15 of the 20 worst states for being dependent upon federal aid are red...8 of the ten least dependent states are blue...
Go ahead and divorce us, but you get no alimony...wonder how long it will take for their own citizens to lynch them and come back, begging forgiveness? I'm guessing the first missed benefits check, the first month the food stamp card doesn't get filled, the day the wic card quits working...things will get ugly. Excuse me, ugliER....

I wonder how brexit is going for the folks that wanted to leave.

My view is the red states should pack their shit and go stay with their mom for a bit to work out their feels.

I wouldn't know.

What I do know is Bernie's seat is very secure. What does Bernie's base in Vermont look like?

Vermont:
Population: 648,000
Median age: 43, fifth highest in the nation
% of population that is white: 92.6%, fourth highest in the nation.

So, his base in his home state is older and whiter compared to other states, by a wide margin. 88% say they lean toward Democrats, 55% say they are liberal and 27% say they are moderates, only 16% say they are conservative.

Ironically, when Bernie runs for prez, he polls best with younger people, especially those who self identify as very liberal. In 2020, Sanders had the highest support among Hispanic voters compared to other compared to all other candidates in the field at the beginning of the primary season, including Biden. He had the lowest support among Black voters but that difference was mostly driven by age. Younger Black voters favored Sanders.

Peering through the numbers, one group stands out as consistently supporting Bernie. Age isn't the dominant factor, instead, political ideology does. A person who says they are liberal is most likely to be a Sanders supporter.

Betting its the gloves, and a general belief in taking care of others.
Why is being a good person considered a politically ideological factor? Cant people like candidates for reasons outside of weird politics?

the good person thing is what is controversial imo. He was a populist, which is less about principle and more about getting votes.

As for the mittens, I think with what they shared that photo was the bigger deal: a sore-loser scowl.

“The senator is pretty disappointed in Judith’s chairmanship, specifically around her failure to build a strong grassroots movement in the state,” said a person familiar with Sanders’ thinking. “A lot of us feel sad about what could have been. It was a big opportunity for Bernie-aligned folks in the state to prove some of the folks in the establishment wrong. And that hasn’t happened.”

and that is her fault!?
If the weight of public sentiment is not there, then it just plain (bad word) is not. there.

He does seem to like to blame others for his own faults.
If he took a few steps towards making himself more likeable, perhaps she could have had more success.

I’m more concerned with the broader sentiment that it is the legislator’s fault that she didn’t build support. That’s not her job.

From another angle, if progressives won a presence in the state, then did not get any of their legislation passed, that is where I would look for reasons for stuff.

Then again, what do I know? I’ve believed that voters reward effectiveness. The reluctance of that man’s base to even acknowledge his disastrous behavior undercuts that belief. So (existential shrug)

Well, yes, I'm actually relieved he isn't gaining ground anywhere, it would just encourage him to lead another vote splitting doomed presidential run...
and that is what republicans are for.

This is entirely my personal take, but that iconic pic of him pouting at the competition’s inauguration tells me what I need to know about his character. Any progressive gains in our politics will need someone stronger than that at the helm.

Tbh, I am good with anyone pushing progressive ideas. He was old in 2016 but the only game in town, nobody has taken up the left mantel really.

I would point out, middle aged and old white people are who the dems need to court if they want to win. I don't think it's a weakness that his home state is made up of them. Democrats don't need to be more appealing to the west coast or NYC. They need to build in PA, OH, WI, MI, IA, GA, NC. Being branded a socialist is a weakness in those markets, but the ideas sold well. It's related to why I was on board with biden, scrappy Joe from Scranton appeals to the people you need to win with.

with as many jobs sitting vacant as there are right now, i'm not that upset about them cutting this program back to it's pre covid level.
Those that need it should get it, those that have been riding the train should gtf off of it and go back to work, and i know people who have been riding it shamelessly, hanging laundry off the caboose to dry.
