DIY with Quantum Boards

Hey everyone, been busy with covid and gardening ofc. I wanted to give everyone an update on my veggie grows. Im now running 12x qb132 v2 4k panels at aprox 600w. I have a 5ft pepper plant now, seemingly infinite amounts of bok choy, strawberries, arugula, romaine, beans, perilla and lots more. I've had great colors, flavor, smell and very tight node spacing. I dont harvest a whole lot but im getting there slowly. What i have harvested has been almost alien. When im washing these things or cutting them, i just see the water turning blue, red, yellow, purple. The mustard i grew was so hot i had to puree it and made like a wasabi like pesto sauce. The efficiency of the lights have let me grow perpetual crops, where as before umder HID i had lots of heat and bolting amd and constantly replanting. Thanks HLG
Wasabi! Been tryin to think of that word for a week!

Fuck Allied! They screwed up the same order on me THREE times! I pay a little more at Moser but they have been outstanding for customer service. RMA'd an HLG320H-2800 with no questions asked.

The latter two. I sent the RMA back to Allied mid March. I was warned that it wouldn't be looked at until early April with everything going on.

I finally called Allied and was told that Meanwell hasn't gotten back with Allied about how to remedy and I was told to wait.

I'm considering just buying a third one and returning one when the replacement comes in. I want my second light done and hanging.

OK, I just got an email from my local rep saying that Mean Well is requesting what application I was using the driver and the operating conditions. Good thing that I have my shit dialed in or I might be embarrassed getting caught off guard with poor grow specs. :hump:

I am a med carded patient in California so I guess I don't really care but a head's up to anyone considering using Allied for anything. They ask suspicious questions.

Gotham Limited update .... and friend .

2 Gotham Limited ( Trainwreck x 79 Xmas bud )
KKP

Ramped up power of QB 96s ( 320w ) with 80 w more ( 4000k QB 304 ) ... for about 400 in tent.
Heat lately is borderline - Cali is getting hot .... but thank god I went with an 8” extraction fan.
Plants are bulking nicely since power up last week. I don’t count weeks really anymore , I just water and topdress and give them
a look over ( pulling each out and picking off dead leaf ) and adjusting LST mostly.

Since they get done “ when they get done “ is better than crossing days off on calendar.
Light is definitely going thru plants nicely and am loving the penetration to lowers. Maybe I should have topped but I wanted to run this strain in her own glory , since I never ran them before. Deep peppery ? Piney smell .... much different than gassy diesels I usually run .

KKP has a deep sweet Kush smell , she’s probably gonna go longer I think than Gotham. She’s bulking a little but I will just her til wheels fall off I guess. She’s got a rocket ship shape that is not from any real training , in a 1 gallon bag.

All are still in layered mix with Kelp added at every watering , no real cal mag issues this time around .... maybe the soil temps are higher and everything is purring along ? They get thirsty every 3rd day like clockwork. I have another KKP in the QB 304 V1 / COB tent that I will probably update later ( blooming ).

Man I love that UV setup. You wouldn't run without it now I'm guessing? Huge noticeable differences?
You plan to switch to LED UV Anytime soon?

No haven’t done this time , to this grow really ( timer took a shit ) for this part . I usually would have it timed for “ 15 minutes at every 3rd hour x 4 “ during 12/12..... waiting for a HLG version of QB 96 with a couple UV leds in it ... ( @Stephenj37826 ???? ) .

LOL . They are always brainstorming new boards and rotating out the earlier versions . that would be epic if they did and i would mod that rig into either a 3 or 4 QB 96 Bar light if they did. Agromax Pure Uv are pretty powerful lamps “ especially running DUALS in that dual sunbalster Setup in between. Right now it has the “ Pure Par tube and 10000k finisher “.

With that rig hanging from ceiling ( out of tent ) would be where both UV lamps would be run, then i would need arm covers , hat and glasses . Bet that would torch COVID off laundry if i left them flat under lamps. Lol.

Haha very nice so you notice a difference in quality, size, or what?
What NM UV on these proposed 96s? they'll certainly need to be on a separate channel for a different driver?

