ethically hide money

morally is it right? im on SSI id love to save over 2,000 and just say to the government i dont have money when they come asking like they do every year. im allowed to have 2,000 in resources. but my idea is to save the money stash it and use it for a house and to make sure when i get everything in place it will be easy ot just buy a new water heater and fridge windows fire place ect. so i can just right off the first year have the house ready for complet living and no waiting around. so morally is it right to hide it if your just going to use it to make life better faster. keep this in mind. 18,000 dollars in back pay is what i got at the start and what i have to pay back when i get off SSI plus what ever a month they have given me so far. so im 18,000+ in debt but have to wait to pay it back

What's the point of this exercise? The state gets dibs on your house when you die, that's the trade off of government assistance.

steal as much as you can from the government...they are trying to do the same to you.

If what you are trying to do is get off assistance then do it. That is what we all want from whomever is on assistance is to getting off of it.

technically it's cheating, some might even say stealing, but i know a few people on ssi and some of the "rules" are unrealistic and arbitrary. shit like what year car you're required to buy should you choose to drive, and the way you're only allowed to save a certain amount of money. the system is designed to keep people needy. they want you driving a piece of shit car that breaks down all the time instead of saving up to buy a car that would be the better long-term investment. i personally see nothing wrong with you saving the money to spend later to better your situation. they decided how much you get based on their OWN criteria. you shouldn't be punished for trying to make sensible financial decisions and saving up. it's funny how lack of financial restraint is punished when it comes to bank loans but encouraged for people on ssi. hell of a system we run.

mmmm, im torn. in a way you are cheating the system. do you think they would realize when you bought a house what you did? could they do anything about it?(like take it for example). ultimately i'd say...it's how you feel that really matters. life did kind of fuck you over though. so you'd just be making up for that as long as you dont get greedy.

the simple fact that you are ethically and morally torn about this decision is a pretty good judge of your character and what type of person you are. live on the dark side for a minute buddy! take the loot.

kind of reminds me of a situation i was in a while back. i had bought about 20-25 40w bulbs from the local store over about 6 months. it was addicting each paycheck to go pick up more to add to my grow, plus ive made much worse investments than them, although i was overpaying compared to if i got them online by like $3 a bulb.. anyway, i was using lightbar fixtures using y splitters and outlet to socket adapters for the main overhead lighting. the way the box was shaped and the way the plant was trained as it outgrew the area made it so i'd have to remove them with every watering. well this one day i was waiting for a phone call but figured i'd go ahead and get watering them done while i waited. i always put the 2 fixtures with 8 40w bulbs in each on top of the grow box so i didnt have to unplug everything each time i watered and could quickly put them back in when watering was over. well, when the phone rang and i went to grab it i didnt make sure the door to the grow area clicked when it closed so my cat who always tried to go in there went and pushed on the door it opened for him and he went inside. all of the sudden i heard a loud crash and......found both of them on the ground, some totally broke but some i had hope for at first they might of survived it, in the end only 1 bulb survived out of 16 though. he tried to jump up and get on top of the grow box but didnt quite make it or something and knocked them down. i cant even describe how painful it is. lol. however i came up with something when looking over some of the newly bought bulbs that were less severely damaged that were just cracked or something inside broke.....why not contact the company and say that the 8 bulbs i had purchased a few days earlier were like that when i went to use them? it's not like boxes dont ever accidently get dropped or knocked off the shelf at some point or something like that and i had all the packaging and receipts and serial numbers so i figured what the hell.....they were very nice about it and were more than happy to send me certificates to get 10 new bulbs. 8 replacements and 2 for the trouble. i mean sure i lied a bit but eh, i didnt feel bad about it. it wasnt that outlandish and i was just undoing some bad luck i had and i had just bought 8 of those bulbs new a few days before it happened. i was just starting to get financially good and it would of hurt even worse if i would of had to buy all new bulbs.

speak for yourself...someone truly disabled is screwed by ssi all the way around ...the above is an example of how they make so one can not ever get off of it

we do want as a culture to see people on disability get off it for the most part, i doubt many people would say its better for someone who is disabled to never get off of assistance compared to them getting help until they can get on their feet and then supporting themselves either partially or fully. thats what winter women was saying. not that the system is perfect. Ive never been on ssi (the county wanted me to get it but it would of limited the hours i could work and that was my main goal getting a 40 hr a week job to try to get on my feet so i said no) but i owe county like 75k, alot f it for help that i didnt want and had no choice in(mental health commitments are fucking expensive, $1200 a day just for being there, medicine and all that went on the bill on top of that, but at least they had a smoking room, only hospital ive ever been with one, plus free tobacco and papers to roll your own cigarettes, get to smoke 1 an hour, then again im sure we were somehow charged for the cigarettes, lol) and other help they provided while i got on my feet. i dont see how its really that unfair to check your assets to see if you are capable of supporting yourself while continuing to get on your feet. it actually kind of goes back to what winter woman said, these programs really are not their for supporting people their whole lives no matter what but to help them until they can start to make it on their own. it will take me decades to pay back what i owe but so be it. ive gotten over being angry about the involuntary medical care i got. in the end they did help me get my life on track and me being able to support myself again. i could of stayed on it longer wif i wanted to, they were paying my rent and giving me food stamps and paying for my transportation to and from work, all that, but i didnt feel like i needed it and could support myself, which was correct..... i made it. i stopped taking the meds they were making me take for a while and seeing their doctor every month and resumed more natural medicine and have made alot of progress. i dont see whats wrong with ssi wanting to know how well he is able to support himself and how much, if any, assistance he needs. it's not like a bunch of people in the country and a certain political party are not going after ssi and so called welfare programs and these programs whenever possible and insisting the programs are reigned in more and less benefits given out. if they have given silas a lowball assets allowed number you know who to blame......I know silas and know he's a really good guy and that while slightly dishonest its not really out of greed at all so thats why i think its not that bad morally and he can justify it.
