Experian credit bureau and whoever gives them authority can lick a herpes sore

Why does experian have any authority? Who are they? What gives them any legitimacy?
Wow!
Got a notice about low credit score - not true not as low as this paper says, then it says I can contact experian, and gives a phone number, I call, the number is disconnected, then it gives a web site, so I go on and i'm filling out all sorts of information, then it gets to a section where it asks the date of negative action, it won't let me enter in the date, tried a bunch of times and nope, won't let you put the date in and won't let me go on, so I go to their contact us and get another phone number, and guess what this one works and says sorry they are having technical difficulties and to try back later and hangs up.
How does a company that can't answer a phone or maintain a web site have the ability to have major impacts on peoples lives
WTF

Shit ain't right
The whole thing is fucked, first off answer the phone and if you are some life impacting company maintain your web site and secondly the info isn't even correct, sure my credit isn't great but they are mentioning a deposit being needed for a score below 520, and I had to pay a deposit, my score is around 640 according to everything I've checked so It says I should contact experian if I have questions to get my credit report, and they can't even get a phone number that works and someone to answer it but they pass judgement on my credit worthyness, well at least I pay my phone bill and answer my phone. So not only is the info not right as far as I know but it cost me money which isn't even the big deal but finding out this company can't even be contacted and they are in charge of determining my business dealings pisses me off. Not to mention the concept of someone who has a low score paying more is messed up, I guess that is one way to keep the poor poor- charge them more

Have you applied for any new credit cards or given anyone a reason to check your credit? Balance transfers or anything like that? That can ding your credit.

Yeah my score would have been pulled a couple times recently, so a couple inquires recently but no new credit card applications or anything so yes that would knock it a few points but that's it and all my bills are paid on time some debt etc, but that isn't even the issue, the issue i'm having is the fact that they can't even answer a phone and their website doesn't work but they are the go to company when someone wants to judge your level of responsibility and that pisses me off.

I think there is a website that will give you your credit report for free once a year. Maybe go there and get your report, so you can answer the questions at the shitty site to finish your complaint. I hate those credit reporting agencies too. Waaaaaaay too much unregulated power, and waaay too hard to sue.

Ok so I guess their site only works with IE so I just got it done in IE but the whole thing still sucks I just thought I would update everyone as to the part that was my fault

You can get all three for free once a year. Also your bank, or better yet if you have a credit union they can give you a detailed report.

Yeah no shit I just tried calling the Fraud victim assistance figuring that would go through. Nothing, "we are experiencing technical blah blah". Tried the number on my credit report and same thing. Maybe tomorrow?

Can I stop "soft inquries" on my credit somehow?
I have some debt collection company that bought a old allegid debt and sent me some collection letter and is pulling my credit all the time for years, it shows it as an inqurie that isn't shown to prospective lenders and doesn't affect my score- I still don't like this company checking my credit all the time for years.
Is it bad? What can they do? I read about sending them some letter to tell them to cease communication with me but i'm afraid that might make it show up on my credit report again and restart the process of the time limit? Is there any reason to or not to send them a letter?
The allegd debt is 17 years old and is like $200 but if I were just to pay them then I hear it gets reported on credit report and would be bad.

As afr as I know, the only thing that can stay on your record for more than 7 years is a Bankruptcy Chapter 7. If it is over 7, I would just dispute it with the reporting agency and cite its age. They will take it off. That way there is no comms with the debt collector.

No it's not being reported....if that makes any sense but the companies inquries are on the report but "not being reported" because they are "soft inquries", the debt collector is doing an inquiry on my report every month, for years, and the report says this is not reflected in my score and is not seen by lenders, but it bothers me. I guess what they are doing is what is usually done by companies who offer preapproved credit cards and such but this is a sleaze company pulling it all the time for whatever reason and they bought a alleged debt that is 17 years old and sent me an offer to pay them

Wow. They have to be the absolute bottom of the barrel. Just toss their stupid letter. I would still contact the reporting agencies and see what you can do to block them. Perhaps see if an attorney will give you free consult about it. YOu may be able to sue them for harrassment. While I am not usually one for frivolous suits, those POS deserve it.

In the last few weeks one of the most unscrupulous debt collectors just paid a huge fine for improper debt collection practices. Do a search on the company that offered you a payoff. This is an old game and they do need to know that you aren't playing. Contact the FTC.

I was a debt collector for about 20 years.. The FTC has little to NO real involvement in the debt collections..It's a nice "feel good" way to tell them they have some sort of recourse on what appears on their c/r ..

Debt collectors are for the most part are lying P.O.S yep.. it's true there are many larger collection agencies who train their employee's to skirt along the lines of legal/illegal when they speak to a debtor..

https://www.annualcreditreport.com allows you to pull a free c.r from one of the 3 every year.. I would tell people to pull one every 4 months on one of the agencies.. so you would pull a experian c.r on month 1-4 then trans union mo 5-8 then equifax m 9-12 then the free year starts over repeat every 4 mo's

you can file a dispute on line now.. and the c/r agencies are getting a bit more scrutiny over the last 10 years. it's still a mess and there is no way to clear it up..

** the word you want to use when speaking to a c.r agency is Slander of credit... ** if your c.r shows incorrect info.. and you have proof.. you can actually sue them..

other agencies involed in collection are

FTC federal trade comis...
FDCPA (guidelines_
FCRA (fair credit reporting act)
