I know brother.... My friend is a hid guy and I'd like to do this to see for ourselves and also put it on here for something people can reference. I just need somewhere to get 30 clones.....hmmm.
Id do 2 5x5 foot grow rooms with about 15 clones each.

Personally I think it would be the most simple to do 1000w of each light with clones then if the cob produced 20% more you'd know they're 20% better.
I'm already running the watt to watt comparison, only with 5400W of COB LED vs 5400W of HID.

hey you should try that visual with different shades of the same color, so like two lighter shades combine to form a darker shade in the interval areas. does that make sense?

math day...

so i compiled a more better graph of mutually supporting COB overlap PPFD based on robincnn data

Bare CXB 3590 at 12" in a 4'X4' area with no walls to reflect
Max PPFD 935
Min PPFD 430
with reflected walls
Min PPFD ADJ 645

CXB 3590 with Stella HB at 18" for a 5'X5' area (Blue Box)with no walls to reflect
Max PPFD 1045
Min PPFD 508
with reflected walls
MIN PPFD 762

The HID PPFD Measurements were taken in a reflective walled room clearly; the edge measurements increased 50% while doubling distance from canopy.

the PPFD constant is that distance increased every 50% lead to a loss in PPFD of ~50% with both HID and LED

PPFD constant-ish is that walls increase PPFD ~50% at edge based on robincnn measurments and

so in a walled room for the COB measurements you will see minimum adjusted

Clearly! They kick ass against all the other hoods. I wonder what their secret is?!? View attachment 3713976

But for 800 watts you could have 830 PPFD at a 5x5 spread. With 830 in every square foot.
All the DE'S kick ass. They all do 2 + units a light with a pretty short veg time and I'm speaking of small yielding cuts. It really is unreal. I was skeptical till I ran the word on the streets worst DE. Its breath taking to get more then a pound of 500 watts.

approaching 1 gpw is unreal now?
you know that cob rigs are doubling that, right?

Your funny, was GG not just all up in his thread not long ago discussing something like why can't I hit 2 per light?
And I would not consider him an unskilled grower.
For lights to be compared equally space needs to remain the same as well.
So, some are hitting 2 units in a 5x5 with a DE? What LED is going to deliver that in the same space?

now we're talkin! thats what i hoped it would show!
Pretty much everything inside the square is 8-900ppfd. Just the edges are under

I'm gonna do one for the de 1000s but I don't know what distance growers run the 1k de's at. Online most say 3-4' and then the cool tubes reduce their output by 15% if cooled so I need to find an actual measured par reading for a DE light.
