Tucker Carlson and Fox News part ways
Tucker Carlson has parted ways with Fox News, the network said on Monday.

“We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” the network said in a statement.

Carlson’s last show was Friday, the network said.

Fox said it would air a new program called “Fox News Tonight” at 8 p.m. starting Monday evening as an interim show helmed by rotating Fox News personalities until a new host is named.

Carlson was Fox’s top-rated prime time host, netting an average of more than 3 million viewers per night, the most of any pundit on cable television.

Carlson’s departure from the network came less than a week after it agreed to pay $787.5 million to settle a defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems over coverage of former President Trump’s false claims of voter fraud and the company’s software.

Depositions taken by Dominion’s lawyers exposed a number of private communications from top hosts at the network, including Carlson.

In one widely publicized text exchange with fellow primetime hosts Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham, Carlson said he hated Trump “passionately” and called the former president’s claims of voter fraud “insane.”

Carlson’s show launched in 2016 and regularly featured controversial guests and segments on matters of race, immigration and other hot political topics of the day.

His hourlong opinion program, which featured an opening monologue and guest interviews, often acted as a proving ground for Republican office-seekers and conservative activists looking to broaden their reach with voters and donors.

Earlier this month, Trump sat for an extensive interview with Carlson, which the former president used to bash Democrats and the media.

Isn't dominion suing him? I wonder if fox's settlement covered him too. It is unlikely the smartmatic one will be covered by any settlement. So, if they sue Tuck, they can get all the shit from fox, they would have gotten with the Dominion suit, if they didn't settle.

They rewrote them, where Christians did not. But I think the Koranic versions map onto the originals.

So I conjecture that Muslims don’t have a strong suit.

you're missing the point...which is that a Muslim or Jew wouldn't be good candidate to bring up a case against displaying the ten commandments, since their religions use them as well...no implications about their loyalty, or anything else...

Hey, what are a few criminal indictments to the great white hope, he could be convicted and probably not lose much support. Even if he ran from a jail cell after being convicted of J6 and the secret docs, and in Georgia and in NY, he would still get tens of millions of votes. If he ran from his cell as a bull moose, he would destroy the republican's chances. Seriously, whatever happens to this guy, in prison and running as a bull moose from a cell, he would still get tens of millions of votes and millions more writing him in on the ballot. You cannot convince them, so divide and defeat them and then make sure they never rise from the grave they are digging for themselves.

that's true, and it's possible that anyone could have objection to it i guess...i suppose it was my bias that immediately jumped to non christians as the sole objectors.
I'm offended by it, because i don't believe schools should be used as religious indoctrination centers.

It would not matter, plenty of Christians swear allegiance to the constitution and it has been clear since Jefferson on this issue. One does not need to be an atheist to sue over this, your position would be that this belongs in your church and not displayed on public property or even a private school that gets federal or state funding. It would be religious discrimination to say that a Christian cannot sue over this and cannot have theological differences with fanatics. An episcopalian minister could sue them over it FFS, there is precedent too.

This could be the first election an Independent candidate has ever won, if a decent person with decent ideas runs...
a few have made fairly impressive showings, and had better competition...

As long as it's Trump, because if it was someone from the democratic side, they would be as bad as Trump to risk the country over this bullshit. The green candidate took enough democratic votes in 2016 for Trump to win and guess who showed up for dinner in Moscow with Vlad. So, Donald in his cell gets 30% of the vote while Joe splits his with a third-party centrist, or leftwing one. President Trump again, only this time from a state prison and civil fucking war, let me out or I'll destroy the country! Maybe the old guy can get shit done and if he had a majority in congress, he could get a lot more shit done and finish off the magats, or just kill the GOP as a terrorist organization and be done with it, because that is where they are headed when they lose, terrorism, is their next step and ya need laws to meet it head on.

All those green voters sure got what they wanted with Trump and the destruction of the EPA.

I hope you are right but I'm not confident about that. Justice Gorsuch gave a speech in 2022 in which he referred to the "so called" separation of church and state. He was signaling his agreement with the religious right that he did not believe in that idea consistent with the Federalist Society which is the organization picking right wing federal judges for right wing presidents. Separation of Church and State may not get the same kind of treatment as in the past with right wing religious conservatives now making up a 6-3 majority. This is the moment the Federalist Society has been working toward since 1982. I'm not optimistic about their intentions to keep religion out of public schools.

