Day 5

Meryl is starting to grow a lot faster! I can see her next node coming already, so it looks like she's responding well to her new home. Her leaves did look a little droopy this morning, and the soil was still bone dry, so I added some water.

Naomi's first leaves are growing pretty quickly. A couple days ago they were barely visible to the naked eye!

I decided to put some aluminum foil (dull side out) on the underside of the shelf just above the lights because putting a towel/quilt in front is starting to make the room too hot.

Will this compensate for any light lost in the area before I get the space blanket?

I also managed to get my hands on a bigger fan to use in conjunction with that little one, so here's how the setup is looking now

Enough light for that amount of space or should I add some more?

p.s. your best bet get yourself some white paint. I find white to be more reflective. this is my opinion on grows. Foil will create to many hot spots.

Yeah, I've heard if it has a lot of wrinkles it can do that. Most of the closet it matte white as you can see, but that woodgrain shelf needed something to be more reflective, and seeing as I rent and was specifically told not to paint anything, I'll have to go with foil

Althought I was also specifically told not to conduct any activity involving drugs as well :P

yup not a bad lil setup. since u rent and cant paint just invest a lil cash on some panda film or mylar. the panda a lil cheaper but just as good. keep us updated bro

I love panda paper, durable, strong, reflective, perfect. I used it to seal my windows and my grow closet. Shits amazing.

hells yea to the panda peeps. a must for the grower that cant afford the mylar from they local shop, cuz the mylar a lil expensive for the CFL grower. just my 2 cents worth

try ebay. can get a 10x10 sheet for like $30 total. or get on growshop.com and find a local hydro store might be a lil more expensive there......but dont gotta wait for shipping

Day 7

Went and got the space blanket from Wally's today. It seems to work pretty well, at least from how the girls are responding. I decided to just tear down the towel/quilt setup and put the space blanket over the opening. The room seems a lot cooler and brighter as a result, with less light leakage to boot. It's kind of weird, I can see the bulbs clearly through the space blanket, but it's kind of like looking through a heavily tinted limousine window. Seems like a lot more light is getting reflected back the the girls, though.

Meryl's 2nd node is in shooting up, should have some fan leaves in another few days. Naomi has started her 2nd node today, so I'm starting to get pretty psyched! From what I've read the first week or two is always the slowest/most boring part, but I can't help but feel like a proud daddy already.

Started watering with a heavily diluted (1/4 strength) fish emulsion blend yesterday and they seem to like it just fine. I'll probably kick it up to 1/2 strength next week and see how they respond from there. With any luck I may be able to buy some FoxFarm or EarthJuice nutes by next week as well...

I'm kinda concerned though. This space blanket looks like it's made of nothing but mylar, but there are a lot of creases in it, will the hurt my babies by making hotspots?

not really........will just kinda reflect the light at a diffrent angle. and also id hurry up and get those nutes. i personly prefer the Humboldt Bloom Natural. works great and is all ntural. makes ur end result taste and look better

I just checked out their website and it seems like I'd have to supplement that with some other nutes. I'll be buying some Ocean Forest next week to repot them, so that should help give a good kick in the ass to the whole process.

yea the guy at my supply store told me that stuf was great. and yea the humboldts do need some extra supplements.....but it worth it in the end. unless u got the money for the advanced program and then thats what id use. but imma broke white boy living in the hood LMAO

True dat! I may buy some humboldt and supplement with Earthjuice and Alaska to give it the extra boost it needs. Right now they're so small that the diluted Alaska mixture seems to be doing the trick all by itself. 2nd node is looking pretty on both of them, by the way. It's shocking how quickly they start growing after that first week!

yes it is. once the first branches come out then they really just seem to take off at light speed. mine just get bushier and bushier everyday lol

Day 10

The girls are looking nice today, I've switched out one of the 6700k for a 2000k and added another 2000k to give a better spectrum of light. Here's how the setup looks now

New Lights.jpg

Although I might be buying some higher wattage bulbs now that I checked Hooked's thread about watts v lumens

Here's Meryl as of last night

And Naomi

They're both showing progress every day, but I think their growth may be stunted. Should they be bigger by now or am I just being impatient? If they should be growing faster, is there anything I can do to increase growth rate?

I'll be grabbing some Ocean Forest next week and some better nutrients as well, so we'll see if they start springing up after that. I also plan on moving them into a seperate space (possibly a rubbermaid box) soon to give them a smaller spot to grow, hence more proximity with less cubic feet.

They should take well to the better soil and nutes, and should start to take off real soon...
Great idea BTW, increasing light proximity, by decreasing area...

Hey bro, some strains grow slower at first then take off eventually, let them get used to their new home ;) Marijuana can be a very mysterious plant my friend.
