HardCorps' First Bagseed LST Closet Grow

Hey all! As the title states this will be my very first grow! I plan on using some bagseed I have and LST in a closet. Now lets get onto some details eh?

First off I'd like to thank all those who helped me with my noob questions and gave me advice, without it I would be guaranteed failure. So thank you in advance.

Now first things first I would like to list some items on my grow list so that you know what I'm working with if you'd like to leave comments or advice. It's a fairly small list because I am on a budget.

Grow Space
3x3x6 Closet

Seeds
Bagseed like mentioned. The only difference is that they all might be different strains. This is because my buddy gave me his seed collection (60+) that are all unknown strains. I picked out the best looking ones and set them aside.

Lighting
10 - 14W 6500k CFL's @ approx 60LPW
8 - 23W 2700k CFL's @ approx 70LPW

Nutes
Jacks Classic All-Purpose Fertilizer
Jacks Classic Blossom Booster

Soil Mix
80% Scott's Premium Potting Soil
20% Perlite (about an inch of Perlite on the bottom of the pot for added drainage)

Containers
Jiffy Peats (for germination/seedling)
4 - 1 Gallon Pots (for seedlings/sprouts)
4 - 3 Gallon Pots (for transplant)

Reflectors
Currently I have no reflectors because I couldn't afford enough, but I did coat the walls, ceiling, and floor with a reflective Mylar substitute (thanks Doe).

Ventilation
1 - 250CFM Booster Fan for exhaust
2-3 - PC Fans for Intake/Co2
1 - 16"(?) Fan for circulation

Odor Control
1 - Bucket of ONA with Soil Moist Crystals
AND/OR
1 - Bucket of Febreeze with Soil Moist Crystals

I believe that's all of it, if I missed anything just mention it or I'll realize it an post it later.

Day 1 (Germination)

Well yesterday was Day 1 of germination, I planted 6 seeds into 6 Jiiffy Peat Pellets in hopes of accomplishing at least 2-3 sprouts. I watered with 8.5pH water that was adjusted to 7.0pH with White Distilled Vinegar. I then placed them under my T.V. stand away from direct sunlight.

Day 2 (Germination)

Nothing new to report, just waiting for sprouts. I'll probably water them within the next day or so due to them drying up. (I wont over water I promise :p )

Ok, so I plan on taking pictures of everything later tonight when my girl gets home cause she has my camera... but I'll be taking pictures of everything (grow space, seeds, etc.) because I'm new and would eventually like help along the way.

So Until later tonight,

:peace:Out

Hey all, as promised I took some pics tonight and here they are.

This is the room before the project began.

This is the floor measuring 3x3.

Here's the shelf.

This is the initial setup of my light fixture, I've since made a few adjustments.

Again...

My lighting.

Ok, now here the room is complete, you can see the adjustments made to the fixture, and there are a few dangling lights I will add during flower (I still need to pick up some more sockets). Also you can see the plant layout and the hole in the wall for the intake fans I plan on installing in the next day or so.

Here it is again at a slightly different angle, this time you can see the whole area, new items include the light timer and exhaust hole.

Saftey first, just in case :p

The pH test kit for my water. To me it looks like its at exactly 7.0, what do you think?

The shelf, only this time organized with my nutes, pH meter, water, etc.

Two of the PC fans I plan on using for the intake. The blue one has an adjustable fan control. Not too sure on CFM tho lol.

Another view of my shelf.

This is the booster fan I'm going to install in my exhaust hole. 250CFM according to the box which is plenty for my room.

This is the Mylar equivalent I used to coat the walls. (thanks DoeEyed).

