DIY with Quantum Boards

Those look like nice, hard flowers.
Edit: qb96 + cmh still going in there?
Thanks. My cmh bulb went bad a couple of weeks ago, so I put a quantum board in it's place for the past couple of weeks. I do have a replacement lamp now, but it's getting warm and the cmh is just for the winter.

This is an Quantum Board thread, not Strip LEDs. There are many threads on building with strips available on this forum, you'll get your best answers from them.

I haven't built a QB light in about 4 years... Could anyone give me a quick rundown on whats the best strips to get these days? Looking to power a 4x8 room.. maybe build a couple 4x4 480w strips.
Last light I built was on LEDgardner with the tutorials and I used I think some samsung f series? Thanks!

Well my fellow growers, I've got my paperwork in. I'll be HLG's new forum rep. I'm just waiting on RIU to tell me what they need from me, and to get my channels to customer service and marketing set up. Hopefully i'll be ready by the end of the week, and hopefully sooner! I look forward to being a conduit to HLG and to being of service to all of you!

Cool beans :eyesmoke:

First question.........................How can I set up my HLG 550 Bspecs to perform in flower? I have three of them and would like them to make them into full spectrum lights. What could I add to the light to do this?

thanks

You need to add some red if you want to use a Bspec in flower. Maybe you could add some 2700k strips to the center of your heatsink.
Bspec was really targeted at veg, its purpose is to promote foliage growth and reduce stretch.

I sometimes run into problems with my flower tent not finished yet and have to start flower with the Bspecs. A bar or strip attached to the heatsink would be great. Something with its' own power supply that I could turn on when I flip.

Exactly what I was thinking!

I have purchased 4x qb 648 boards from HLG along with two Slate 2 triple heat sinks but am only putting two of the boards on to each heatsink with one board on each end.
I have not bought purchased drivers yet but am wanting to run two drivers, one on each heat sink with each driver powering 2 of the qb648’s.
HLG website says the recommend Meanwell HLG-240H-C1750 or HLG-320H-C2100 to power two qb648’s.
Sorry if this is a amateur question, I am new to indoor growing so still am lacking on all the technical stuff related to lighting. Any helpful answers would be very appreciated. thanks.

There are several ways you can go, but I recommend using the HLG240H-c2100b. I have 2 on each of my 4 board lights and I have them dimmed to 400 watts ( 200 watts per pair of boards. These boards put out huge amounts of light and at 400 watts, they make more than enough light for a 4x4 tent. In fact, after checking with a quantum par meter, my setup produces the max light usable by plants in a non-CO2 enhanced environment. Undimmed your pushing almost 480 watts and your PPF would have you running with your light at about 32 inches to not fry your plants lol. I ran 24 autos in 1 gallon pots and pulled a pound and a half, with the light set to 30 inches! 1.75 grams per watt without don't anything special, no plant training of any kind.

You'll need to wire them in parallel, there are diagrams on the HLG website that shows how to wire them.

here are the autos

Finally getting some plants going - running testers / Privada Skywalker OG and more KKP . Figured I would get off my ass and plant some more girls. Ive been lax since running perpetuals ( smoking away my jars ) , so figured I would ” restock “ by the time I actually make a dent in cupboard.

Running a single seed ( Privada Skywalker OG ) that was gathering dust in fridge.. ( 2 year old bean ) . I don’t have anymore , hence the larger pot upfront ( for later clone taking ) . Beats hunting down strain again and tossing cash. Running a newer layered mix with a bump ( 20% by volume ) of EWC and DYNOMYCO layer. Water only grow at 6.7 ph ..... topped and will get LST treatment as she grows out. This plant will cough up some clones for seeding and growing .

Testers ( DCSE Purple Snow Bubba x GG4 X Predator Pink ) running in 2 grow bags ( topped ) .... as they get some more growth in I will probably up pot them and clip some clones. I am watching it’s structure and liking what I see so far , no wonky mutations and such.

KKP ( Durban Poison x GG4 ) S1 seeds ( my Selfing project from months back ) in same EWC heavy layered mix.

Haven’t bought any bottles of Nutes in over a year ... and like it that way. Running DYNOMYCO but like Great White / Recharge better for interval applications .... maybe it’s because DYNOMYCO is more pelletized than GW. It kicks ass in germ starts but seems to not be that noticeable in course of growth. I am playing with different “ batches “ of mix to run photos this time instead of autos .

Quantums: QB96s with Agromax Pure UV / 10000k finisher ( 320w )
Supplemental Light : SF 1000 V2 led ( 100watts ) ( review board )

420 w :bigjoint:

Other tent ( 3x3 ) is out of use until Skywalker is ready to flip . That one is running the QB304s and COBS.

Anyone who genuinely enjoys building LEDs mind helping me with mine? i’m open to spend around 900$ tops, i’ve done some research myself and understand the basics but feel too stupid to actually buy anything.

I have some good suggestions thrown at me, but it’s just a lot. My wife spent thousands behind my back kind of, so now i’m in a bad spot. Very unfortunate.

For those of you considering DIYing a 4 board light here is a reasonable estimate of what it will cost you, if you use the single heatsinks. I don't like having all 4 hanging so my QB304 light was built using angle aluminum frames, a pair of QBs per frame. That kept the lights fairly adjustable without having to fuss with 4 separate boards. A frame will add $20+ to the build. As you can see, it makes the refurbs when available a real bargin as you can get a light with the large, single heatsink that way. So before you DIY, check to se what's available in the refurb section. All refubs come with a 1 year warranty.
Example, right now you can get the 550 ECO for $499.00!

QB 288 x4
without frame
with HLG480H-C2800b

$570

With HLG600H-C2800b

$615

Diablo x4

with HLG240H-C2100AB x2
$750

Those deep reds actually give plenty of red light and the 3500K whits have a fair amount of red. This is a great light in veg and in flower. Personally, I wouldn't trade my Diablo based lights for anything! Well, maybe for HLG's newest next great light.

:bigjoint:

The Scorpion Diablo really fills a whole 4 x 4 flower tent up. I love how the light is filling every corner :eyesmoke:

Not much red in there tho. Wondering if I need it.
