DIY with Quantum Boards

I just finished my first build, and very pleased with the QB so far. They are brighter than any LED cob builds Ive done.
Guys, be careful with your vision around these, I tested the power before soldering my connections.
Holy shit, it got me good. burned the board pattern at the slant it was in, into my brain for awhile. When I closed my eyes, it stayed for about 15min. I did not have my sun glasses on.
I am wearing the darkest black shades oakley sells(polarized black iridium lenses), the gas cans version, recommend them. Buy a pair online, and save 60-80 bucks vs retail shit. Better than my wifes costas, which is what I had been using prior.

Robin was great to work with, he's a trustworthy guy for sure.

Those quantum boards demand respect!

I don't recommend using the WAGO connectors for these QB's. I had zero luck with them, or maybe they just didn't grasp the wire well enough. Buy yourself a soldering gun, and some wire, and heat shrink, and watch some youtube vids. It's really not that hard, and I'm a total noob. You can shrink the heatshrink by holding your iron close to the heat shrink, if you don't have a heat gun.

They are a pain at first. You have to really pull hard like you are going to break them (they will go back further) and then stick the wire in. I thought the same thing on my first QB kit.

Well said!

The differences boil down to efficiency. Quantum boards use substantially more efficient chips and use more of them per watt driven, both of which improve light output on a per watt basis.

So the benefits include saving energy, more light and needing less cooling.

Being cheap is what got us shitty burple lights. You go ahead and buy that crap, gives us a good laugh when they shit the bed.........

How do customers know that? Everyone isn't light savvy you know. Most of us just like to plug and grow. Like I'm seeing this 550 for like 1k that only covers a 4.5x4.5. The nextlight mega covers a 5x5 with a 7x7 veg footprint. And dude on IG is using the same lights that these quantum boards is using (allegedly) for hundreds cheaper. I have a friend using them and he says those 50$ boards is killing in his garden. So I'm just trying to see what's the best bang for my buck. Everyone says their light is the most efficient but we the customers never see side by sides grow offs to prove that.

You shouldn't be soldering these connections. Solder joints fail under stress.

If you don't want to use wago's, get a good pair of crimpers and some quality barrel crimps. Cover them with adhesive lined shrink tubing. The wire will break before the connection fails if you do it correctly, and it will be waterproof.

not too well educated on these lights are you? What the hell does a side by side have to do with efficiency????. Mars Hydro is having a sale, I'm sure they'll take good care of you.......

Do you make lights? Do you own quantum? Do you have boards? I have a few nextlight veg8's for veg and a mini for veg. They kick ass in veg. And my first question wasn't for you if you're not a owner of the said quantum board company. Your advice wasn't nothing but more efficient blah blah. How do you know they are more efficient if you never ran both side by side?

You one slow mofo huh. If you took the time to read you would know I'm rocking pro4's from amare and the originators nextlight dick face. Do you know your lights isn't certified? Be safe though, keep drinking the koolaid!!!

unlike 90% of other companies, he's telling you they are not tested yet. Ther majority do the same as the Chinese sellers. They just stick the UL cert logo on them, but never test them. This is rampant because they government rarely enforces the standard.
However, knowing the components, wiring, etc come with cert, doesn't it add up that passing cert should be easy? Hey! Loan them the $10,000 - $15,000 per unit cost..........

Do you know the true definition of stupidity? Ignorance is merely a lack of knowledge. Stupidity is willful ignorance..

One more question why are you selling lights that's not certified? That puts you in the same boat as the $50 board pusher.

I have total confidence in my lights. I used to sell my own line of computers, I understand completely how the process works. Having also looked inside lights with bare drivers and wiring merely hand twisted together, yet with the Cert stickers on them, I prefer my own visual inspection of products I buy, and I do inspect them, inside and out. As a former Hewlett Packard field service engineer, I'm certainly much more qualified to judge products then you ever will be in your lifetime!
