Expert Advice Needed w/ Earth Juice Organic Nutrients Recipe

Hi all, I'm looking to see if anyone has some advice on what a good recipe/mixture/dosage of Earth Juice organic nutrients would be for my current setup, because what I'm doing now doesn't seem to be working very well.

Basically I'm growing the same strain (NL99 - Northern Lights X Cinderalla 99 by Joey Weed Seeds) side by side, one plant is growing in a soilless mix using only Earth Juice organic nutrients and the other plant is growing in a DWC bubbler bucket using only GH 3-Part Flora series nutrients. Both plants are in 2 gallon buckets growing under a 400w HPS inside a Dark Room grow tent.

I started this experiment to come to my own conclusion on whether or not organically grown buds taste better than hydro buds. I'm getting pretty good now at the hydro growing, the DWC plant is growing perfectly and quickly, but I don't think I'm using a good Earth Juice mixture to feed the organic plant because that plant is growing slower, its not as big, and its starting to turn slightly pale green.

Its a little hard to tell by the pic I uploaded below but the organic plant in soil is in the front and the hydro DWC plant is in the back. Both plants are currently at day 17 of flowering (I like to keep them short).

Here are more details on my watering/feeding routine:

  • Plant gets watered with about 1 to 1.5 gallons of water every 3 days. 3 days is about how long it takes for the top of the soil to dry out a little and 1 to 1.5 gals of water is just enough to have about a 10% run-off out of the bottom at each watering.

  • I have the entire Earth Juice line (Grow, Bloom, Micro, Catalyst, & Meta-K) but I'm really confused on when I should be using each and how much I should use. What I've done so far is mix 1/4 tsp of each product with the 1 gallon of water at each watering, which is obviously not what I'm supposed to do.

  • The NL99 is a light feeder for me so as a comparison in the hydro bucket I use 1/4 tsp of the GH Micro, 1/4 tsp of the GH Grow, and 1/2 tsp of the GH Bloom per 1 gallon of water and the plant seems to love every minute of it.

My questions are:

  • If I water my plant with about 1 to 1.5 gallons of water at each watering, what do you think is the best amount of Earth Juice nutrients to include in the mix?

  • If this strain is thriving at a ~5.8 pH in the hydro bucket what pH should I aim to keep the organic plant in the soilless mix at?

Thanks!

I don't have the Catalyst or the Meta-K, but I do use the other 3. I am fairly new to them, but I think you're using less than they recommend. A Moderate/Normal dose is 1 tablespoon per gallon of both the Grow and Bloom nutes. I'm pretty sure the label says that the Micronutrients are supposed to be used every 2 weeks, and the doseage is much lower than the others. The directions are on the left of the label. Good luck.

I found this somewhere on the internet, I've been using Earth Juice for my soil grow, its working well so far.

Which leads us to our “standard” full strength Earth Juice grow recipe.

1 to 2 TBSP Grow
1 tsp Bloom
1 tsp Catalyst (uniquely called Xatalyst here in Canada for some odd reason )
(all ingredients are added to a gallon of water . . . )

The only difference between this and the prior mix is this one has an extra boost of Meta K and Microblast to make the feeding even more complete.
1-2 TBSP Grow
1 tsp Bloom
1 tsp Catalyst
1 tsp Meta-K
1 tsp Microblast

We like to use something along the lines of the following recipe for the first couple weeks of flowering:
1 TBSP EJ Grow
1 TBSP EJ Bloom
1 tsp Catalyst

Mixing an Earth Juice Bloom formula for middle or late bloom can be as easy as:
1 TBSP EJ Bloom
1 tsp EJ Catalyst

The flowering micro-mix usually goes together like this:
1 TBSP Bloom
1 tsp Catalyst1 tsp Meta-K
1 tsp Microblast

Thanks for the info I'll give those mixes a shot

What do you think about the pH, what should I adjust it to prior to watering the plant?

Your average is right on about the mixes. That came from 3lb's recipe. You can find this and alot of other goodies over at breedbay where subcool has a ton of tuts like he does here. Hopefully I can post this about breedbay if not I am sorry. About PH it is a toss up some say yes ph water some say no as long as your mix has some dolemite lime in it. The living soil will automatically break it down and make it usuable and you dont have to worry about PH. I personally dont ph my water with organics. I use ej as well. Make sure you mix and shake that shit thouroughly.

I tried ej on a test plant once,.. didn't pH it,.. after a few days leaves on only that plant were wilting and yellowing. I'm glad I only used it on one plant. Those bottles don't have any expiration date, my theory is if you get an older one the bacteria in it will have created enough metabolic waste to lower the pH. The runoff on that plant was pH 4.

