DAY 55 of 12/12 ~ DAY 34 of Flower
So the buds are stacking up nicely, well at least GSC #1 is, don't really know what to think about GSC #2, she's frosty as hell but the buds are just miniscule compared to her sister. She has always been a little behind #1 in terms of growth but I expected more outta her than what it looks like I'm gonna be getting. On the flipside, even though I won't be getting much outta #2 I think it's going to be fairly potent smoke so that's good I suppose.
I've been trying to figure out how much I'm gonna get outta #1 come harvest time. She's big, measuring 38" wide x 28" deep for her canopy footprint which equates to 7.39 square feet. I've counted the tops, there are 27 of them. On the low end of the estimate of dry weight I'm projecting 1/4 ounce per top. So that would be 189 grams or 6.75 ounces. Now she's got roughly 20 days to go and hasn't really put on her serious bud weight yet so maybe I'm projecting a little low? Now the high end of the estimate of dry weight I'm projecting at 1/2 ounce per top. That would be 378 grams or 13.5 ounces. This projection might be a bit lofty, but seeing as how they haven't really put they're full weight on yet, and considering that each of the tops is roughly 1.5-2' in length with bud sites every few inches or so, I wouldn't be surprised if the final weigh in comes in closer to the 1/2 ounce per top projection. But to be completely honest, if I fall somewhere in the middle of that range I'll be happy. Even at the low end projection that's 6.75 ounces for one plant, which is pretty damn good I think for indoors. If you extrapolate upon that number (6.75 ounces or 189 grams) and multiply it by 4 (which is the number of plants I can comfortably fit in my tent) I could theoretically be pulling in at the low end of the range 756 grams or 27 ounces, I run a 600w light, so using those numbers that would mean I would be pulling in 1.28 grams per watt. Obviously this is all simply speculation until the final weigh in occurs, but I'm hopeful for good results and I can't wait to find out how I did! If anyone has any guesstimates on what you think the final weigh in will be let me know, I'd love to hear some opinions!
On to the details... So over the past week or so the girls have had some leaf curl issues (see attached pics). The sides of the fan leaves in some spots are curling up and inward on themselves. There's no necrosis or drying or brown spots, just some curl. It also seems to only be affecting the top of the plant (#1) closest to the light. #2 does have some leaf curl but it's mainly on the small bud leaves themselves which I'm not worried about cause they're totally covered in trichomes. So I've gone through the process of eliminating what the potential cause of this leaf curl could be. 1- Swapped out the nutrient solution and brought it down to 650 ppm, they really don't seem to be wanting heavy feedings and they're growing great so I think I'm good there. 2- Gave them a dose of CalMag just to make sure it wasn't any sort of deficiency, they didn't respond to that so I know it's not a nutrient issue. 3- pH has remained pretty much constant at around 5.8-5.9 so we're good there. 4- My light, which is air cooled, has been pretty much within 15 inches of the tops for their entire growth cycle, and to be completely honest I could probably get the light even closer as my room doesn't get any warmer than 70.5 F during lights on, but to error on the side of caution, I raised my light up to 20 inches above the tops just to be sure it's not heat stress. I've done a bunch of research online to see if I can find any helpful solutions but there's really nothing out there that addresses this type of problem (if it even is one). I'm honestly thinking that it might just be a symptom of unstable genetics. But anyone reading this that has any insight into what might be occurring please let me know!
Anyway, here's the pics, don't know if you can see it but we're definitely starting to get some purpling on the buds! Let's hope they finish strong!
