dual spectrum lights

right, well im going to have a vegetive room and a flowering room but am a bit confused which lights to purcahse. would it be better to have a normal HPS in the flowering room and a MH in the vegative room or should i go for a dual spectrum hps in both of them.

Dedicated bulbs would be best. Dual spectrum are mostly for people that only use one grow chamber and don't want to buy separate bulbs.

HPS is the best light overall if you had to choose bettween the two. Personally I have found HPS to be better for both veg and flower but everyone else keeps telling me MH is better for veg. I have just never gotten the same results as I get with HPS. I will try the MH again because im still curious as so many people reccomend them for veg but if I dont see any better results again I'll probably write off the MH and stick with the HPS.

A HPS ballast will also run MH conversion bulbs so you only need the one ballast and just switch out the globes.

go for the h.p.s(multi spectrum) for all stages.
you will get better results.

no just go buy a hps ballast and you can run a mh bulb in a hps ballast all day long. you DO NOT NEED A CONVERTION BULB>

Tell me you're kidding. A MH conversion bulb is needed for a HPS ballast(assuming you want to use MH). Only a switchable ballast can do what you suggest.

I was thinking about getting a HPS light... So, what is the real information to the conversion statements? Can you really run a MH light on an HPS ballast without a conversion? Wouldn't that short it out or something?

Wow... That is a clutch move! I had no idea! I wouldn't want to be the one who tried it out and busted a bulb just to see if it worked or not... Maybe it's because I'm poor. Haha... But seriously.

no you don't. i guys are crazy. i run my mh bulb in my hps ballast all the time.... if you have not done or do this then you need not to be telling others it won't work or you need to run a conversion bulb. 100% guarantee this is safe and works.

Maybe with your ballast, but I don't think you can say that it will work with 100% of HPS ballasts out there.

Is that a magnetic or electronic ballast? Any decent digi will switch out the ignitor depending on which bulb is being used.
I'm not coming down one side of the fence or the other, I've never tried this and have no reason to go mixing and matching ballasts and bulbs, but if it works and is 100% safe as you guarantee, why are conversion bulbs manufactured?

These are the MH bulbs I have been using with my HPS ballasts. The pic shows the box whch states it is a conversion bulb for HPS ballasts. Ive only used these type of MH bulbs in a few different brands and if the box dont say its safe for HPS ballasts then I wouldnt use it on one.