It's not hard to go acidic if you're using organics. You should always check the pH of stuff you're trying out for the first time and keep an eye on what it does to your plants a few days after first applying it. It's not hard to pH and it can prevent disaster.

im using earth juice grow and catalyst for my veg cycle, just transplanted new clones in 2 days ago. i used about 5 tbs of each for 10 gallons, so about half dose for now. next week i will bump to normal and see how growth progresses, this is my first grow.

when using earth juice it is best to use it in fully organic situations where the rhizosphere has plenty of microorganisms. the beneficial bacteria will help to control ph and allow the plant to take in the nutrients more efficiently. also when using the earth juice line it is best to mix the nutrients in r/o water and dont ph, using it immediatly. when done this way the organisms in the soil/soiless mixture have the ability to break down the nutes allowing your plant full access to them. i do not recommend using these nutes in a hydro system...contact greenfire in sacramento california for a complete recipe on earth juice that will out do all synthetics

I used EJ two grows in a Ocean Forest mix for half of my plants and both times the other nute system which is not Organic(Fox Farms Full) outperformed the EJ bigtime. I had full line-up. Grow/bloom/Meta/Cat/Micro/Hi_Brix(I still use Hi-Brix molasses with my FF nutes) and I could not master the learning curve of EJ. I admit I didn't give it much time but I was having so much success with FF I just gave my EJ to a buddy and he doesn't get great results from it either(he mainly uses Canna). Could be old nutes but IMO you need to fed HEAVY. I couldn't keep my EJ plants green enough in late veg and throughout flower, they yellowed way to early and the bud production was sub-par. Your best bet is to follow that 3lb recipe and work it into your own system. But don't be afraid to fed HEAVY. I fed light to medium and did not get great results. Hopefully a EJhead will come around and help. ALSO. I see the issue of "should I pH or not" well I did not my first run with EJ and it was a horror show, I did pH as best I could the second run but it wasn't easy. You'd think a stable soil and a few pH feeds would keep her in range but it was all over the place. Then again I've read you can't properly read pH accurately in organic. Good Luck

Im doing 17 females 4 diff strains in ocean forest and ej bloom grow cat microblast and hi brix. Using dynagro protekt for k w every feeding.

Feed every watering every ~3 days. 3tbs bloom 2tsp cat and a tbs of grow. I give it ~2 days to brew and have had a small ph priblem.

My main plant in a 5 gallon i over fertilized phosphorus with the above combination and a half cup of happy frog high phos guano added week 1 of 12/12. It caused a zinc def along with others that deprived bud development. The clones of the monster i did not add the guano. They also recieved the same recipe and they are doing spectacular. Dont be afraid to feed heavy and be sure to atleast give it a day to bubble

Heres what I have found about Earthjuice. You have to follow the recommended doses. Dont ever feed less then the mild dose or else it is just an acidic solution with not enough bioactivity to get the ph to rise to acceptable level when it is in your rootzone. This is like feeding water with a ph of 3.8

If you give them at least the mild dose the plant will work with the microbes inside the formula and as they are broken down they will control the ph of the rootzone.

Heres what I do about the low ph. I bubble with catalyst to get it to rise about every other feeding. On the feedings that I dont bubble I just raise the ph to 5 and then feed them. Not necessary but it gives the microbes a jumpstart from the low initial ph of 3.8 and is more effective then higher 6.5 ph feedings.

Yes most likely they are underfed. Also, if you click on the earthjuice feed chart I posted above u will see EJ says to use tap water with their nutrients. Send the company an email. They have been very helpful to me over the years.

Look at the bottle and it will tell you whats inside! Earth juice is suppose to be used with tap water. If you are using ro water u need to add ca mag and thier micro every feeding. Plus if or when using organics is all about your microbes. If their is none in your soil you need to creat one. Buy some myco madness and do a brew with half a table spoon of grow and bloom and 5 table spoon of molasses. When brewed for at least 24 hrs put a tea spoon of mycomadess and let it brew for 30min then feed your soil. I do this 2 weeks before even planting anything in it. People need to learn and stop complaining. Salt based nutes are the easiest to use but organics is about nature. I use organics outside a salts inside. Check out my threads and you could see my grandoggy purps in action. Maxi series and earth juice with fish emulsion

I can't say I've read each and every response to your question, so my apologies if I am repeating anything that's already been said...

First off, there is much more to growing organically than pouring a certified organic liquid onto some sort of sterile "organic" medium. If you want to truly taste organic bud, you've gotta concentrate more on your soil and less on which bottles to feed it. The real magic of organics happens in the soil.

The answer for whether or not to adjust the pH or your nutrient solution depends entirely on the quaility and buffering ability of your soil. Buffering ability is dependent on having a sufficient quantity of humus and diverse populations of bacteria and fungi. It's about MUCH more than just adding dolomite lime to your soil. After all, lime can only raise your soil pH, not lower it. Your soil microbiology has the ability to raise (bacteria) or lower (fungi) your soil's pH, and best of all, it can do this based on signals (in the form of root exudates) received directly from your plant.

If a soil has strong buffering ability through the addition of plenty of humus (compost or worm castings), it doesn't much matter what pH you pour on it. I can pour on some fish hydrolysate with a pH of about 4, and the runoff will be about 6.5. Or, I can pour on potassium silicate solution with a pH of over 8. Again, the runoff will be about 6.5. BUT, this is with a soil that has been recycled numerous times, and contains a healthy portion of my home made worm castings. I wouldn't necessarily try that with some store bought soil from a bag.

If you want to address the low pH of your Earth Juice nutrients, do so by bubbling them in a bucket for a day or two. The pH will begin the rise.

For some good advice on Earth Juice nutrients, google "3LB Earth Juice Guide". The Three Little Birds wrote an excellent post about Earth Juice, and it's still floating around out there.

Question, I know you're suppose to start using Bloom and add it little by little throughout the flowering phase, but how much is a good starter? 1 tablespoon?Or is that even to much to start? The thing is I'm only using EJ Grow and Bloom throughout the whole grow, next grow I'll do the whole line. Someone with actual experience please help, first grow and I don't wanna fuck up.
