try to go through an identity theft issue and see how helpful the c.r agencies are... heck see how helpful the gov is on it too.. dealt with many folks who would see our agency and the local gov appearing on their c/r's only to let them know they got a ticket for no seatbelt no lic driver and unreg vehicle.. they say they sold that car.. have to see proof.. ref them to DMV.. (you know how helpful these folks are so... ) they would get proof of selling car.. would have to set them up for a court date to appear and show proof of sale..

court dismisses case.. person then has to go to a different area of the courts to show court minutes.. then that office must then release any fta/ftp holds on the d.l then refer them back to the original collection agency who needs to see court mins they will call court to confirm court mins.. collection agency then will ONLY OF ASKED.. provide the person with a letter to take to creditors and c.r agencies to show the dispute.. (some collection agencies could "bullet" the credit report and it would show disputed/ then removed after 30 days) however this was only done if the person specifically asked for instant updating to the c/r and if that office could do so...

no apologies... it's your fault according to the attitude you get.. no matter if it is not.. it's still your fault.. your a deadbeat till proven innocent and then if your innocent it's only because someone else screwed up...

total time usually about 30-45 days for a court date.. (sometimes you were able to get 2 week appearance but it was rare..) you also could submit a letter to the commissioner and see if he responds ..

Off topic: I traded in my old car for a new car years ago. When I moved I went to DMV to make sure everything was set before I left state. Imagine my surprise that my old car is still in my name! After hounding the dealership for a while I got an answer that the car/truck was Kuwait-my ass it's in Kuwait. I was told to keep all of my paperwork for trading it in and if this ever becomes a problem then sue the pants off of them.

.....snip.......
Got a notice about low credit score - not true not as low as this paper says, then it says I can contact experian, and gives a phone number, I call, the number is disconnected, then it gives a web site, so I go on and i'm filling out all sorts of information, then it gets to a section where it asks the date of negative action, it won't let me enter in the date, tried a bunch of times and nope, won't let you put the date in and won't let me go on, so I go to their contact us and get another phone number, and guess what this one works and says sorry they are having technical difficulties and to try back later and hangs up.
How does a company that can't answer a phone or maintain a web site have the ability to have major impacts on peoples lives
WTF
1. Where did the notice come from, email or snail mail?
2. Did the URL on the website look like
http://www.phishingyourinformation.com/equifax.php?trolling

Website and phone failure seem very suspicious in a company of Experian's size. I would make certain you were not phished.

yeah this is what I was mentioning it's very typically of the DMV or the person selling or buying the car not to follow the procedures..

Just an FYI on tickets here in CA..

If you get a citation for something proof correctable (fix it ticket) say a broken/cracked windshield what you do after you get the ticket..
1. read the back...

2. if you get the window fixed within (xx days.. says on back usually 30) you take the ticket+ car to any peace officer have them sign it off.. then (some pd's require you to pay them the proof of correction fee.. some require you pay the courts.. some co's will do both) anyhow after the ticket is signed off you take that ticket to the court house *and if you paid the pd' get the receipt ) (says on back which one) and then pay the proof of correction there + show the signed off ticket to the courts..

3. save that ticket + any and all receipts for 20 years.. (local court house here switched OS's and got new pc's all the data from the old network did not succesfully convert to the new database.. they are still dealing with tickets over 20 years there..

or..... you can pay the ticket.. about $145.00 (and hope not to get another one)

or..
ignore it.. here is what this CO does

original ticket $145.00

fta letters sent out to you.. (not the courts/or pd's responsibility to get the right address either goes by the address on the ID typically...)
the FTA letter gives you 30 days to contact court to pay or appear..
continue to ignore

fta letter expires
trial in absentia letter sent..
and begins court rules against you since you did not appear..

civil assessment letter sent informs of ruling and notice that a fee of $300.00 has been added to your fine.(and and failure to pay hold has been placed on your license) . and a $10.00 dmv release fee as well

$145.00 + 310.00 = $455.00 you have xx days to pay this before it is sent to an outside collection agency.. you call the courts finally since you now have a ftp hold on your d.l and you want to set up payments.. not a problem they add another $35.00 time pay fee.. (this does not release the ftp hold until you pay the entire balance off)

total for a $10.00 fix it ticket.. $490.00

:(

gioua, you are the man. I have a debt that was duplicated by an unscrupulous debt collector. I paid the debt to the orginal creditor. The 1st agency was pissed but they took it off and sent me my letter. It's still riding with the 2nd debt collector. Interesting. Slander of Credit.

Thanks again

As Kinetic said, 1 time a year you're legally allowed to request a free copy of your credit report from each of the 3 credit reporting agencies. (Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003) Also anytime you apply for credit and are denied, if you ask, the company must furnish your credit report for free showing why they denied you. Also my brother-in-law successfully sued a collection agency for harrassment. Got 9k.

Edit: lol, didn't see gioua's post that said the same thing I did, just he was far more detailed and eloquent!

you mentioned the denied credit allows for a free c.r pull

glad your brother won.. My 1st exp with a debt collector was about the age of 20 I wrote a check it bounced and funds were not avail for awhile.. got a call from the local check recovery service who stated that they could have me arrested for writing bad checks.. I walked down to the office and paid there within a week.. worried I was going to be arrested when I paid..

having someone say this an accurate statement..(under the correct circumstances.. not one check for less then $20.00 ) however blankly using it as a scare tactic and a way to collect debt is illegal

it's like a collection agency saying they will go legal on your account.. (get a judgment against you.) correct statement if the end intent is actually to attempt legal recourse.. you cant say it on a account your company or the client refuses to go legal on

ohhh I could write a book about all the crap I dealt with over the past 20 .. most from the industry itself..

it's mismanaged and misguided the industry is not set up as a helpful group more of a hindrance to the client/debtor..
