Hello people hope all are well

Not normally one for forums but this is really getting to me and disappointing me post harvest

When ever I grind any of my last harvest up it has a very chalky dry feeling and look to it with what look like empty calyxs (pic below) with hardly any thc on (even though its sat at 65% rh in jars). Smoke is harsh aswell and not too strong it's been in jars now for 4 days getting burped every day etc etc but smell hasn't really improved that much, very annoyed I thought this was gonna be a great harvest .

Hash it is i guess

I try to stretch the dry out before I jar my bud to at least 7 days from harvest. That’s not to say I let it hang for 7 days then jar, but rather I don’t jar the bud till it’s just dry enough to smoke. That’s what I want to take 7 days. If it drys too fast an it’s dry enough to smoke after 3 days then in the jar it goes. If you see your bud is drying too fast things like bagging it up in brown paper bags or plastic containers can slow the dry down so that it takes 7 or more days.

In my experience if you can slow the dry down to 7 to 14 days your bud will retain all of the good smell and stickiness it had at harvest. Curing may well improve things from here but properly dried bud is the trick.

I'm definitely doing something wrong then :(

The bud smells great while it's sticky before chopping but when drying loses its tackiness and smells more like strong hay all the way thru drying (7days, maybe should of left it longer) and the terpy smell just hasn't returned.
I was hoping maybe jarring and burping would somehow magically make it better. Altho it was like how I described before I jarred it up on the 7th day of drying

You may need to cure longer, we try at least a month of cure, better more. And bud needs to be dry, not dry but then enough moist to rehumidify the air inside the jar. Put an rh meter in your jar so you can see how it develops. If going up too much in a day or so your weed is still too wet.

Thanks for the replies. I had the jar open earlier for an hour or two, the hygrometer in the jar went down to 61% but has since risen to 65% within around 90 mins of the jar being resealed

You think theyre still too moist inside? Should I stick em in a cardboard box or similar for a few hours? Do you think there's still hope yet? :bigjoint:

Im not an expert but that much increase in that short time couple with hay smell, id go for it.

4 days in a jar isn't going to do much.
nah I get that

Pic of plant before the chop below. I know there are a lot of white hairs still but to me the trichs looked done. Maybe another mistake I made

Edit- i do have 2 grove bags in the cupboard but never used em before. Do they not require burping? Even with rh in mid to high 60s?

Way to early of a harvest. All those white pistils will turn brown/orange and recede, and the plants will put on alot of their mass in the weeks just prior to chop. Those gals barely began to fill out.
Damn I did do research before I cut her down but the amount of varying answers I found all conflicting each other I just went off the trich colour instead as that was what was said the most among forums etc

I'll just have to make the best of a bad situation I guess

From my experience growing is all about doing it wrong once then learning why and not repeating it.

Those plants had a while to go, that’s why when you grind a bud it ain’t right in texture.

here are some pointers to know when to harvest.

1. 95-100% of the hairs go orange and start to recede.

2. The plant stops drinking nearly as mich

3. Trichomes on the leaves mature faster, make sure you are checking the bud trichomes. But this should only really be done when the orange hairs are at least 95% orange.

4. Look at the caylexes on the stem, they go all puffy and fat right? You ideally want your buds (which are piles of caylexes) to resemble them. This will ensure the plant has hit its genetic density.

Wee side note. Not all strains do this, some keep throwing white pistols at the top due to light stress. Or could be really strong sativa genetics. One can lower the hrs to 10/14 to ripen these longer blooming plants

Thanks for the advice mate appreciate it.

My own fault really for not having a consistent method yet (been trying to grow some fire for the last 2 years ) with varied results

Need to find a gameplan and stick to it

Cheers for the replies people

That crop could do with a bit more fade aswell. Did you flush it? Im thinking theres a bit of patience in general needed here. If unsure its always better to wait rather than go too soon.
Uv and violets can also help a lot with maturing and especially smell and flavor.
Also the quality of grinded bud also depends on the grinder.

I did flush for around 7 days. They didn't get any nitrogen from week 7 though, just pk and booster up until week 9, as I read they don't need any nitrogen late in flower and wasn't necessary is that right? This is when I started flushing with pure RO water for a week until chopping it down
