Growing Made Easy While On A Budget

I plan on doing a full grow (from seed to harvest) with intentions of helping the newer growers out. This will include step by step procedures, updates with photos and just about anything you can think of in-between. With the intentions of helping on learning to grow, I also plan on keeping this particular run on a budget as well. Below I will list every single thing being used and where you can find it. Now...please note this isn't for having the best lights, tents or even genetics. This is ONLY for achieving a decent final harvest while NOT breaking the bank.

Now that I have the basis of this journal out, please let me go ahead and say if you have any questions or concerns, VOICE them to me. I already have a perpetual grow going but since I have found my mothers and such, I plan on lowering my plant count and running the mothers for a while. That journal can be found in my signature below. Since this grow is starting from scratch, let's get right into it.

Lighting is IMO one of the hardest things to understand growing. Since there's so many companies in the market, you really need to know what to look for and what to avoid all together. The problem is, they are basically allowed to false advertise and to the newer grower a " 4000w LED Grow Light " for well under $100 looks like a steal. Guess again because the only stealing is the company stealing your money. This is for entire new thread though.

Lighting, Tent & Nutrients: I am keeping this grow on the smaller size so I won't need too much to achieve what I want. Good smoke, grown by myself at the cheapest cost as possible.

The light I will be using for this grow will be a Mars-Hydro TS-1000. The light can be found on Amazon, Ebay or directly on their website. I would suggest using the direct site as I am not sure Amazon will cover the 3 year warranty that Mars provides with their products. It's not the "best" light on the market, however, it will be more then enough for this grow. Price is around the $125 range give or take a few dollars.

I will be using a 32in x 32in tent that I found on E-Bay for about $50 USD. I will be able to fit 2 nice sized plants in this area or 4 with proper training. I am choosing to do 4 plants in the 32in x 32in tent. Training steps will be provided step by step once we get to this area.

Since it's a smaller tent & light, I don't need to much of an exhaust fan to move the air around. I will be using a 6 in Ipower inline fan with ducting that can also be found on Amazon or Ebay. Total cost...roughly $30 for both the fan and ducting. I also want to use another fan on the inside the tent as well. Clip fans are a dime a dozen just about at any store. Add an additional $15.

The medium and nutrients I will be using are as follows: Roots Organic Soil 1.5 cubic ft bags and Fox Farms trio of nutrients along with General Hydroponic's brand of cal-mag. I have found Roots Organic to be a little better then Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil. The R.O soil is roughly $15 per bag cheaper ( at least for me ). Total cost for all 3 items range around $60.

Stay tuned....more to come.

Genetics: This is a very hard area...you can have the best known setup in the world, but genetics will only allow the plant to produce so much. Crap genetics normally equal crap plants. Who wants to put all the time and effort of a grow in, just to have it hermie midway through flower? I know not me. You also don't need to break the bank to find a reputable breeder that offers top genetics at a cheap cost. Breeders such as @thenotsoesoteric is one for example. There's numerous banks and breeders out there....just do your research to find them.

Now since I will be using only 4 strains for this grow, I will be using feminized seeds to make sure I don't end up with any males late in the grow. I have picked out 4 strains that I think would be perfect for this grow, using all seeds well under $50 a pack.

Strains:

1- Dinoberry Bites by Eso
2- Suicide Black by New420GuySeeds
3- Purple Punch by Barney's
4- Wedding Cake by New420GuySeeds

@Red Eyed you're doing gods work. Glad I was lucky enough to not budget with my first go round but this will be an excellent resource for new growers. Its too easy to get lost in the sea of cannabis marketing and make some bad choices starting out.

I have been growing for over 20 years. I used to grow using all the fancy pants nutes and grow mixes. Then I met this guy that had been growing since the 60s and he told me to treat them like tomatoes. So for years I used to use soil from tomato grow bags, as I can get it for £9 for 120 litres. Then after a month or so I would feed them once a week using a seaweed based tomato feed called Tomorite, it has everything in it you could really hope for. Then when it came to flowering I would pot them up into their final pot and veg them for a couple more weeks, only on water. Then I would flip them to 12/12 and feed them Tomorite at 50% strength, then from week 3 of flower I would add a PK based fertiliser at 50% until they were done.

Now I have come back to growing I have been taken in by the fancy pants soil mixes and nute ranges. I am asking myself is my weed any better with the fancy pants stuff or with the cheap soil and Tomato feed? My gut feeling is that it isn't. So much so on my next grow I am going to try the cheap skate method again.

Good luck with your grow. Those TS-1000's for a smaller light sure do the job. Thanks for stopping in.

Many which can be found laying around the house. I'll map everything out with costs and location. Legit everything for the grow. Just wanted to get the thread started.

Yea, if things were more straight forward in the market, things would be much easier. I cannot stress how many things I bought when I started out and now I have that all sitting in boxes. I have bigger grows going but I wanted to do a small fun project,

You don't need the top end stuff to have a nice crop.
Oh i agree with that 100%. Im running a hood i got off craigslist. A "solistek" ballast. low-mid range tents (brand name but the bottom end of brand name tents). I use a trash can to mix my water. I buy fans when they are "oddly cheap" on amazon. Definitely ways to save a lot of money. My system cranks out the heat but thats a good thing in winter. A lot of it comes down to what works for you. Carbon filters and inline fans are something I will never cheap out on though.

I am putting together a list of what I will be using in this grow....

Mars Hydro TS-1000 - light
Roots Organic Soil - medium
Fox Farm Trio + GH's Cal-mag - nutrients
32 in x 32 in Grow tent
4- 5 gallon fabric pots (reuseable)
24 hour timer
6 in inline fan with ducting
small clip fan (inside tent)
Solo Cups
4 -1 gallon plastic pots ( 99 cents ea at Lowes ) <--- I do NOT suggest Solo to final for a new grower. This can cause to over watering and possible drowning of the plants.
Empty Gallon of milk container
Yarn or string
Binder or safety pins
Scissors

Everything can be found on Ebay/Amazon...I suggest going directly to retailers site for the light. ( warranty reasons )
*Notes* Carbon filters are a must for stealth operations.
Nutrients have PH buffers....no need to PH.
