Doing Things Right, Getting Low Yields?

So Im starting my third grow, and after reading other grow journals, I must say im a little dissappointed in my yields? My first was about 1/2 ounce per plant, and my next was about an ounce per plant. Those 2 grows I only vegged for about 5-6 weeks. I let my third (and current) batch go a little longer in the veg room and a week before I switched them they ranged in height from 12"-24". Im hoping this can give me a better yield, because all of the other factors seem to be working well. Am I not letting these little buggers veg long enough? How do I get that "half gram per watt" people talk about? :-( Im jealous people are getting double what im getting for the same amount of work :wall: Ill have a grow journal on ym current grow as well so keep an eye out for that

what kind of lighting are you using?

what brand of nutes?

How is your ventilation set up.

If i had to guess your problem, i would say your equipment isnt up to par.

Not enough info on your set-up, friend. I tend to concur with Dirtfree, but without a clue about what equipment/nutes/gear you are running there is no way to give an educated answer.

One thing I will say though, your veg time is NOT too short. I only veg for 4 weeks normally and average just over 120g dried/cured per plant (Dinafem Power Kush). I know of growers who absolutely swear by only vegging for a week!! (Mountain Man comes to mind, among others). I've never personally tried switching to 12/12 after only 1 or 2 weeks of vegging, but I'm going to on my next cycle just to see how it affects my yield.

If you are positive you have all the necessary equipment, then your genetics are likely the issue. The grower can only do so much with genetics that only want to go so far. Grab a new strain and see what happens. Upgrade size of root pots, root zone is a direct correlation to plant size and one that can expands through a 20 gallon root zone will be better off then the same plant in a 5 gallon.

Let me take a wild guess. Your growing some sort of bag seed. I started growing bag seed and off of plants 4 foot tall I wouldn't get a QP and that was the best of the plants. I grew and F2 seed from a batch of white skunk a friend grew off of an F1 seed. and with a 2 foot plant i got nearly a QP. If your setup is right and your taking care of your plants right. the only thing left to check is the genetics.

like they said b4 more info on your setup would be helpful

Other than being on your 3rd grow of cannabis (which is immaterial), what other plants have you grown before?

Thanks for all the good advice up here. I am vegging under like 6 300 watt CFL's I bought from the home depot for $15 a piece when I first started. I actually try to use as little nutes as possible (I have tried blasting my shit with nutes and wasnt really impressed so I took the less is more approach). During veg I water with putified water adjusted to about 6.0 ph, with the suggested amt Botanicare Grow, and some Botanicare liquid karma. When I switch to Flower, I move them to another room with a 600 watt HPS. This room is about 4x4x8 and I have good ventilation (I think) it stays about 75 in there with the lights on. I have an old school a/c where you add water in top to keep cold wind blowing and add some moisture in the air. C02 levels should be adequate as the fan is constantly pulling freshair through the door I leave cracked about 2 in. As far as nutes during flower Ill make a schedule which uses a combination Botanicare Bloom, hydroplex, snowstorm, and gravity (last 3 waterings before flush. To be honest I dont know the ppm, but It should be that high becasue I never use all of thgese nutes at once. Its a rotation of all of these with at maximum 3 used per watering. The Ph is adjusted down around 6 but I dont have an exact read on that either, I just know its around 6. I hope this is enough info to get some answers this time since i didnt give enough before. Any advice is much appreciated

Man, If you are referring to the Mountain Man from around the bay area I want to know this guy. I was on vacation in San Fran last year and bought some "Super Silver Mountain man haze" my first day up there....I refused to medicate with anything not grown by the mountain man after that first day in san fran. The product quality looked and smelled great, but the high was nothing short of amazing. Very cerebral, natural, and almost spiritual....Tell me were talking the same mountain man here....

ok, first ditch those CFL's. Your post reads that you have 1800 watts of CFL's? (6 x 300) Its sort of immaterial as you have a 600 watt flowering light.

