Light schedule of 12/12, shutting off at 8 PM and turning on at 8 AM.

Somehow, electrical tape melted onto a wire nut and burned through the wire nut, burning and releasing one set of wires, and shutting off the light. I assume it had to have happened right before shutoff time, as that would be the hottest point in the tent.

My question is this: How likely am I to hermie? I know its extremely bad for the dark period to be interrupted with light, but what about the light being prolonged with dark? My light shouldve turned back on at 8 AM, but instead didnt come back on until 5:15 PM when I discovered and repaired it. So the plants had an extra 9 hours of dark on top of 8 already, making a total of 17 hour dark period. I have know fixed the light and put it on its original timer, so they are set to shut off AGAIN in about 3 hours come 8 PM.

Whats my best course of action? Should I leave the lights on for 8 hours FROM THE POINT OF FIXING, resetting my timer and making a new on/off schedule? Or should I leave it how it is, business as usual, and hope everything is ok?

Thank you for any and all help!

When things like this happen, best thing is to give darkness>light.

even if its 5 hrs of light, dont matter, just keep that dark cycles under 12 hours, 3 days dark is fine, just no more then 12 hours light, ANYTIME.

so, as long as you didnt give 12 hours or more continuous, you should be fine. it doesnt care about the dark.

good luck,

If the light cycle is broken with dark. ..No problem... If the dark period is broken by light it could cause problems...

I would suggest using wire nuts and then electrical tape over the wire nuts...the plant will be fine but electrical problems can be life threatening...g/l

Thanks for all the help guys!

To be clear, the wire nut melted BECAUSE of the electrical tape. I had electrical tape over the wire nut, which I assumed melted and thus also melted the wire nut.

Be careful with those COBS... they use deadly amounts of voltage... I was just reading about a driver not being UL certified... be very careful with all your connections. Not worth burning your house down over a weed.
