So I didn’t get to it tonight but tomorrow at lights on for sure…….the “X”s mark the leaves that need to go. Anything too large or is blocking a growing bud site below will be removed. Of course until I really get in there it’s hard to really see everything as I expect many more leaves to be removed. I’ll take a before and after pic. Still, bottom line is, a lot more leaves have to be removed right now. There’s just too much leafage still remaining.

I meant to take some pics before removing more leafage this morning but here we are a few hours later. At this point, it’s all about bud sites, remember that. The more you have, the more will be filling up the canopy in just a few short weeks. And again, this is supposed to be a strain that is not leafy. Day 7 in flowering today also.

I lowered the lights from 36 inches to 28 inches today.............which is day 17 in veg. The ppm is up to 375-400, pH always at 6.3. I'm watering every 3 days right now.
Hey SSHZ I respect your detailed grow diary, very inspiring. Not just talk but walk... great pics of great looking plants. Please be so kind as to clarify the above highlighted. Do you keep your entire coco grow at 6.3 from start to finish. No matter how much I read up online about PPM and PH, my plants always fall short of being 100% healthy.

i‘ll mention a few things along this line……..

1. pot plants need and use a lot of 2-3 nutrients, mainly being Nitrogen and Cal/Mag. People tend to stop the veg fertilizer right at the switch to flowering to a bloom nutrient thus causing a N deficiency later in flowering as the plant yellows. I stay with the veg for two week into flowering, then switch to a veg/ bloom 50/50 mix thru week 6. Then a switch to all bloom until the flush. Many deficiencies are also caused by a lack of cal/mag. I use reverse osmosis water, which strips the water of everything so I tend to need more- so I fluctuate between 5ml and 10ml per gallon for ALL water that goes into the plants.

2. use a high grade nutrient, so it does not build up in your medium. Botanicare Pure Blend Pro is 99% organic, not chemical, so it tends not to build up in the soil as much. I tend to fertilize on the lower end anyway, and after week 3-4 in flowering, I’ll fertilize, fertilize and then flush every 3rd watering. All the ferts on the market are generally fine, but watch your plants closely and if you see stuff going on, flush the medium well, let it dry, and reduce your ppm’s moving forward.

3. A lot of issues with yellowing and spotting could be undiagnosed bug and insect issues. Nothing yellows a plant quicker than mites or some of the other critters. As soon as you see something going on with leaf discoloration, investigate and figure it out. Before it gets worse.

Pics are always best if you need help…….

And regarding pH, different numbers work for different people. I’ve played around
a lot with 6.2 and 6.4, but settled in at 6.3 which works best for me. Very late in flowering I’ll often go to 6.4, just to reduce N uptake further. My number might not work for you, Premier, the make of Promix, recommends a much lower pH than I use. This just works best for my situation.

When you enlarge the pic, you can see loads of buds sites still hiding below some large leaves. I’ll be heading out shortly but when I get back, I’ll be back in the room again removing more leaves. You want every bud site exposed before the stretching begins, which should happen in the next couple of days.

So I just went thru the room again, and removed another large handfull of leaves.........I'm guessing as quick as the leaves are growing, it will be necessary every day or two to continue removing some as they get larger. After the stretch begins, things become clearer how well I did filling up the canopy. And, I'll bring those Super Skunks back into the main room maybe in a day or two.

The last two pics really helps me. I think I am ready. I have to get meters. I am going to try without ro water. My first indoor run went good following your method and label amounts.
I saw you post way back in 11 on MNS. I think you were asking about Ortega. Did you try any of his gear.

Wow, an old timer.......... you probably saw the Medicine Man grow? What a fuckin great strain that was back then, just no fem’s. I did try one of Ortega’s Northern Light strains, I guess comparatively it was an N.L. #2. I wasn’t impressed, if I remember correctly. I’ve found some grows diaries of mine back in 2010 recently, but none earlier. I thought I had some in 2008-2009, but I think they were on Overgrow who lost a lot during their purge a few years back.

I’m guessing by meters you are talking about light meters, or are you talking about pH AND PPM. I’ve mentioned this before, about 6 months ago a group of friends and I started to write down every strain they remember me doing, and we stopped writing when we hit 100. I know there is at least 20 more now. I started seriously growing (at one time I was growing around 800 plants a crop indoors in a warehouse) about 1988. So, 34 years times 4 strains a year, you figure out the math. Although Nevil’s N.L. 5x2 and Sweet Seeds Green Poison we’re both grown for a couple of years each.

Yes I been around for a while. I am going to get the blue lab pens or combo meter. I have a lot of life going on and it will be next year at this time before I get to do a grow.

At least 1 time during each grow I like to talk about the Gavita Pro LED’s I’m using…….I bought them 2 years and 3 months ago and never looked back. It took me a couple of grows to really feel comfortable with them, and the first 2 months I wasn’t crazy about them at all. But they are so far superior to HPS in so many ways.

Initially I was going to replace these after 3 years, sell them and buy something more current……..but now I’m thinking I’ll go to 4 years with them, and then decide whether to buy these again or try something new. These lights have been a remarkable addition to my room.

In my very first grow with these2 years ago, the Orange Gasm yielded 106 oz in my 4 X 8 sq. ft. total grow area. Last crop of Bubblehead yielded 104 oz., so they really haven’t weakened or wavered in their ability. The quality overall is top notch- and I tend to bang my head into it 5 or 6 times a day. It looks like it’s just came out of its box new.

i won‘t hesitate to buy these again and I may, but I’ll do my research before deciding. I don’t think- actually, I know, I don’t need more light in this space. Co2 might help, but why? How much more weight will it actually add passed where I’m at now? Maybe 10-15%?

These cost me $2800 delivered when I bought them- they’ve paid for themselves many, many times over already. You can probably find them for $2400 delivered now, and maybe cheaper on sale.

I'm shocked you are able to grow without meters............. I had nothing but problems and issues when I tried 30 years ago. The BlueLab Combo meter is excellent.

I had some issues my first indoor grow. I am not expecting to duplicate your knowledge and experience. I can just add additional time to vegetation. Remember back in the beginning there were indoors vs outdoors argument. I had to be outdoors gorilla because I couldn't take the risk. When the add appeared in high times from the first two seed banks we group ordered every year. That was until around 94 or 95 when they stopped delivering to the US. In 96 after a few years of not being able to grow I organized a trip to Amsterdam . I sent our seeds back myself. I primarily grew Skunk number 1 or afghan 1. I saw my first vaporizer in the back room of Sensi seeds. It was a 5 gallon water bottle like in old water coolers with a bowl. They used a heat gun to heat it. I was smoking super skunk while I was there. I asked where was Neville was and they gave me funny looks. I got my name from the Rinjksmuseum where I spent two days touring while buzzed. I spent evenings in the red light and sensi seeds back room. And no I didn't purchase any prostitutes.

Liar.............
One more story. Because I am really high. About the second or third day in Dam I am walking the red light in the evening. Prior to this time I was just looking at the girls. I would go early when the girls are just coming to work. Then I see this blond who was a genuine 10. Being shy I had to ask. How much. She raises her hand and puts up 5 fingers. I assumed she meant 500 guilders. That was about 250 USD. After thinking about it I wonder if she meant 50 guilders or 25 Usd. I guess I will never know.
