Do I need a PPM ?

I just set everything up for a hydro.
...Except !!!! I forgot to get a PH meter and a PPM .

My question is , do I need(or is it extremely useful) ??

As well , where would I be able to get them ?
I checked Canadian tire but they don't seem to have any (on the website) . But I will probably go in personally if no one responds.

Note : Seeds are germinating , so no time for ordering =\.

Any and All help is very much appreciated !!!!

P.s Is there any way to do it by "eye" ?
I read to just do half of the suggested amount . (7 drops per L. )
My 38 L tub , so 7 x 38 = 266 divided by 2 = 133

Do I need to wait for it all to like sink in or anything ???

Yes you need them both!PH is very important, and you for sure need to know what your PPM is are you will never get the best results, and will be lucky not to burn them!!! I would do alot of reading on PH so you have a better understanding of how it works.Without a ppm meter you dont have a clue whether your plants are using water are the nutes in DWC,and wont be able to push it to the limit and get the best yield without one. Online at any hydro store is where i got mine both were about 150usd.I have the Oakton brand with replaceable probe!

I have the convience to have a friend who owns a water store (like bottled water) .

They have ph and ppm meters .

I will get them both .
but would I be able to use the big jugs of water ? like would they have a low/nuetral ph ?

ORRR could I bring a sample of the water and have them tested ???

Basically the seeds WILL be done germ. in about a day or two ... So I was looking at alterinatives as I wait for shipping ...

As always any and ALL suggestions are welcome and appreciated !!

You don't know what readings are inside a jug of water until you test it. If you're not ready to buy the proper testing equipment now, the least you can do is get your tap water tested after having let it sit for a day so the chlorine evaporates. You're going to need your own meters as soon as you put the seedlings in your hydro system. Have you decided what kind of nutrients you're going to use?

Actually you won't need nutrients until week 3-4, and don't use the full dosage on the bottle. Use 1/4 strength and slowly work your way up to full strength based on how your plants respond. Don't give any nutes to seedlings either.

Thanks a lot.
You guys are so helpful to new people. =D
Just bear in mind that a perfect nutrient/Water/PH ratio will soon change, as your plants feed from the solution.

This is where PPM/PH testers become essential. You can test your reservoir. and your testers will tell you exactly what you need to add to your reservoir in order to maintain the desired strength/PH of your feed.