There are plenty of those assholes who can jump ship, many from close districts, but they would never survive their primaries, a bad word about Trump would doom them, even if he was in prison. As I said, I don't think the corporate masters of the universe would be happy about a default, and they would have trouble blaming the democrats for it. I don't even think foxnews would give them any cover, it would wipe out billions of Rupert's money! It's one of those inescapable facts, one that can't be spun and causing another great depression for fuck all would not go over well for generations. Let me put it this way, it would be like Putin invading Ukraine and the damage done to the Russian economy, only worse. Who knows Rupert brought you Brexit and if he figures there's a buck to be made destroying America, he will do it.

Drag storytime returns to Nelson, B.C., 2 months after cancellation over online threats
Event to be hosted at Nelson United Church on May 6

A drag storytime event is returning to Nelson, B.C., two months after it was cancelled amid reports of online threats and intimidation.

The Nelson Public Library is bringing back the event, now titled Unshushable, on May 6, this time at the Nelson United Church two blocks away.

The free-admission activity is being hosted in collaboration with community organizations, including Nelson Pride, the Nelson and District Arts Council, and Nelson Community Services, and priority access will be given to families and guardians accompanying children up to age eight.

Nicole Purvis, longtime Nelson resident and one of the organizers of the event, said the new title, Unshushable, invites participants to freely have fun and enjoy the storytime outside of a library setting.

Purvis, who identifies as an ally of the LGBTQ community, did not want to comment on whether she or fellow co-organizers have received similar threats over the upcoming event, although she said they are trying to be better prepared.

"We're really just focusing on the positive feedback we're hearing from community members," she told host Chris Walker on CBC's Daybreak South.

"We want the children in our community to be able to see themselves reflected in the people that we invite into our spaces."

The Nelson Public Library decided to cancel its first-ever drag storytime a few days before it was scheduled to run, citing online threats and intimidation to staff and the participating storytellers.

Nelson police say they are still investigating the threats as suspected hate-motivated incidents.

It's not the first time an event has been cancelled in B.C. over similar reasons: in June last year, organizers of a family-friendly drag show at a Victoria café cancelled the event, after the café owner said staff were inundated with homophobic and transphobic phone calls.

The cancellations have come amid a rise in attacks on the LGBTQ community. In the U.S., 120 drag events were targeted by threats in 2022, according to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the world's largest LGBTQ advocacy group.

The day the Nelson library cancelled its drag storytime event, more than 100 residents gathered in front of Nelson city hall to protest the threats, and to hold a similar storytelling activity outdoors.

Birkley Valks, one of two people set to perform that day, read a story to supporters.

It has been a few years since I watched the series, I can not remember which lecture applies so I search the therms and found this.

"What determines behavior?

That’s a question with a lot of partial answers. Upbringing. Genes. Brain chemistry. Peers. Sunday morning sermons. Inane values communicated in TV ads. The levels of various hormones in the fluid we marinated in as fetuses. The list goes on and on.

Many of these influences can be grouped under the nebulous category of “culture.” Examples of cultural influences on behavior are numerous. Austrians, say, are more likely to ski than Tahitians. But some differences are less obvious. For example, monotheistic religions tend to come from desert cultures, while rain forest cultures tend to be polytheistic. And societies of people who make a living as nomadic pastoralists — herders of cows, camels, or goats — are more likely than hunter-gatherers to evolve “cultures of honor” built around warrior classes, retributive violence and clan feuds.

Some of the best-studied cultural contrasts are between “collectivist” and “individualistic” cultures, most commonly between East Asian cultures and that of America. Collectivist cultures are about cooperation, interdependence, the good of the group outweighing the needs of any individual. These are societies in which people are uncomfortable standing out in the crowd, hewing to the principle that “the tall sheath of wheat is the first to be cut down.” Individualistic cultures, in contrast, emphasize competition, independence, individual achievement and “looking out for No. 1.”

What do these cultural differences look like on psychological tests? When asked to draw a “sociogram” — a diagram of their social network, with circles representing themselves and their friends, connected by lines — Americans tend to place the circle representing themselves in the middle of the page, and make it larger than the other circles. East Asians typically draw the self circle smaller than the others.

When given a scenario in which a friend has cheated them in a business deal, Americans are likely to want to punish the jerk. East Asians are likely not to want to see their friends penalized....
