Someone had a valid question and im pretty sure i didnt see the answer. Do you have to have one driver per 3070 bulb or is their a larger driver available that you could wire several lights up to? Also if red 660 were the go to complete this baby. How many watts of warm would you add to perfect gallactica

There are def larger drivers. Do a bunch of reading here and you'll find ,
Many different combinations depending on the builders preference. Don't know much about the 660, except that not everyone is a believer haha

Does anyone have any thoughts about this heat sink used to passively cool a CXB3590 driven at about 70W?

It will cool it 70W passively, but probably not at a decent temperature. It'll probably be somewhere around 60-70C case temperature. That will not cause damage or quicker lifetime deterioration, but will mean running slightly less efficient.

Gadgetboy has give you a good list for led supplies, but the easiest ways to ventilate tents are with Nodor Pucks or the portable electric scrubber at scentless.bz
Add that to the list because if the correct led lights are used the heat is not nearly as big a factor as the smell!

Think he means light colour.

Either lost one of my cree or the driver. Going to have to wire the other driver to it and check

Hello and thank you for posting this journal. I am a total noob. I love your light so I bought 8 cree cxa3070's. I am just about to buy the drivers. Before I do, I was wondering if you still feel it was best to do 8 drivers and if not, what driver would you recommend? Sorry if this question has already been asked and answered.

It is probably gonna be hard to find a driver that can push enough amps and if you do it will most likely be pretty expensive. I have built this system using an arduino (http://www.arduino.cc/) to control it so I am using the Meanwell LDD drivers (http://www.rapidled.com/mean-well-ldd-1000hw-dimmable-driver/) On each light which are much cheaper but they require a 5v input from something like the arduino to control them for dimming. They can be wired to just be on off without a controller if you just want to use a timer. The LDD drivers put out a little less power than OP's setup but I find them good. I currently only run 6 of these at a lower power than OP but got pretty good results compared to when I ran a 1000w HID setup. I am planning on doubling my setup within a week or two and will post a detailed description of what I did.

i used the smaller one( 20mm thickness) to cool a cxa 2540 running at 49w and had issues sink temp was 67
then the chips cooked as per "fried egg"thread

dunno if it was a TIM issue but they def got hot

@SupraSPL looks like one of the drivers I got from you died. Best source for a replacement that's not shipped from China? Need to get up and going quick.

I probably should not have ran it 24/7. Maybe it needs a heat sink. Maybe it was just defective. Who knows.

I may have overlooked it but for those who have used cobs and built their own light what in your opinion would be the optimum number of cxa 3070AB 3000k to flower a 4' x 5'
(20 sq ft) area. I bought 8 lights but am starting to doubt my calculations. I definately want to make it powerful enough to do the job. Also what seems to be the optimum height over the canopy for these cobs. I'm building an aluminum 3' x 3' frame to hold the lights and give them a good spread. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey brother I'll tell you what I would do is get 4 more cobs for 12 total. Run them at 50 watts each for 600 total watts. You could even go up to 7 or 800 watts if you felt like it but 600 should do great. I'd also make your frame bigger...like 4x4...I think that would give you a better spread over the edges of your canopy. Greengenes garden would be a great one to have a look at for a light with similar specs

Hey everyone, sorry to hijack the thread with a question,,,, but i bought two cxa3050 from digikey:

CXA3050-0000-000N00W227F-ND :2700K
CXA3050-0000-000N0HX250F-ND :5000K

But i was too eager to take them out and try them, so i never got them labeled. Does anyone know how i can tell the difference from the two??
One of the led's are a darker orange than the other one. But other than that i am lost. Will the 5000K led have a more blue hint to the color?? Help???

No problem. May be hard to tell with the human eye. Let me know if you can tell

There may or may not be a part number on the cob that would identify the part as well

on the picture: the led on top is 5000K, the other one is 2700K. I use 5000K and 3000K, the only difference is the colour of the yellow.

What are you using to power the fans?

I only have a single fan so using a wall wart 5v from old cell phone. I cut the plug off the phone and off the fan and wired it together. Be careful hooking up dc backwards. Not sure if it'll run backwards or fry....
