Hi, I dont have any mold yet, But I have been told when using Happy Frog flower Nutes that Mold can grow on top of the soil,, this is apparently from the Bat Guano , Fox Farms web site says this is normal and it is good benefical bacteria, but can this mold effect my plants?,, is it differant than bud mold that can develop later?,, surely it is differant?,,
can this mold be prevented, maybe place covers over the containers so light cant hit the soil?
thoughts,
good bad other wise, prevention,, leave it , let it grow,,

I am 3 weeks into flower using FFOF soil with a small amount of perlite mixed in, I also mixed in happy frog flower nutes into the soil, and waited 4 weeks before top dressing with more happy frog flower organic nute a couple of days ago

Fungi create what i think of as an suprr high way. When working in unison with beneficual bacteria. The rhizosphere. Snd plant itself these fungal webs dictate where and when mobile elements snd nutients go. Best in a highly ammended living soil.

That looks fine to me. However i like to utilize a mulch or top dress to keep top layer of soil from drying out. This will air prune any roots and make microbes slow down or die off. Even 1 inch of ewc is awesome. Also helps prevent pest.

i can either cover the top of the containers with cardboard,,, or i have a bag of perlite i can top dress with, i also have more ffof soil i can top dress with,,
will any of those options help or hurt with what we are trying to acomplish?

It really depends. For moisture retention anything covering surface will work. Fresh delicious earth worm castings are great tho. Provides bio diversity. Constant source of nutrients. And works as mulch to prevent dryout. Perlight can work. I actually use a perlite/ewc/ coco mix with some added ammendments for topdress

Anyone that describes castings as "fresh delicious earth worm castings" is my buddy

Ive been eating a vegetarian diet for a few weeks now. Fuck man EVERYTHING almost looks delish and edible. Mixing soil makes me think of mudd pudding pie dessert just missing the gummy worms
make sure you geta ll your b vitamins and aminos...
it may be your body telling you that you have a deficiency...
test your runoff ppm and PH
probably could use a lil flushing...
Seriously though.. the cravings may be that, just like a pregnant woman.

--- side note--- the asshole in me was reaaaaaally tempted to get like a bigass picture of a bacon burger...

A soil mold or fungus tells me the soil is alive and cycling nutrients. A good thing. If it bothers you just turn it over, let direct light hit it, or let the soil dry. But I think just turning it over is best. In organic soil we depend on microbes. Fungus like bacteria is a microbe, and is a part of the soil food web.

Root rot, bud rot, powdery mildew are all plant based fungi and bad. Most soil fungi, at least the ones we run into, are fine in our soils.
