Hey all this is my first post but i have been reading lots of tuts on here on making a grow box and this is my first attempt
i just wanted to get your views and thoughts and see if im on the right track :)

i went with a computer grow box as i dont want anything massive but it doesnt have to be 100% stealth

so this is where im at so far

The dimesions of the box are - (W) 229 x (H) 484.5 x (D) 523.5 mm
box.jpg
The lights i wired myself into a piggy back extension cable, i still need to mount them
will switch between
2 x 24w 6000k cfl's
2 x 24w 2500k cfls
outside box.jpg
200mm fan on the front - intake

cord.jpg
i wired the 3 fans to an adjustable voltage adapter which plugs into the back on the light cable so it is just the one lead.
front panel.jpg
Front panel on the box can open which i have reflector doors on the inside and mounted on the inside of the door is a hygrometer
i only got the fans and lights in last night, had it on for about an hour and averaged 60% humidty at around 26c (78F)

top and back fan.jpg
120mm fan on the roof is extraction
120mm fan on the back is air flow

your opinions would be much appreciated :)

Prepare to be bombarded with "You need more lights..."

The box looks great man, really tidy.. I'm working with a smaller box myself, and have got 3 cfls in there, it seems to be doing the trick at the moment, so I'm not complaining. Tho as your box is that touch bigger, I'd definitely recommend getting at least another light in there, if not two.

In saying that, if you decide to stick with just the two lights, I'll certainly be following to see what kinda results you can manage from that.

Subbed in, hoping for good things.

Cheers, i have a 2nd box that isnt as big that im working on too, its hollowed out and will be more stealth but thats it so far
i could easily fit 3-4 lights in there maybe even 5, but it has the right temp and humidity in there so ill leave it as be for now

and this is with the lights mounted now

pretty much ready to grow now
i will update as i progress, will be about a week before i can pick up the rest of what i need

2nd box coming along
3 fans
1 x 120mm fan front intake
2 x 80mm fans back mounted one above the other - top extraction/bottom airflow
2 x 24w cfls

2ndbox.jpg

reflectors cut and read to secure, fans in place and just finished the wiring for the lights

Nice clear pics, and nice setup man, but one question........
Your second pic, where I can see light on the side of the box, do you plan to cover that with something when in flower or just have a dark room?
**Also nice you did the C to F conversion on your temps for us old school guys. LOL
I've got a PC case all ready to go, a control board, and 3 fans, mylar or sunvisor cover like you used for it, just been too lazy, with stuff going on, and vegging 2 plants to put outdoors within a month and half or so.

Get some Y splitters or a 4 light socket Gage. You could turn 2 into 4... Or 2 into 8... 8 is a reach though

they dont use them in m country unfortunately

it will be up against the wall so it will be blocked

haha yes i figured id help you guys out a little since we use celcius where im from and a everyone on here talks in F mostly

*note temps have been dropping at night which is when i plan to have it on and off during the day when im out
so im just testing levels now with the fans turned down on the voltage adjuster but if that doesnt help i may need to add in some more lights

I got basically the same setup I've used mine twice I had a bigger harvest when I added one more cfl I started my first plant with two CFLs and yea it worked but really low yeaild so I added one more cfl that's really all you wanna run in a PC because of heat is 3 CFLs then I did my three fav techniques LST top then scrog screen and you'll have a beauty happy growing happy holiday

have you got a photo of just the setup?

Look on amazon. They will ship It to your house bro

im probably gonna sound like a complete noob but atleast i will learn and well i dont know much about electrical stuff but my brother showed me how to do the wiring of the lights and his no expert either but it does the job
but he seems to think they wont work with our power ratings or something? or is he just mis informed himself?
in australia we dont have screw in batten holders we use the ones that you push down and turn slightly

if i were to get screw in batten holders off the net and the y splitters would it still work with the power here (aus) or is it gonna burn my eye brows off? ^_^

@Jdude... I think you've got a valid point man. It also sounds like you and your brother are in kinda the same situation as me vis-a-vis electronics safety/knowhow. I can get by, but I don't fully understand the tinkerings of mains electrics.

Now from reading above, Jdude is saying that he can only get 'bayonette' bulbs (*the ones that you push down and turn slightly) in Aus. Whereas most of the posts I've seen from the US use 'screw in' types. Confusingly here in the UK we have both sorts at a ready supply.

Also, he's asking if he's gonna burn his face off by picking up the amazon bits that are made for the US and run it in Aus. I see a couple potential problems here. First off he says he can't pick up the screw-in bulbs, so that'd mean ordering them from online too... Then you've got the issue that Aus and UK both run on 230-240volts mains... whereas the US, if i remember correctly, runs on 110volts mains. Now I'm not sure how this'd effect things, maybe a qualified electrician can help us here, but I do know that I blew out a PC power supply a few years back because the switch on the back had been changed to 110volts and was plugged into UK mains.

Jdude, if I were you, I'd just go to the hardware store, and pick up the separate bulb holders, some mains cable, and maybe a bit of plastic housing, and rig it all up yourself. So long as the lights are wired up in parallel you should be fine.

Also, it's worth noting that Aussie plugs/sockets are different to US & UK ones.

Im not understanding the point of growing in a computer case. It would only be able to grow for a couple weeks before it got too big and you would have to move it?

hey bro it's really easy to wire why don't white black on black you're pretty much color coded done no sorry took so long to get back to you later use a picture of my setupI'm actually moved out of my PC hey I just made a bigger out of wood Its not done when so I'll post that

if you LST the s*** out of the plant any Scrogginsyou can definitely grow to harvest I've done it beforE so x grimace it can be done

i had a power supply switched it to 110v to see what happen when i plugged it in and it blew up a little while ago so yes that was my fear with using american style plugs in australia

thats the plan :D

Lights are on a 18/6 cycle, about 2 inches above
Germinated seeds have been in a sure to grow cube in a pot with 100% perlite for about 2 days now with a little cana rhiz added and they are doing nicely :)

also one has the top half cut off a 2L coke bottle sitting over it

Is 100% perlite a viable grow medium? I've always mixed perlite and vermiculite with soil in the past, I thought it was just for drainage.
