Going To Grow Again

Hey Everyone,

Long time member here. Wasn’t active for over 5 years I think. I grew for a few years back in college around 2009. Grew indoors in my bedroom. Grew Mazar strain. Barely used any fertilize. Used a soil medium. Metal halide lights and hps bulbs. Now with pot legal in Canada, I would like to grow again. Looking for some advice.

I am planning on using soil as my medium. I plan to build two boxes out of wood and insert the reflective material on the inside. I want to use 2 LED full spectrum light fixtures. Either 600 or 1000 watt. One box will veg, other box will flower. I currently have a MH bulb so I’m gonna use that first before my LED come. I’ve never used LED. But I would like to get the operation started. Only going to flower 2-3 plants at a time.

I am not buying an auto flower strain as I will have control over my lights. If I recall correctly it’s 16 hours on for veg and 12 hours on for flower?

Looking at buying the GSC x Jack Herer seeds. I’ve never germinated before. I only grew from clones. I know how to clone. I plan to use the paper towel method to germinate. Once that tap root comes out I know you must plant in soil. When you plant it in the soil keep the soil moist? But does it need a light at this point?

Also am I picking a decent strain? This is all for personal consumption. Make some resin too.

Do I have everything still in my brain?

Your initial Mazar is still great. World of Seeds White Rhino X Mazar kicks and yields great.

Any recommendations regarding the GSC x Jack Herer strain? I heard it’s easy to grow and is about a 10 week strain from start to finish.

Does everyone feel I have the proper mindset going into this? It’s been a while since I grew. I’m a little concerned about starting from seed.

So maybe a Kush strain is better? I was contemplating going with the blueberry strain or blueberry crossed with NY Diesel.

Just looking for easy bud to grow. Good flavour. Using it out of a vape. Decent high. Doesn’t need to be 25%thc by any means. Just for personal consumption. Looking at 4 plants total.

Sounds better to me

I would re-think your lighting idea. Anything advertised as 'full spectrum' is actually NOT. Those 1000 watt lights (actually around 300 actual watts) will let you down in flowering. read up in the LED section and get you some quantum boards, f-strips, or COB lighting. Those purple full spectrum lights are just toys.

Not sure if can build my own. I’m not that tech savvy to do it. Do you recommend any LED fixtures that I can just buy?

Remember I am only flowering 2-3 plants at a time. Nothing more.

Run standard HID lighting , much easier and accessible ... cheaper too

I currently have a metal halide set up for the veg stage. The reason why I wanted to get into LED was if I recall the metal halid bulbs are expensive to run? I want to cut costs on my electricity.

A little pricey, but I flower 2-4 at a time as well.i have a small space for personal that I put a Timber linear 400w cob over.i only need 200w of it and it totally rocks that space.

Then prepare to spend thousands as there is no cheap way around it currently
I pay extra for the power till it becomes obvious led's are affordable and long lasting

Good Luck!
What soil are you planning on using?

I plan on using organic soil.

How much would a 400 watt MH bulb cost a month to run? Probably about $30 extra right? And if you run an LED you could probably cut that cost in half.

And that LED will cost 5 times as much unless you use Chines fakes which you will then need an 800 watt to match the output LOL
You have your mind made up and I have a barn full of failed lights and fan experiments ...now I trust my local growers

If you use cheep blurple LED's there is no real energy savings. They use really really inefficient led's and they tend to burn out in a few months.
