First Grow, Need Some Help Please!

I have just got 5 Northern Light seeds, got told they are a great plant to start with as they are very hardy.

Anyway I am looking to grow 5 plants and potentially increase to 10 after seeing the yield of this first grow.

So here are my questions to all you growers,

1.) what area should I be looking at to grow 5 plants in? I want to veg the plants for 4 - 8 weeks.

I was thinking an area of 2 Square Metres would be adequate for 5 plants, is this too much or too little?

2.) what lighting would I need for 5 - 10 plants?

I was looking at a 600W HPS Cool White Grow Light with ballast, would this be too much or too little?

3.) would the 600W HPS be able to cover the veg stage and the flowering stage?

4.) what sort of cooling system would I need? would two 150mm fans cover it?

I am on a low budget at the minute so I have not looked into any carbon filters etc.

would appreciate any opinions on my plans.

Thanks in advance

You are going to be told to take the time and do some reading on here, and that's good advice. I suggest not starting out with all five seeds as every new grower screws up their first grow.

2 square feet per plant. So 5 plants, 10 square feet.

600w MH/HPS will be plenty for 5 plants.

Just know that of your 5 seeds, you may not grow 5 plants to harvest. You need to account for males and/or hermi. Also other problems may arise. You dont need much space for the first month, that will get you to where you will know exactly how much space you need. Do some more reading and plan everything ahead of time and you shouldnt have a problem.

would I be able to use a Cool White Bulb For the Veg stage and the Flowering stage and just change the cycle?
would the light need to be run at the whole 600W during veg stage? Or is it better to use a Fluorescent light to veg?

Yeah I Forgot to say they are 5 Female Seeds

Cool dude, here goes:

2 m2 is ample for 5 plants. Ideally you could fit 8-12.

600W HPS will do the job for 5 perfectly - our best advice we can offer you is to ensure you get an air-cooled reflector as we had major temperature problems without. Also it means you will be able to hang it closer to the plants. For 8-12 you would need to consider 2 x 400W or 2 x 600W (think high yield).

Yes - the 600W will cover you for both veg and flowering. Why are you vegging for 4-8 weeks? Are you scrogging?

You will need a carbon filter (unless you have no neighbours/visitors) in the last couple of weeks of flowering they will start smelling, consider also harvest! Check out e-bay for 4"/5" carbon filter and intake fan - some are quite reasonable, you wont have to buy it for another no of weeks anyway.

For cooling two 150mm fans will do just fine. They like a bit of breeze under the canopy too.

Hope this helps dude. PM me.

what would I need to cool the bulb down?

I am not really sure how long I should be vegging for to be honest, I am a complete noob to this

Am I right in saying the longer I veg for the larger the yield?

Thanks For the advice though it's helped me a lot

Wait, what?

The first advice I got was to not start all five seeds at the same time and I was glad I listened. Do 3 and save 2, you'll probably not screw it up, but you'll be very happy if you do and something goes wrong
