Does anybody tie down there cannabis plants?

Im trying to keep my plants short and bushy for higher yield i have been looking into the best ways of doing this i was just going to top them and clean up the bottoms but i have seen people tieng there plants down does anybody do this and does it work any better? Also if you could give me abit of advice on how to do it if you tie it down just the one side of the plant will catch the light so do you have to keep moving it around?

The arms/branches will adjust themselves and all begin to reach up towards the light. So basically by tying down the central trunk you create more surface area for all the branches. That way they can all flower into thick colas.

Hi, To maximise yields on a small bushy plant, I would recommend topping your plant at the earliest opportunity. I would then perform some low stress training to the plant such as weight some of the branches down to expose more of your nodes to direct light. I suggest using synthetic cord with a fishing weight on it to hold the branches open. If it is possible in your grow room, try and rotate the plants every few days to expose all areas of the plants to light.

If you fancy it, perhaps a little bit of lolli-popping too. There are several good videos on youtube with tutorials for both topping and lolli-popping.

Ive been tying plants down since the 90s. Just do it! if you want to even things out top them just above the 3rd node then tie down the branches that come out from the third node. Keep everything even frome there by super cropping

I use to tie 'em down back in the 70's and 80's. I use to top 'em to get more sites. Now I tie 'em up and put in more clones to get more colas.

Thanks for the replys when should i start to tie them down if they are cuttings? Around the second week? Im going to veg for 4 weeks

Just to mention, seed plants are hollow and will break very easy. On the other hand clones are (usually) not hollow and can take more before they will break. Bend them a little each day until you get them where you want them.

I do FIM'ing and topping on most of my plants, I use the UB style....

I've FIM'ed my clones in Red Cups at 17 days, I've waited until the plants grows 8-9 nodes, then I trim them back to 4-5 nodes...
These 4-5 branches I then bend and train straight out to edge of pot...
I tie to plastic pot at five different points and the plant grows up from there ...
So it grows 5 colas...
I've tried it with 2-3-4-5-6-7 different nodes, which mean branches...
I need to keep them short for room space height limit...
The longer the veg time the more yield, so keeping them short, ups my yield....

When the plant has reached between 4-6 nodes I will bend them almost in half and tape one of the top fan leaves to the side of the solo or pot. I forgot where I read that, but it made it almost dummy proof and was quicker than what I was doing before.

Grow420Guy uses tape to attach the leaves to the pots, but I think its a bad idea because leaves actually have pores on their surface, where they breathe in oxygen. I know your only taping a corner of a leaf, but tie it down with string instead if you can.

i top my plants twice and then tie down the dominant branches throughout veg. then when i have a uniform canopy i'll let them all go about a week before flower. works for me.

Is it the dominant branches at the top that you tie down? Do you have any photos of when you have tied them down? How long inbetween do you top them after the first time you done them? Thanks

i'd have to dig around to see if i have any old pics of me tying them down. i normally don't take too many pics when they are that young.

basically i will tie down the top 2-3 branches and give it a week to 10 days. then i'll tie down the next 2-3 branches that are now the tops. i do this throughout veg until right before flower. i will top them once early on in veg. when i have 4 node sites. then i'll wait 2-3 weeks and top them again. usually works out to about 2 weeks before i put them in flower. most people i think wait about 2 weeks on average between toppings.

Plant looks hungry from here... big pants=big yields not only tall but wide

Becaus if you read what over people have said they said top the once whilst they are only a thew nodes.
And there still going to be in veg for around another 3-4 weeks

it's hard to tell from your pics if you cut it in the right spot. the last pic looks right though. you cut the newest forming node.

weight depends on a lot of different factors including experience, strain, plant size, environment, etc...if you aren't sure where to top a plant then i'm guessing you are pretty new to the game. don't get caught up in the numbers. try and grow healthy plants all the way through harvest. the weight will come. i've been doing this a long time so i always try and get 1 gram per watt of light used. those plants in the pic were 5-6 ounce plants for some and 6-7 for others.
