.

Hey there, I actually just bought the whole Dr. Earth dry set myself for my first grow. Can you give me some tips on feeding from seedling-flower? Just follow the instructions? Ive heard great things about it. Starting with Black and Gold Organic, Earthworm Castings, Perlite and plan on adding that stuff. Any help would be appreciated :D
 
If my soil PH is too high Should I water with water that has a really low PH like 5.5? Or should I just water with the correct fixed PH of 6.5?
 
You can it lowers it a little bit faster. I like just replacing some.of the dirt scrap some off the top then add some new dirt. I find it works the fastest. But 6.5 your water will bring it back eventually as well. Depends on the speed you want plants tend to bounce back quickly and people tend to over do it. The leaves weren't that far gone but when that extra lime kicks in it will spike agian. As lime and sulfur isn't instant change it takes a while.

Doing 5.5 ph water would drop it faster just don't do it to long. You can do 5.5 then 5.8 then 6.0.thrn 6.5 agjan

so turns out my soil was too low at 5.8. So I watered with 2 gals of 6.5 followed with a gallon of distilled water. We will see what happens.

the blue lab pen is amazing tho!!!
