Hi all, firstly I'd like to say "Hi" and that I've never seen so many "experts" in one place. I hope that you may be able to help me out.
I've decided to have a go at growing my own plant(s), I want to use an old chest of draws (draws removed). It measures around 5 foot in height, 1 foot deep and about 1 1/2 foot wide. I know its not overly big but I'm only planning on growing 1 or 2 plants.
I've attached some images that I took of the chest of draws.

I was aiming to use CFL's for the lighting and on the open front I was going to use velcro strips to attach plastic sheets with some kind of reflective meterial (Tin foil, ect) to the back of it. Using velcro will allow me to tend to the little beauties :hump: While painting the inside of the draws white.

I'm still reading up on as much information as I can. Any information would be greatly apprieciated.

Regards
Nuk

i dont think your mesurements are right.... that doesnt look anywhere near 5 ft high ......is that the chest ur talking about ? well to start off using tinfoil should be a second resort... it can burn plants by creating hot spots.. but if you really want to i dont think it matters much ... but mylar is prolly the best reflective material u can use....

only problem with ur velcrow idea is you have to make sure no light can escape and if odor is a problem ? for lights cfl is prolly a smart idea for that small space mabe with some leds ?
( not nessicary but ive herd some stuff about them )

in a 1x1 1/2 x 5 space height prolly wont be a problem... but i sugest finding the biggest pots u can fit in that area... u might be able to get 2 in there ...
keep the cfls close to the plants or they will strech like crazy and u dont want that so either make an adjustable shelf or adjustable light fixture...
the more clfs the better... as for soil ive herd fox farm is good and like sunshine mix #4 im not sure about the nute's you should use.. i dont know that myself ....venting might be nice... but then with a loose velcrow cover it might not be needed.... as long as u have some airflow/temp control

as for grow times... few weeks to a month for veg? ( 18/6 light) then when they get to a good size u can switch to flowering (12/12) ....... for about 8-10 weeks depending on strain then continue to harvest when the little hairs turn 80% brown/red then continue to treat and cure...

as for strain i suggest something easir . height shouldent be to much of a problem if u have 5 ft... if u have less height then go with a
shorter plant(indica) and for 2 plants... feminized seeds might be nice so u dont have to worry about getting 1-2 males :)
( ive herd good things about c99 and NL )

other then that idk i prolly missed something.. and keep in mind i have no idea what im talking about... so if any1 says osmething that contradict's me then feel free to listen to them

The measurements were just guesses as I didn't have my tape measure with me, it might be 4ft tall.
For the the lighting, I've seen some 62cm, 20 watt fluorescent inter-linking lights. They allow you to connect 6 together. I was thinking of mounting them to the back in rows like this:
- (Light 1)
- (Light 2)
- (Light 3)
- (Light 4)
- (Light 5)
- (Light 6)
If you get what I mean. If this wont work I could hang a light which I could then adjust.
As for the soil I was looking at Miracle-Gro Potting Soil.

Thanks for the input!

no ive herd very bad things about miricale grow ... they burn the plants and might kill them/give u problems... go with one of the ones i suggested... no good growers like miracle grow ( so ive herd) and lights go with whatever works.. but like i said the more the better... might want more then 120 watts ( since ur box looks short go with a strain thats mostly indica...if your into an easy grow then ive herd lowryer would do nicely.. it stays nice a short and auto flowers.. no veg time but the down side is it might not have as much yeild/quality as other plants)

scratch what i just said. If you are looking to buy soil go with something better. Its just what i had on hand. If i was gonna buy it i would buy something else. Scotts soil is good i hear.
