Ghost Vibrations

Me and a buddy were having a conversation the other day about ghost vibrations. We were on mushrooms, and I noticed that I heard my phone beep more times than usual with nothing actually happening on it. It happens often because everything is connected to my phone so it beeps a lot. A lot of the time, sober, I hear it beep and it really didn't. this is because I hear it go off so much normally that my brain kind of.. Makes it up. same with everyone else.

But it seemed to happen about 3x more that day, and I knew it was because of the mushrooms. Then I started thinking. The last time I did mushrooms, a long time ago, I ate a full quarter. I was so disoriented that I got lost in my neighborhood and managed to get to this field and lay down until I was coherent enough to find my way back. The trees looked like giant.. African tiki people. It was bizzaro. But what they were talking about was even stranger. I heard conversations that I had heard earlier in the day, but in a sort of drowned out, raunchy voice. I also heard conversations that I had been having, but these only came from one tree. So now this is my tree, I know exactly which one it is and visit it whenever I can :p

But the hallucinations that have to do with previous events are what baffles me. Why do we have these? And why do psychedelics cause them to happen more? They cause us to think more, be happy more, be kiddish more, have a sense of awe more, and have ghost vibrations more. Its literally like taking psychedelics makes you LIVE harder.

Why do these happen? Also if you have noticed on high doses of psychedelics, things are so.. They have so much to do with little details. One time we were walking down this trail and my friends started saying 'whoa wtf why is everything turning so orange' They said it at the exact same time I noticed shit getting orange. Then finally like 10 minutes later we walked past this construction sign that was reflective and orange, and we were all so amazed that THAT is what all the orange was coming from. We didn't even notice it there it was so miniscule.

You guys have any interesting input on this?

I hear this discussed on a recent neurological podcast but they didn't go into details. The Doc was saying several of his patients complain that they sometimes feel their phones vibrate against their leg even when it's not in their pocket. He said it was completely expected and natural. Basically it's over stimulation of the nerves that causes ghosting. It's quite common for those who practice electro masturbation. It similar to being able to "feel" someones hand on your shoulder for a few seconds after they remove it. I'm assuming in your case it was coupled with the fact that hallucinogens can put us in a state of high suggestibility.

The Doc did say that it was not a form of pareidolia. IOW it's not the same phenomena which makes you think you hear the phone ringing when you are in the shower.
