I love these kits. Priced amazing too! Now this doesn't mean a cost of living increase is needed but I do hope they stick around for many years to come. I have no problem spending 400 and making a frame to save 400-600 compared to buying an exact light.

Hi RIU,

Wanted to share some photos of a concept that started as a necessity and sort of evolved from there.

We needed to build frames for our QA area in order to hang each kit on while we tested it - so we went to home depot and bought some aluminum L-frame. Using parts we had in the shop we built a few frames. Last week someone got out the hacksaw and chopped one of the frames up, drilled it, and created a modular frame concept - configurable in a linear format, "h-shape", "x-shape" or "?". It's also designed to expand/contract based on a 9-12" distance between COB center points.

Being light geeks, we of course added 730 nM stars and the associated circuitry.

After the holidays, we will create a bill of materials and also a schematic for folks to download off our website for anyone looking for a simple modular frame idea or a jumping off point for a more advanced concept. The pics are rudimentary, as is the design. This is no Growmau5 Canopy 10 design - not even close, we used a hacksaw and drill press - but it does the trick.

Just wanted to share some ideas with the community.

Have a good 4th of July weekend,

Dan
g'day Dan,
Do the reflectors have holes for screws to go through to attach the heatsinks to aluminium frame?

Awesome kits, @RainDan ....but please make a dressy-looking pontoon that us prefab light owners can clip or hang on our prefab light fixtures, too! :) -Something that looks just as slick as the prefabs, themselves....

if i can get this bracket thing into production, it will fit the Timber Cooliance 100mm. And I will have some video(s) soon about "best practices" safety, and diy tips /supplies

No has taken growmau5 up on the buisness venture yet? I'll take 20 of these! I have a friend who runs a equipment and asked if he could make me some knockoffs. I really like the 80/20 frame idea with these. Super clean look!

something pretty interesting happened after posting those canopy videos.

The guys at Big Blue Saw must have some kind of public relations software searching social media comments because they saw my video. Although I had called them months ago, I used my real name, never mentioned my YouTube channel or the specific application of the bracket.

So here's the rub. the heatsinks that fit this bracket are already $16-22 each. adding a $10-11 bracket on top of that & a $7-8 beauty plate really starts killing the savings of DIY.
-while it looks aesthetically pleasing, and offers flexibility in adding monos and adjusting spread, it starts to quickly approach the price point of some commercial LED products with a warranty.
-For me or someone else to have BBS cut the brackets, I would have to lay out some cash to get quantity discount pricing.
-While I am all about freedom of information & open source, if im laying out $1000-1500, I expect a return on that and would have to mark up accordingly.

In my mind, the only thing that makes sense price wise is for Big Blue Saw to step up to the plate, take the risk on cutting 100 units and cut out all the middlemen, selling to end users.
-or hell, if Dan or anyone else wants to pony up the cheddar to order enough to make it worth it price wise, they have my blessing. (although they don't need it, its open source, do with it as you please).
-So how do we get them to do it?
-I don't want to blow up their spot by saying in a video "hey call these guys if you are interested"
-so how do we let BBS know that there is demand for this design and how do we help them anticipate demand so that we can get the lowest price based on some volume?

<this is a little off topic of Timber Kits, but I have photographed and used this bracket with the Timber Cooliance Pin sink on many occasions & it works fantastic, so Dan, I hope you don't mind>

That's exactly what I was considering..... Making my own system for about $40 and not looking like a masterpiece won for me. But I'm jealous of the 80/20 guys and growmau5s awesome looking bracket.

The angle alum is a do-able idea and I have done it. But I think it's sort of boring. Like I said I considered 80/20 with these making the span from a 4" wide frame to a 6 or 8 inch wide frame.

Now what would be pretty f-ing awesome and cheap to ship would be an 80/20 kit. 4 pieces 2@8" and 2@48 with the fancy canopy plates and sell them as a kit as well. 400 beans for the kit and say another 100-150 for the frame??? Still very well under commercial applications.

I personally like the black 80/20 then with the plates possibly powder coated black as well. Could accent it with some colored t-slot covers or even as little as colored end caps. I'd bet my last dollar these would sell. DIY isn't for everyone but attaching a few screws and clicking buy it now most defo would be.

Id considering ordering them if I knew these plates would sell. The 80/20 is just a simple click away though. As a kit like the timber it eliminates the shopping around part.

Hi RIU,

Recent changes at Timber. All kits now include Angelina reflectors. And all kits still include free shipping within the US. And of course they come pre-wired with fused power inlets and other safety features like waterproof interconnects, automotive grade heat shrink and solid gauge wiring. And the Meanwell Power Supplies have a 7 year warranty. Just bolt to a frame (hardware included) and plug in and go.

As always, we appreciate your support very much.

Regards,
Dan

Nice! Still less expensive than other available kits, pre-wired with all the accouterments, and the top shelf drivers. You guys are killing it, Dan!
Thanks Nu-Be. Adding the reflectors and the RZ diffuser lenses to the kits just made sense. Folks are looking for reflectors anyhow, and the diffuser lenses do dual purpose in that they protect the LES and make it easier for maintenance - they also diffuse the light, which helps to spread the beam. And we are building top notch kits so it only made sense to give them the full package.

As with any optic, the RZ lenses are going to have a little loss, but @Growmau5 recently has shown on his Growmau5 revolution thread - they do help to spread the beam out more by the PAR readings he is getting on his Canopy 10 model.

I'm looking forward to trying the diffusers out. (They were included on my latest Timber CXB400R.)

*NOTE* I know I started this thread to let everyone know about the new kits....but....I want to give a shout out to their pre-fab line of lights, too. The build quality is superb. They aren't like any other commercial fixtures on the market. The are like the "muscle cars" of pre-fab COB fixtures! :)

I previously used the (Timber) Vero240 with the Stella lenses to successfully grow 4 plants "tree-style" and my next grow will be with the new CXB400R fixture with the Angelinas and diffusers -probably a scrog or mainline technique.

Aaaaannnnnd...back to the kits! ;)

Hi @questiondj42,

It's not something you can swap out - will require some changes to your existing set up.

Send me a PM or email and we will take care of you and get you hooked up.

Thanks,
Dan
