Grow Box Idea

I want to get you guys' opinions on this idea for a grow box.

  • Space is 2'x2'x2'
  • Lights are 20 x 26w 6500k CFL in 8-inch aluminum reflectors
What do you guys think?

It shouldn't be...every reflector has built-in vents, and of course, I already have a plan for ventilation.

What I want to know is, is this a good way of getting lots of CFL light from every angle? The only other idea I can think of is to create a dome out of lights and reflectors and place the dome over the top of the plant.

thats a cool idea. ^ there's a good point though... maybe you should replace 2 of the lights with fans. also having lights on the door may not be the best idea.

i think it'd be great though.

It looks good in your plan but your not gona want those 6500K for flowering. Your gonna need a lower temp rating like 2700K(red light) for that part. Do you have any space for fans or any type of forced ventilation? Carbon filter for when it flowers? Are you gonna LST/scrog? Have you equated how tall your pot is gonna raise your plant to the lights?

I actually plan on having 4 intake fans and passive exhaust through the holes in the reflectors.
  • having lights on the door may not be the best idea.
Don't worry...many years in the PC/networking field (and this nifty book I found: "Zen And The Art Of Cable Management") have trained me to become a master of the art of cable management. The door will be on hinges and will have a handle for easy opening. I will also use weather-stripping to ensure a tight seal at the door.

I know that. I was planning on switching to 8x2700k, 8x4000k and 4x6500k bulbs for flowering, in this arrangement:

  • Do you have any space for fans or any type of forced ventilation?
There will be 1 fan at each of the bottom corners of the box, pointing up. I'm hoping this will keep a pressurize the box enough so that a constant flow of air can be felt exiting the holes in the reflectors.
  • Carbon filter for when it flowers?
Nope, just planned on having a few air fresheners in there...perhaps something fruity.
  • Are you gonna LST/scrog?
I can only have 1 potter at a time, which leads me to consider LST. I've never tried it but I'd like to give it a shot, considering my spacial limitations.
  • Have you equated how tall your pot is gonna raise your plant to the lights?
The base of the box will have a hole cut in it just big enough to fit the potter in. The box will be kept elevated by using 2x4 "stilts". I will use weather-stripping to ensure a tight seal between the potter and the box. This way, the plant can grow a total of 2 feet tall.

sounds like you have everything worked out. good luck and i cant wait to see it in action.

btw i recommend lst for 1 plant. you really can shape it any way you want and you'll definitely make the most of your space.

edit: actually with all that side lighting you might not need to lst to make the most of your space!

Still, though...I want to give it a shot. I like the idea if a weed-wreath! lol Besides, DirtyBoy's always talking about it so I figured, "Why not?"
