WOW very nice! Super clean and I love that it is passively cooled. Beautiful light thank you for sharing

edit: I didn't realize you had fans inside the aluminum chamber...still great that passive is an option

How much did that whole project set you back, Growmau?
like many projects, if I built it again, I could build it better, faster and cheaper. But here is the breakdown
16- xml2 - $96 (Rapid LED)
LPC 60 - $44 ($22/ea) (mouser maybe, or amazon?)
heatsinks - $140 (heatsinkusa)
hlg120-700 $65
cxa3070AD (ebay $37ea, 20 lot price) $240
alum channel $52 (online metals.com)
12 luxeon 3w and driver ~ $55

component total ~$640 plus $150-200 for solder, flux, server screen, heatshrink, fans, apv12-12, wiring, screws, paint, alum polish, cob holders, thermal grease & epoxy, connectors etc.
its the little shit that adds up, but you buy way more than you need so you have it for the next project.

A wise man once said " a light doesn't become a grow light until you actually grow something with it" - @Greengenes707

After getting a staggering result from my first grow with this light, I decided to make a video about it. The first part of the video is about building the light, (already covered above).
So if anyone is interested in the performance, purely from a yield perspective, fastforward to the 7 min mark. Thanks for checking it out.

do you think this would work for just a couple plants? or should i make something smaller?

Kudos to you Growmau5, one of the best DIY project i have seen. Thanks a lot for sharing all the steps and financial aspects of your project.

I wish you a very good yield my friend.

@arsenicrain if I were building a light for a smaller footprint space, I would use:

(3) cxa 3070 per MW HLG185c1400b mounted to one 30-36" 5.886" heatsinkusa profile. For a rectangular grow space, like a 2x3 or 2x4.

For a square grow space like a 2x2 or 3x3 tent, (4) cxb 3070s on a mw HLG185c1400b and mount them to 2 shorter heatsinks. You might even get away with using the cheaper profile like I used. The 4.850" actively cooled. My cobs are only running at 700mA, so that allowed me to go for the cheaper, thinner profile heatsink.
For a small space, just make sure to get a dimmable driver if you can.

Nice and clean work. Looks Great!
I've keept always an eye one the design of the bml spyder fixtures.

I would like to know if we can expect an grow report in the future from your bml spyder 600 and your DIY build?
Would love to see it. :eyesmoke:

I don't watch videos, I get too bored and dont learn that way at all but I did skipp to 7 minutes to see your facts but all you had was the yield and GPW doesn't mean jack if you don't know the parameters

Good job btw

My biggest beef with a lot of youtube "growers" is that they get all excited about their new seeds or new light. They post one video of some sprouted seedlings and then fall off the face of the planet. Or alternatively, they show some video of the plants flowering and then cut to them holding their best bud stating "the yield was good and dis shizz B fire" I want the facts, the info , the data. Something I could reproduce if I wanted to , like peer reviewed scientific research. Is that too much to ask? (rhetorical)

Thanks dude for the update such a great tutorial everything was very professional from the build to the video I am definitely going to try follow it and see what I can come up with myself. Hopefully I can make something similar .
