Drying process

Buy a hygrometer and drop a bud and the meter into a jar. If the bud is still too moist you'll see the humidity increase quickly. As the bud dries, you'll need to leave the meter in the jar longer, as the meter will change more slowly, probably for several hours, maybe over night, before it settles.

I bought a four pack from Amazon for less than $14

There are several great posts on Drying and Curing here at Roll It threads

And this essay over on GrowWeedEasy:

Should I start with the smallest of buds as a test? I've got the hygrometers coming tomorrow. My only worry is jarring them so early to test the humidity and ruining some buds.

Thanks

How do you know when its 10-15% moisture? Keep hanging till the aroma comes back?View attachment 4416344
You know its 10-15% moisture content because it smokes and burns well in a pipe or bong - ignore that idiot who went on (again) about air humidity he knows zero of the art of drying bud.

How hard do you want to make it?

Taste and aroma take slighgly longer than drying and hence why we hang till its not only dry but taste great and smokes smooth. :-)

Dont follow fools who use hygrometers, where do you think all the threads of moldy or bad tasting weed come from.

:-)

The first plant that I hung was on 10/31. It now feels very very dry. To the point of kind of crumbling when touched. Any suggestions?

How does it smoke? I'm a paper bag guy myself. When it seems nice and dry while hanging I will put it in a paper bag for a few days, maybe a week. I don't like to trim when the buds are too crumbly. When it's dry and crumbly it still doesn't smoke right because it isn't quite dry yet. If it gets too dry and smokes great I may skip the paper bag and jar it.

Leaf and such may crumble but bud dosent, either it was force dried or not well enough grown.

There is always an answer but it still needs time to hang :-)

Well grown dried bud grinds easy - it will feel dry to the touch do not think bud needs to be moist to the touch :-)

Definitely not force dried. Room is 60 degrees with one small fan blowing against the wall to keep air circulating. Was grown in promix hp soil. Some fertilizers used. Timber grow lights. Never used CO2 though. Trimmed sugar leaves as close to the bud as possible. Almost 10 weeks of flowering.

Two weeks and more than 50 posts and still the OP is confused? It's only been five days since he hung his first plant yet he's asking if he should jar it because it smoked good?

If good smoke, jar it?
@Kingrow1 is saying you NEVER jar it. He's saying you hang it to dry for 14 days, do nothing else, and then you are done. There is nothing more to do but share the good times. He's saying you don't need to measure anything or do anything other than wait. If @Kingrow1 is using a jar it is for storage, not for drying.

You know its 10-15% moisture content because it smokes and burns well in a pipe or bong...
This is the art of drying that @Kingrow1 is describing. You will know you've done a good job because you'll just know.

For me, being an idiot and all -- I look for a system or method, that is repeatable, to do the same thing the same way every time. Dry until this percent; cure until this number. Start here and finish there. @Kingrow1 is saying that every dry is different. One dry may need 13 days and one dry may need 15 days. Dry until it smokes and burns well. Since I'm putting words in @Kingrow1 's mouth, let me do a few more, @Kingrow1 is saying the dry and the cure are all one in the same.

I think you should experiment with a bit of bud from every harvest. Don't take @Kingrow1 word for it either, try it for yourself and see what happens, what works, what doesn't. Take a big bud and drop it in a jar with your hygrometer. Why not? You bought one, use it and see what happens. If the bud's moisture content is higher than 10-15% the hygrometer will start climbing quickly and within 5-10 minutes you'll know the bud is still too moist to smoke and burn well. If the number doesn't climb rapidly you could burn a bowl checking for a good smoke.

The bottom line, after only five days of drying, it is hard to believe your bud smells smokes and burns well. Still, I'm just an idiot.

Well written except for the last jar humidity Part :-)

Guys, first time real grow. My parents house and college closet 20+ yrs ago is what I've done. I appreciate all of your responses. My apologies if I wore you all out with questions. Anyways, I'm following kingrow's suggestions. Haven't jarred / hydrometer. I will let all know how product tunes out.
Thanks again
