First Grow, T5, Northern Lights

Those leaves are just starter leaves, they fall off later anyway.

Yea, I would think that since I've kept things the same from the start I would definitely be seeing a lot of problems by now.. something must be screwed up with the thermometer.

As you can see.. They've grown a lot in the past 4 days..

good thread jetset. i have similar issues with reported heat when testing my growbox, it sure didn't feel as hot as the therms said. i have two 48hr germs just planted in a hydro this morning running 2 125w ecolights.

i will be following this grow to learn from you experiences. cheers and best of luck

Thanks for following the thread :) My favorite thing so far about growing is watching them grow day by day.. Good luck with your grow as well! it's a lot of fun.. I'll stop by your grow journal sometimes and see how you're doing..

if the t5s are that good i plan on getting me a set a 2foot 55 watt t5s friday(they are rated at 10,000 lumen 4 only 70.00) so i can use those to veg and get them closer to my plants. My 400 is 2 feet above with a fan on it keeping it cool but i think if the t5s were right on them they would grow better and less heat to worry about.Ill just use my 400 hps to flower.... any suggestions??

You can keep T5's really close to the plants.. I had my one plant about an inch away or less for a few days and no burns at all. I just raised the light a bit today. From what I've read T5's are great for veg, not so much for flowering. (Though I will be using them for flowering as well..) A lot of people switch from MH to T5 due to heat and electricity being lower, so it seems like you've got the right idea.

thanks im going to follow this thread to see how your ladies comeout. Like i said ill get the t5s on friday and switch from my hps to that(hoping i dont stress them) then just flower with my hps. Hopefully i can get better results its my first time indoor so well see.

I too have T5's, I have the Sunblaze 2ft-4 bulb- 8000 lumen-96 watt fixture and I love it. My LR2's are a little over 3 weeks old and are about 6-7 inches tall without any stretching at all. I have let mine get about an inch from the tops without any burns. I do suggest putting them a little higher though because it doesn't take long sometimes for them to grow into it. I usually have mine about 2 1/2 to 3 inches from the tops of the plants. I will also be using mine during flowering along with 10 23watt-1600 lumen cfl's, giving me a total of 16,000lumens from cfl's and 8,000lumens from my T5's. 24,000lumens for a little less than 5 square feet, or about 5000 lumens per sqft. Right now that's what I have going for 4 LR2's. When those are done I'm going to do a couple NL's that I got from Nirvana.

Jetset you must be right about the heat because I don't see any stress or anything so...I don't know. They look good though so I guess just keep up the good work.

Yea, you were righta about them growing into it I found today that my one that is growing out of control grew into it a little today :\ edges got a little crispy on only 1 leaf.. Real minor so I don't think it will hurt it much. Raised it about 3 inches today so hopefully that wont happen again. I'm running it on a slight slant with the lower end having the smaller 2 plants and the higher end having my 2 older plants. My fixture puts out 20,000 lumens with 216watts, they're much more efficient than cfls when it comes to lumen/watt ratio.

HPS or MH just wouldn't work in my situation so that's why I went with the T5 setup.. So far I'm very happy with it. Since I'm just growing for personal use, I don't need huge yields either.

The smaller ones I'm going to try to veg out for at least 2 weeks, then switch to flowering, because the two bigger ones might get too big if I let the two smaller ones go for a month. Oh yea and if you're wondering.. I did lose another seed :( It was my fault though and not really related to the method I used.. I sort of lost it :cuss:.. I'm just going to settle on 4 plants instead of 5. 2 seeds left out of the ten.. Might get crowded during flowering anyway. Good thing I didn't buy a 5 pack of lowryders like I thought I was going to awhile ago. Have to allow for many mistakes when you're a newbie..

Well I just checked it after raising the light, and I guess I didn't realize the stem was kind of bending away from the light, now it looks straight and happier. The plants definitely do try to tell you when somethings wrong :)

....sorry to catch up late but that is not true you will not have all those lumens by adding those bulbs do research or ask a ganja grower they will tell you your just giving light to the plants that they cant get from the t5 which makes it just the same as the t5 more spectrum

So your telling me that if I have one light bulb on in a dark room, it's the same amount of light as if I put 10 of them in a cluster? "A lumen is a unit of standard measurement used to describe how much light is contained in a certain area. The lumen is part of a group of standard measurements known as the photometry group, which measure different aspects of light." That's a small part of a page from a site called wisegeek. Here is a link if you want to check it out What is a Lumen? .

more light = better. more cfls = better. That's my understanding. I don't really know what he's trying to say.

On another note, I think I may have found the issue with the thermometer.. I sort of had it in a bad configuration.. I guess it can't be really touching anything, it needs to be propped up with the thing on the back.. I'm not sure if this is the final solution, because I just did it and temps started to fall slowly like magic, but it hasn't hit where it stops falling yet :)

Here's some picture updates.. The second one is the one that got burned a little.. I dunno if it's stretching, but it's damn tall compared to the first one, but it also has bigger leaves.

I'm not sure if growth is stunted or what because I've seen some really bushy plants at 3 weeks. (maybe really droopy plants that I think is bushy I dunno, mine always have the leaves sticking straight out) It's been really hot here the past few days so that could have effected it. The next days will be cooler though. I guess I really shouldn't complain too much though, they're growing, and a lot quicker than before when they were small.

I think they're both on their 5th set of leaves. My small one is on its second set of leaves, and the newest one is still forming the first set.. 1 or 2 more weeks till I switch to 12/12 (Maybe 2 weeks because I want the smaller ones to be kind of developed at least before I go 12/12)

Oh yea, and I still have not found what the problem is with the thermometer. It insists that my gen. apt is still 91F and the grow room is 100F.. I am running an AC unit and it doesn't feel like that to me. It does go down a couple degrees when I prop it up with the thing on the back though.

I'm running the fan right now to strengthen the stems etc.. but they seem strong anyway, not like they're falling over or drooping at all.

been reading a little bit and it seems people really don't count the first week of veg, so I guess my plants are more like 2 weeks into veg.. Gets confusing when people report how old their plants are. :\ So.. 2 more weeks would make 4 weeks in veg.

Hey wyteberry, why didn't you respond? You said I should research or ask anyone, and I put a post up... Why didn't you respond?
