I’ve grown out a bunch of crosses from people on forums, shit some of my favorite weed has come from pollen chucks like you’re talking about.
My biggest fear is that I grow some shit and love it, and then have no seeds from it to do it again! That said, I also love surprises, it’s just part of who I am, so the randomness of the product is in some ways a perk.

That's when you learn to self a plant.

Not a dumb question.
You don't know until you have a need to know, right?
To self a plant is to pollenate it with it's own pollen.
By reversing a clone to produce pollen and fertilizing your plant.
So basically an intentional hermaphrodite?

I assume that requires me to keep the plant alive and reveg after harvest?

Most definitely.
Always keep plants you breed together if you can.
You might end up wanting to back cross something, to bring out that quality you liked about the mom.

Although, never wait until after harvest to reveg.
Some plants have the strong drive to finish the life cycle and die.
Always clone in veg or after a week or so of bloom, if you can.
So what you’re saying is - when I hybrid a plant I should always clone it before exiting veg just in case I love it, and then once I do, Herm it so I can pop seeds? If so, that sounds perfect

It's one route.
You could also work with the plants siblings. You said you have a whole pack... Find a male with good structure and a strong smell and make an F1. Breed it back to the Mother plant to isolate what you liked about it. Or the Father plant.
Really depends upon what you find that you like.

Well - I’m planning on a trip to Costa Rica this summer (after I harvest my current crop) so perhaps when I return I’ll grow some males and hybrid both wedding cake and silver haze.
My father sent me pictures of himself on the beach in Costa Rica, with a cannabis leaf hanging over his shoulder that covered his whole midsection. He said "damn stuff seems to be everywhere".
Never been there myself...
