i have a grow box in my basement.its about 90-95 degrees in there with the fans on.i have curious neighbors and two teenagers.anything that makes noise is out of the question.i ve heard co2 helps,but i have'nt the faintest idea how to make that happen.could i put a cup of ice in there every so often?i've been an avid gardener for many moons,but never indoors.i need passive solutions.for gods sake i need help before summer really hits.:wall:
 
yes what i do is freeze gallon jugs of water set them in a bowl in the box cuz it will sweat alot another problem is it will raise your humidity
 
what about smell ?

dont you have a outtake of some kind ?

also comes in smaller size .. and some a bit more expensiv that dont make much sound .. even some realy expensiv boxes that dont make any noise .. but then we are talking +1K $ .. that one ther is like 200$ with filter .. can get the smallest 100mm with a small filter for maybe 120$ runn it at low if ther are two settings .. see if it is enough .. or els on high .. use some tubings and isolate em so they dont make so much noise .. but if noise is what your worry about .. the smell will be a hugh surprize for you ...


my 100mm ventiltion and filter made my room drop from 90 to 82-84F and did clear all the realy bad male cat like piss stink I had in all of my appartment after 4-5 weeks ..
 
I made a homeade co2 View attachment 2217948 the formula I use is

in a 1 gallon jug
2 cups of sugar
1 pack of dry active yeast
1 tsp of baking soda
warm tap water 1/2 full

Seperate jug
tap water

get some hoseing from hardware store go from gallon jug into the water of the second jug, then from that jug into your area. you can just leave the top off if this will be in you box(unlike mine). I run my output hose to the back of my fan to disberse the co2. shake the shit out of the bottle with the mixture. should put off co2 for 1-2 weeks.only use co2 in the light hours

i have a phototron.it is a six sided gizmo,but the sides aren't equal.it's roughly equivilant to a 16 to 17 inch cylindar thats about 3 ft. tall.it's kinda cramped.its in the only part of my house that no one else will go.i'd have to run new electric for an ac unit.it would also start the neighbors wondering why the hell i'm air conditioning an unoccupied part of the house.my gizmo has intake/exaust fans.i was planning on jury rigging a filter of some sort when the time comes.so i'm not too concerned about smell.whatever i do doesnt have to be completely silent,but i dont want too much noise.if i put co2 in there i guess my exaust would have to vent outside?do you stop the hose up during the dark hours?
 
I pull the hose out of the box. if you look at the pic there is a hole next to the power cord that my power runs through. in dark hours I cover the holes with a blanket. this is just temp till my real rooms are done being built. but yes stop the co2 at night. I don't know why thats just wha I was told. I think it chokes the plant but not sure. if you have a room just pull it out of there before your dark time.
 
can you put pics of your set up. I don't understand your "gizmo". is it a grow box or a air circulater. if you are cramped for space run a hose to the back of your fan.
oh if no one will go to this place then they most likly wont hear the ac anyways
 
i'm not all that computer saavy.only camera i have is my phone and i dont know how to get pic from there to here.my gizmo has lights and fans,so iguess it's a bit of both.at first glance it looks stealthy,but when the lights are on it is anything but. www.phototron.com has pics if you really want to see it.how much heat can my babies take if i add co2?is co2 dangerous like co?i put an ice pack in there last night,didn't seem to help.gonna put one in front of intake today and see if it helps.i apprteciate the input,thanx
 
i took one of the panels off my gizmo and set on the floor,leaving a 10" by 6" opening near the top.temp dropped about 20 deg. within half an hour.I pored over the DIY thread and found a guy that rigged acooler to his intake.thats a solution that cries out to redneck like myself.gonna try it soon,but ihave to build some walls or partitions to hide the light first.this seemed like piece of cake last week when i germinated,but its turning into alot of work.hopefully it's worth it.live and learn.:dunce:
 
yet another stupid question.what is an air cooled hood and is it feasible for the gizmo i described?a picture or a site where i could see a pic would be very helpful.
 
I have no idea what it is your growing in .. sorry .. but make a desent box of some kind .. and do some research ..

one thing I learnd .. you cant do this half ..

and belive me .. if you success in getting them a foot or two high and in flowering .. your hole house will stink !
realy bad .. and if you have neighbours you better keep the windows closed ..

if you have any way to plant it out side I would go for that .. and do a lot of research/reading/building before I would start a indoor grow ..

try to use a few hrs to read this link/guide ..

i just answered a similar question. you have to design your ventilation system around the worst case senario. 90-95F now? then when the heat comes you'll have fried weed. an indoor air conditioner is great, but not cheap....but a good investment.
 
if it is in a littel green house ? in the basement ?

cant you take off one side as you said .. and make a new one out of plywood or masonite that fit .. make a hole in it at the top and add sumthing like this:

cheap bathroom ventilation .. cost like 10-15$ at "wallmart"
can pull 100M/3/hr and dont make much noise (you can even get some 50$ once who hardly make any ..

but if it is in a basement and a bit hidden and shilded .. it will only be a low humming in the distanc ..

add a cheap activ carbon filter (same price as the ventilation at wallmart)

that will take atlest 95% of the smell .. so your hole house wont stink the last 2-4 weeks ..

Im sure a ventilation like that will help a lot with your heat problem as well .. atlest 5 degress .. keep a passiv intake at the bottom on the oppirsite of the green house and if possible .. make a DIY fresh air intake if possible ? dunno if ther is a window near ? but they will need fresh air/co2

I checked out that phototron, did you modifiy it so it can be light tight(totally dark with no light beams) if not I would just build a box. that set up doesn't seem like it would work without modifications. plus with a box you can make it totally stealth. oh in your light hours you can leave your door open which will help your heat issues, I leave mine cracked all day. in your case throw a sheet over the door to break the light.i don't care now about my light beams.

I had my neighbors jump through my yard when I was outdoor. it scared me so I moved them in. so I know your fears

i'm in the process of building a room around my gizmo.eventually it's gonna be a grow room,but i can't afford to make it into one just yet.i grew up in the garden and i figured i could grow just about anything.this another one of life's humbling experiences.i thought it wouldn't be much different than growing vegtables.oh brother was i wrong.but i learn best by fuckin something up.everybody who has replied has helped me greatly,thanx.next time they'll be bigger,better,stronger....but i hope it doesn't turn into the 6 million dollar project.i'm not lookin to grow a HT centerfold,but i'd like some decent smoke.i had spent all my time researching drying & curing,thought growing was a no brainer.ooops.

will one plant stink the place up bad?