My seeds planted in their peat pellets. Nothing too special lol, I'm just excited :p

And the view from outside. Stealthy :p

So that's it for now all, I'll update when they sprout. Feel free to comment or give any input. Just no HATIN'!!! :p

Looks good im subscribed and am here to help with any questions you may have. I have had 4 successful soil grows which all turned out good. My current grow is hydro, which is my first hydro grow ever. Im trying hydro out this go around as the yeilds are suppose to be 30% bigger and the overall product is suppose to come out better than soil. However i was always satisfied with my soil grows and always got great product. Anyways Goodluck with the grow your setup looks good and like i said before ill try to answer any questions you may have. Those lights are very low wattage lgiths and by the time they hit your reflective substance on the walls they light will probly not be strong enough to go back and hit your plants with any substaintial light. I would suggest buying atleast a few reflectors for a couple of the lights and let the others hang. I would suggest putting the reflectors on the lights that are hanging from your fixture that goes right above the plants and then with the other lights that are not mounted on that fixture i would hang them down by the middle of your plants and hang them all around your plants. Dont put reflectors on those. Hanging them all around the middle of your plants with no reflectors will allow all that light to penetrate up in the middle of your plant where it is hard for your main mounted lights to hit. This should give you pretty decent sized buds all around since everywhere is getting some good light. Goodluck hope i helped some.

yea, ill probably just make some DIY reflectors. ive seen some good ones here on RIU so ill take some time out to do it. thanks for the advice! i wouldve never thought about that one lol.

Looks good, i grew in a similar setup and was hard to control humidity. i got some bud rot on a few spots on a huge indica. other than that it went well. so hope your fans control humidity, shoot for around 50% relative humidity or less, anything more and you may encounter bud rot, unless you have a strain that tolerates higher humidity levels. hope this helps, good luck

forgot to mention, you may need bigger cfl's if you want big buds. I used 150watt 2300k, at least four to five for one plant and added other miscellaneous 100 watts. those 100 watt bulbs are 100 watt equivalent, meaning they are only probably sixty total watts per bulb. check the packaging, maybe i am wrong. you can never have enough cfl's, i used as many as i could and as much wattage as i could. good luck, hope this helps

Looks like you're off to a good start. Time to see what you can do with some cfl's. Are those 100w equivilents?(really 36w?)

well the closet doesnt have much humidity in the first place, it sits around 20% i believe so with the plants in their it will add up a lil more but the fans should keep it in check.

well idk but im pretty sure that the equivalencies dont really matter right? its just the actual wattage and the lumens output correct? in that case i already mentioned it, i have 10 14W (actual wattage) 6500k and 8 23W (actual wattage) 2700k. hope that clears some things up. plus im only using half for veg an then the rest for flower. i might add some more 6500k for my veg though since i havev open sockets.

You def have enough lighting dont worry about what there saying and yes its by the actual wattage not by what they are equivalent to. Your doing just fine cant wait to see some new pics

Still nothing new to report, just waiting on my babies to pop out the jiffy's. I'm kinda tweaking out about them but then again it could take up to a week or so right? Besides, I haven't even had to add water yet lol.

I did take some advice and made 3 reflectors out of some cardboard and some leftover fire blankets I had. I'm going to the store either tonight or tomorrow to pick up some socket extenders since they wont fit without it. I'll take some pics when their installed (I love photography, and showing off my mad MacGyver skills!). Also I installed my exhaust fan and need to find some 12v adapters to attach to my PC fans, then I believe my room will be complete!

So until then...

Right on. Setup looks pretty good to me. Should work fine. You want to shoot for 4k-10k lumens/sqft. I think you are at 8.5 k total roughly. 3x3 growspace ya? =9 sqft
So you are at less then 1k/sqft which will prob slow growth.
I use cfl's as well in a cabinet (stealth grow cab). If you want to check out my setup your more then welcome.
As far as germination the jiffy pellets have a low germination rate, like 50 %.
Try the paper towel method next time perhaps. 1 sheet paper towel, seed in the middle spray the towel so its all damn but not dripping wet, fold it up gently, just don't make it to tight in there. Stick the paper towel inside a ziplock bag. Spray just a little water on the inside of the bag, this will keep it nice and humid in your ziplock baggy incubator. Place the baggie under a kitchen towel under your lights. Leave an empty end of the bag exposed to the light.
When the taproot grows out a half inch or so place the seed gently into soil just barely under the surface with taproot pointed up. Wet the soil ahead of time and spray the dirt you place on top of the seed.
Things to remember about germinating:
100% humidity is best
no or very little light
paper towel method rocks 3 for 3 with shitty bagseed last time

I'm subscribing and I will keep up with your journal. Good luck and happy growing to ya.
