OK so I check the seedling everyday..

I have the 2 CFL's about an inch away and I can leave it an inch away for about 3 days and if I look it will just look like it hasn't grown any ?

what???? this is BULL! where does this info come from? there is nothing wrong with fans blowing directly on plants

Peace

you dont want a STRONG gust of air blowing on the plants, it could uproot delicate root systems

i've had it happen to me

NO BULL!

there is a BIG difference from STRONG GUSTS and blowing from a fan.....you ORIGINALLY said no fans blowing AT ALL if you meant strong GUSTS which will NOT happen in an indoor grow, fans are consistant they dont have GUSTS

Peace

ph in the 5's is for hydro when in soil ph between 6.2 - 6.8, it is ok to blow a fan directly on your plants i have done it forever. ( on a high speed ) As long as the fan removes the heat above the top of the plant you should be good since you are using cfl's + the wind will make your stems stronger and fatter. The soil is not a cookie no need for a toothpick, use your finger or water when pots feel light. Also make sure you dont use nutes until the plant is at least 4 or 5 nodes tall. and make sure your soil has good aieration by adding some perlite
fans don't work for everyone, i've had issues with strong gust of air blowing diretly on young plants (NOT CLONES, just seedlings)

use your finger it the soil RISK contamination of soil, not saying it WILL happen, i said RISK

Seedlings 1-2 nodes tall can use a very little bit of Phosphorus (1/4 tsp/gal of 0-6-4), read up, you'll see!

regardless, i've had sucess using these methods, okaaaaaaaay!

Wow, you poor guy. Everyones 2 cents worth is probably confusing the hell out of you. Here's my 2 cents worth too. I hope I can help.

Use cheap ass soil. I prefer it because I don't have to worry about when nutes run out. And use perlite or something to fluff your soil, it needs to breath.

All I use is MG (oh no! not MG! yes MG) for tomatoes. Not near what they recomend for dosage. Maybe 1/4 to 1/2 and not for all waterings, maybe once 2-3 weeks. I don't have a watering schedual. I feel my soil. Stick your finger in, how does it feel? You can water again tomorrow if they are DRY, don't soak them. Your going for moist. If you have well water, your good. Other wise you need to let the chlorine evaporate before you give it to your plants (sitting out in an open container, cooking pots work great)

I use plant and aquarium florescent tubes. I prefer the correct light spectrum, they seem to grow healthier.

And yes, my fan blows right on my plants. On low and oscilating, but directly into them.

As they bloom, you may need to go get some blooming nutes from a garden center. I use liquid organic, and again, do not mix full strength. And be patient. Sometimes it takes time to see the results from fixing nute problems.

I hope I helped. But keep in mind, everyone has their own way and people strongly disagree about somethings. My #1 advice to you, don't over-do anything. Maybe starting your seedlings in peat pucks might help you. Get a good strong base and than go for soil. Those Jiffy starters at the store aren't real expensive, and it comes with a make shift 'humidty dome'.

you know, rapid rooter plugs work great, you can get an entire tray setup from your local hydro store, has 50 plugs, all you have to do is rehydrate the plug, pop in a germinated seed(don't have to be germinated) and put it on a heating pad, water every 2-3 days.....BAM super easy, GREAT FOR CLONES TOO

Are they dying or just slowing down ? It's normal for them to slow down and let the stem and leaves get bigger. If they aren't dying then it is probably normal.

lol... true... i just water when the pot feels light, after watering a few times you should be able to tell by the weight(pick up a pot before watering and after to see the difference)

@la9:

(Are they dying or just slowing down ? It's normal for them to slow down and let the stem and leaves get bigger. If they aren't dying then it is probably normal.) Well it doesn't look like it's dying the first seedling leaves at the bottom are turning really yellow and that's normal then the real leaves are turning some what yellow in color but it looks as if it's not really dying ?

So it's normal for the growth to get this slow ? I was thinking maybe the pot it's in is too small ? But by looking at others plants... They look huge and in a poit about the size of mine.. And mines just a 23 day old seedling so I don't think the pot is too small.

I do not PH the water I just use it from the tap, I'm trying to make this as simple as possible.

I'm using 2x 23w 1600 Lumens CFL's At this point..
get more lights ph your water, and if it is tap water let it sit for 24 hours to evaporate the chlorine... if your ph is to high or low it will slow growth, not enough light will make them stretch and weak... simple as possible may be the death of the plants...

23 days... you def have a problem you got to spend some cash to grow healthy plants if you dont want to spend the money ($10) on a ph tester than you obviously dont want to grow anything worth smoking

ok i agree with about 3/4 of the people on this thread, you need to spend a little dough if you want to grow. with that said try miracle grow potting soil for seedlings, it has all kinds of nutes and has proper ratios of dirt to perlite to everything else (i dont make it i just use it). i have never had a problem germinating or starting seeds with it. all you will need to get started is good water, light, dixie cups, and miracle grow potting soil. if you do have problems you should continue reading and study more, so you understand what is going on. a cheap way to get good water is to take a 5 gallon water bottle to your local grocery store and fill it up at the glacier water machine $1.25 for 5 gallons, plants love that stuff. when my plants out grow the dixie cups with miracle grow i transplant to larger pots with coco-coir. hope that helps