First, buy a proper PH meter. What kind of soil are you using? And what size pots? I can almost bet that your pots are too small or you are using sub-par soil. This is in addition to the weak ass genetics that your running. Spend the money and get some QUALITY genetics, you will do Waaaaay better. My first run I got a little over 5.3 ounces/ plant with 3 600's. That was with a 4-5 week veg in an ebb/flow SCROG.

What you feed and how much is very important. Botanicare are solid nutes for sure (its what I use actually). Sounds like you have LOTS of P and K boosters in there..you don't need to go hog fucking wild with them. you have hydroples, snowstorm, and gravity. I have read that you have to be REALLY careful with the gravity.

You have any pics? Contrary to popular belief, its not rock science but it does take some control to get very high quality buds. If you can go from clone to harvest without burning the hell out of your plants or starving them, your ahead of about 50% of the growers out there. If you can't tell your over feeding until the tips are burnt, you need to pay more attention.

Anywho, sans all the information I would suggest...

A QUALITY PH meter (don't be a cheap fuck)
Take detailed notes (daily)
Never change more than one thing at a time when addressing a problem
Get some fresh genetics

I am actually using CannaCoco in 5 and 7 gallon pots. As far as genetics go, my first grow was seeds ordered online (heavyweight seeds KO KUsh, Budziller, Greenhouse seed co cheese, and some DNA sharks breath). Seeds felt like too much work, so for my next try I picked up some clones from LA Wonderland Caregivers who are supposed to specialize in clones. Lots of great reviews, and im not complaining with the quality at all. Im sure it is rare to actually crank out quality product but I am a good judge and this was good quality product...just not very much. As far as my vegging CFL's I think the spectrum might be wrong, like I said I picked them up for $15 a piece from Home Depot, not a hydrostore. The gravity though, is some pretty serious shit, gotta be EXTRA careful but I would recommend it.

Here is a picture of my flower room, about 2 weeks ago and also a picture of my last grow about 1 week before I cut them.

Do you leave this door cracked during the dark part of the 12/12?

Wet
Wet, I do but I have been wondering if I should. I figured I should to let in c02, but then on the other hand I feel like I should somehow close it becasue a tiny bit of light gets in when the kitchen light is on. My room is in the closet of a kitchen.

I figured I would just leave it open and do my best to keep that kitchen light off the babies. Now even when it is on its not illuminating my room at all, it is a thin stip of light that hits the front 2-3 plants, doesnt even look like enough light for the plant to realize the lgiht is on. Granted this strip of light slightly illumnates the room so it is not 100% pitch-black, it is pretty damn dark in there.

Any better suggestions on what to do with the door crack situation? maybe my own false door with a hole cut somewhere?

I purposely left the side of my light it is sucking from UNDUCTED so that the air suctioned by that into the room would fill the room before being sucked through the light and out the roof, giving co2 a chance to reach the new plants, continually sucking in new air through the crack in the door, then through the light then out the cieling. You can see what I mean from my picture. What are you guys thinking about that?

I think that you should read my plant primer for newbs thread. Then you would realize that plants use oxygen at night, not co2. So I guess that answers your night time door closure question. That could be part if the problem for sure, it only takes a little light. Plants that are denser also yield better. This is where quality veg lights and close day/night temps really help out.
My last suggestion is that you utilize some mychorizal innoculant and enzymes to maximize root growth.
It is often ignored, but your success in flower is really just a function of healthy roots and dense vegetation. To that end don't do 24/7 lights during veg

You need 100% pitch black. Pretty damn dark doesn't cut it. Fix that and your ventilation first.

another thing if thats a 600 watt hps why do you have it like 3 feet away its a air cooled hood it looks like i have my 1000's with my air cooled hoods at least 10 inches way

PS. edit. i see the stakes cut those stakes in half and bring that light down they arent getting nearly enough lumens lol

to give you a referance veged about 2 months with 2 600 watt mh's about 6 weeks into flower and no co2 supplemented just a 1000 watt hps on a light mover

4 plants in there
