i have no problem loaning my money to the fed gov interest free for a year to help them out, but no one is arguing about tax refunds. subject is actually banks. the title of the thread might be a giveaway.

and i got back all the money i paid plus some of everyone else's money via the earned income tax credit because i'm a poor mofo. so you guys paid for my greenhouse. thanks.

I'm curious - why not complain to walmart? Shouldn't they also offer it for free? After all, they cash checks, and you are a customer - that follows your logic.

it might be a good idea for walmart to cash checks for free so that they are in the store with cash in hand to spend. they do something similar with DVDs, they sell them at a loss but make money in the end by getting consumers through the doors. "loss after the sale" or something.

why does it offend you so much that i think a bank i do business with should cash a check for me?

I find asking for handouts offensive. Mute point with you obviously. And then to complain about not recieving handouts... even more offensive.

He's saying they need to because he says so. Of course they could - but they don't. That is their choice, and they should be able to have that choice.

The only reason why they would say no is in case the check bounces, but with a fed check it shouldn't

A policy is a policy, and chances are they have a good reason to have it in place. Do you think UB yelling at customer service agents is going to change that just for him? No, it's just going to damper someones day...

I have NO idea why somebody wouldn't want a check from a party that already has $15 TRILLION in outstanding debt! Maybe the Democrats can spend alot of money on a long investigation to get to the bottom of it.

how am i asking for any handouts, genius?

i'm willing to pay a fee to cash a check with the bank i do business with, so i'm the one giving the handout. and it's not like the check is bad...it's a fucking tax return. it's got the fed gov's stamp on it.

and they sure had no problem cashing the check from us taxpayers. nice way to say thanks. no wonder people are fleeing the TBTF in favor of CUs.

UB, I partially agree and disagree. I do agree that banks change the terms without notice, and that gets me sort a steamed as well. But in the end, they are businesses and will tip the balance in their favor wherever legal (and a few other times as well). Unfortunately, in my little corner of the 'Stan, there are no viable CU alternatives.

Where I disagree is in dumping on some poor phone-support rep who probably isn't a direct bank employee. Hate the institution; be kind to its lower-to-mid-level employees. Jmo. cn

but i can tell you as a former guy-who-listened-to-irate-customers, he's doing pretty good if what he heard from me was the worst thing he heard that day.