Not particular Nm other than what agromax targets.
Quality as far as trich expression ... then yes. It really does push the rails on leaf ( sugar ) if looking for enhancing trim. Buds do get frostier but there is such a thing as too much uv. I french fried a few tops before. Some strains dig it , some are a little sensitive.

I mean QBs are running 660 , maybe swap a couple out for equivalent powered uv just to bump spectrum. IMO if they modded QB 96 to “ 3500k with 660 AND some UV added then it would be a nice spectrum curve ... who knows . Already eye ballin diablos for maybe finally swapping V1 boards i have running. I mentioned before they remind me of apple ... you grab the hot item , then something cooler comes out the next day .... lol.

Well NM is really important my dude. 285 and 310 are really decent wavelengths in UV B&C. 290/295/300 are all available.

I think this is the correct thread to post this:

A lot people should be in a similar situation to me. I want to add blues to my grow room in a separate driver so I can use my 8 3000k qb 132 in veg. I tried to find the blue percentage in 3000k and 4000k quantum boards and could not find an exact number. Integrating the spectral curves for both the 3000k and 4000k in python I came to the conclusion that 4000k quantum boards have 20% blue light while 3000k have only 11%, this means that for every 100 watts of 3000k light you have to add 11 watts of blue light to get the same percentage of blue that the 4000k have. I post this because maybe It can be useful for someone.

In the plots I poste 0=380nm and 400=780nm

I have my drivers and boards I just don't how to assemble everything without instructions. I have 2x xlg drivers 2 heat sinks and 4 boards from HLG. Is there a trusted guide, video, for assembling everything?

I found this

Which boards? QB 288 I'm guessing. Which version?

Which model of XLG driver? XLG-240-H-AB or the XLG-240-M-AB that comes with the 260 watt kits. That will determine whether you need to wire the boards in parallel or series.

XLG-240-H-AB X 2
288 RSPEC X 4

EDIT: V2 rspec
Ok, so you'll be wiring two boards to each driver in parallel. Do you want to mount your drivers on the heatsinks or remote mount them?
Do you have (preferably) two colors of 18 gauge solid core wire? Are you using wago connectors? The 3 port Wagos will work well.

I'll use red(positive) and black(negative) wire for an example. Driver V+ into 1st port of wago #1. 2nd port of wago #1 red wire to board #1 positive molex connector. 3rd port of wago #1 red wire to the board #2 positive connector. Now Driver V- into 1st port of wago #2. 2nd port of wago #2 black wire to board #1 negative connector. 3rd port of wago #2 black wire to board #2 negative connector. That's the DC side, just repeat these steps with the second driver and pair of boards.

If you remote mount your drivers you'll need to extend your wires on the DC side and depending on the distance between driver and lights, you may want to use a thicker gauge of wire for that run.

Did you buy potentiometers or are you going to use the internal potentiometer to adjust current?

For the AC side are you putting a plug on the driver input or are you using a power cord and a waterproof connector? Do you know which colors connect to which on the AC side or do you need help with that?

Hey guys, I as referred here from the indoor growing section. Can anyone tell me where to buy the "rubber feet" that come with the DIY HLG kits? I think they are M3x16 thumb screws, but am having trouble locating them. They look like they have a 9/16" raised knurled head( I know from my B spec DIY Kit). Apparently, they don't come with the Board/Sink combos, only the DIY kits.

(Doing a 2x2QB648 with 2x HLG-320H-C2800AB remote driver build for a 2.5x5x5 area)

These are as close as I could find when I built my diy heatsinks. They arent as nice as the HLG kit ones since they dont have the black finish but they still look good and do the job (my heatsinks are 1000mm long with 4 QB288 each so I needed some protection when moving them around).

Also fwiw, the ones that came w my 135W diy kit were just anodized black, not rubber so not sure if these are exactly what you are after.

Thanks a lot man! With my bspec veg kit, it looked like a nylon/plastic head over some kind of alloy threading. Did you get the M3x6mm or 10mm? I guess it doesnt matter, as long as it doesn't poke out past the top fins and gives the LEDs some clearance.

I have to double check but I think just the 6mm ones bc I had to manually drill and tap everything by hand. Pretty sure that is the combined height of a QB board and base of my heatsink. Since I could be making a hole right underneath a fin I didnt want to have to have to drill into the fins if that makes sense.
