Dry Trim or Wet Trim?

What's the best way to trim during harvest? Wet Trim? Dry Trim? This will be my first harvest and looking forward to it. Also is it best to dry on a rack or hanging?

Chop branches and remove fattest fan leaves (can leave fan leaves on if room is on the dry side).

Hang buds so they don’t touch each other in a dark room close to 60f / 60% humidity. You want air circulation but no direct air movement. Basically a tent with low extraction is perfect, no fans. Takes about 14 days but preserves all the terps!

I use to trim wet but now I’ve found it’s easier to trim dry and get a nice final product. Trimming wet can be done but I found you had to touch up the buds once dry anyways so best to do it dry.

Also have a tray to catch all the sugar leaves/trichomes when you trim dry.

Enjoy your rewards :D

Wet trim, bucked and onto drying rack , till outside gets crispy but inside is still damp.

Then into a paper bag for composting.

Rotating clump and pulling it apart to let some air in until it’s reached grove bag level or jars if that’s your preference to cure.

enjoy and good luck.

Wet trim will help speed up the drying process as it allows for better air movement and saves space on your drying rack, also when wet the trics stay on the buds. Your a lot less lickly to damage flower struture when the buds are wet and the mass is more stuck together(bag appeal). Dry trim is a lot easier and i find my bowl trimmer dose not work well wet.if you want to collect more kief(drysift hash) a lot more will fall off in your try when done dry. I wont say that one is better then the other its a matter of preferance and end goals. If you want stronger flowers to smoke then wet trim, if you want to collect pollen for edibles or to smoke less mass then dry trim. If you grow for profit custies wont notice the difference either way.

So what do y'all think about maybe Wet Trimming but leaving bud on a branch for hanging instead of using a rack?

Congrats on your first harvest! I did a wet trim for mine, and it made removing the leaves a lot easier while the buds were fresh. When it comes to drying, I found hanging them works best because it gives them good airflow and helps avoid mold. Just make sure you have a dark, well-ventilated space to do it.

Thanks just the info I needed. I have a grow tent with a ventilation exhaust system so I guess I will dry them in there.

So when you Wet Trimmed did you leave a branch on the buds to hang them by or how did you do it?

I've always wet trimmed and hung branches from twine , or on coat hangers that hang on twine . The amount I was drying needed a whole room or an attic , and it was round after round during harvest . The 60/60 thing is perfect yet sometimes hard to attain . We often needed a dehumidifier .

Most branches have sub branches that make for a good "hook" . Smaller branches you can usually leave a small hook for hanging . Wet trimming I never used gloves and got lots of tasty hash balls . You might need to do a final manicure when dry but that's up to the individual .

As said above if you dry first and trim later you lose a good number of trichs . Doing small amounts over a sheet of newspaper will catch them but they're kinda a pita to separate .

It's really personal taste but in my situation time was money . If you wet trim do it right after you chop , if you wait until they wilt it's a real pain in the ass . Don't chop more than you can trim the same day .

Depends on your environment in a drier warmer one U wanna slow it drying all u can so hanging whole plants pretty much however if it's cooler and drying slower you can take a bit off before you hang em if you want

I turned off lights and water 9 days ago, exhaust fan still running. Pots are feather light, buds are like steel ball bearings. Other than removing withered fans these won't need much trimming at all. I have always wet trimmed but this is the way. Another plus is the plants dry out the medium for me, which I reuse. Trimming wet, I've had to leave those root balls around to dry out on their own.20241018_074029.jpg20241018_074045.jpg

This + I trim wet. That is my personal preference as I work a bunch of hours along with daily chores. Hanging full branches is definitely better if your drying setup allows. I’ve been using them hanging baskets for a couple years now and don’t mind them as my drying area doesn’t fit my harvested branches..

That's basically what I do wet or dry trimming.

I prefer to dry trim it's easier and i get a more thorough job

I don't use scissors I prefer a pointy tool like a skewer to pick/break leafs out, it takes a fraction of the time compared to aiming/operating scissors 1000s of times an hour.

If you picture writing full stops or periods (.) you should get the picture.
