Fan controller for Centrifugal Water Pump?

I've searched all over the net and forums for this answer but couldn't find it.

Would a Fan Speed controller such as this (or any other similar model) work on a 1/2HP Flotec Centrifugal water pump?

I would like to have a variable speed adjuster so that I'm not over-pressurizing my water cooled system.
Anyone have any suggestions or ideas on this?

Bump.. Anybody at all have information on this? I'm sure there's some engineers here who could chime in.

I would not do it. The pump was designed and built to pump X number of gallons at X pounds of pressure and able to lift water X number of inches. Varying anything like speed, blade pitch or pressure will give you results you might not anticipate including possible pump failure. Contact the manufacturer with your concerns and ask if there is an approved way to reduce pump RPM. When there is a noted lack of something like speed controllers for pumps it's usually because it is a bad idea, not that you got it first.

Explain how this centrifugal pump is pressurizing a system. Is this a cooling loop?

Exactly. Water cooled system leading out to a 1" manifold. I'm just wondering if there's a way I could cut down on electrical costs while also reducing the overall GPM. I overshot by a LOT and have a pump that's much too powerful and noisy for my needs.

Solid logic though. I just figured someone MUST Have experimented with this before. Flotec Cast Iron pumps should come with a variable speed controller. Grrrrrr...
