flickering lights elsewhere in the house PLZ HELP

I have a few lights in my house that keeps flickering, the other day I went near the fuse box and I could hear some weird stuff happening. I FREAKED OUT. Anyway, after analysing the situation for quite some time, I stop using the flickering lights. However I need those lights!!

This is an important circuit because the lights are the one outside for people to see my house at night. Anyway After looking at everything for a while, I realised those lights are on a circuit of their own, nothing to do with my grow except that they are in the same fuse box (I have 2 fuse box, I realised tonight that almost everything related to my grow is running on that one fuse box, which is also older, and control everything in the basement.

I just thought I would say what's going on in case someone can help .... meanwhile I will try to find a safe electrician to bring into my house.

I have read of some corrosion building up on the breakers sometimes and I feel like it's what is happening with this breaker, is it ok to simply open up the fuse box (without touching any of the wires) just to have a look at the breaker that is causing problem?

If it's down in the basement or something, you might have corrosion in there, and yes, that would cause the noise you are hearing, flickering, and even sparks if it gets bad enough and the load is heavy enough.

any NOISE from the fuse box is BAD BAD BAD! i would take the cover off and look behind it to look for signs of arching or any residue left over from sparks or flame. be VERY careful though cause there are a lot of hot spots in there you can get shocked by. make sure you shut the main off before getting in it to reduce chances of being shocked.

If you are unfamiliar with electrical work I think getting someone in there that is familiar with it is what you should do first. Don't take any shortcuts when it comes to electricity. It can become a serious hazard. Just my .02

What size is your Panel (100 amp, 200 amp)? I like to run 12-2 wire (new) and use a new breaker to my garden so that I do not have to worry about it. If the wiring is the old knob and tube style of wiring with the screw in style fuses, I would think about replacing it with a new 100/200 amp panel. However, I am a certified electrician with years of exp. setting up wiring for these types environments. You will also want to keep your loads balanced on your panel . You do not want 10 breakers on the left bank and 5 on the other. Arching and corrosion could be due to several issues. I would tear down the garden and get someone in there to fix the issue before you lose everything. To sacrifice one crop is worth it. Who wants to wake up at 2a.m. to fire alarms. I hope you have these as well. I keep thjm all over, one in the garden area and one directly outside of the area just for saftey issues and piece of mind. If you do have them, then make sure the batteries are up to date. Replace the every year.

It is most likely a bad connection in a receptacle or junction box, I have to tear out a wall or run conduit because some idiot did some remodeling before I bought this place.

I am not using the flickering lights at the moment and there is no noise in the box. And me or my wife are home all the time at the moment.

How much work (hours) would it be for an electrician to come and install 2 new fuses with wiring and the plugs? (my garden is right next to the fuse panels)

And also how much for the parts like basically 2 x 15 ft for the electrical wires, the 2 fuses and the 2 electrical sockets.
