just scooped three little mushrooms out of the planter that has the seedling with the spots... fuck... going to try to spray them all with a little baking soda and water tomorrow. hopefully this clears this up...

Growing good buds is about knowing how to grow, not which light you have or how much you invest in equipment.
You can spend hundreds of dollars and not get good yields if you don't understand what to do with the equipment you bought

I am having an issue with heat and circulation right now. woke up and the temp was 91. I cant have the door to the closet open most the time...

and im having the same troubles getting the ventilation regulated ....going to install a negative pressure fan today that vents into a carbon filter(DIY) should lower the temps just enough to keep it a toasty 79-81 degrees in there im hoping....good luck mate !!

Yeah I will be following your grow. I am seeing temps up and down from 68 at night with lights off and up to 91 when the AC is off and door is shut during the day. for the mushrooms I read one post that said to add some baking soda to the water. apparently that was not the best thing to do and vinegar should have been added. MG soil is supposed to have a pretty low ph and the mixture I made had about a 8 ph. so hopefully this doesnt kill them.
I did a partial flush because of the spots on one of the plants. theyre getting bigger. I am thinking perhaps one of the Miracle grow balls is wrapped up in its rots or something.
its only been a week and a half and I have so many posts on this thread. I apologize if this is coming off as neurotic but I guess it is a grow Journal. and documentation for any experiment only helps others.
two more days til my vacation and this little ladies are home alone for the weekend. hope they dont get into any trouble

may just be temporary but the results are pretty good.
this is the extra bathroom that only I use. I plan on buying a cheap lock tomorrow to lock it up. just a little extra security as my room mate doesnt come into my room but I will be gone for four days and he may decide to snoop around. you never know... even wrote tomato on the planters in case he finds em. my gf just started an herb garden in another part of the apartment so that may be enough to throw him off. probably just being overly paranoid.
I made an swamp cooler out of the back (clean) part of my toilet. A fan on the closed bowl is blowing the cooled evaporated water up to the plants. a tiny fan beside the plants is blowing the hot air away. There is an exhaust fan in the bathroom that is good at pulling the heat out.
from the 88-91 range in my closet I am down to an average of 77 degrees.
pretty ghetto but its working and more self contained than the closet. I was having to kep the closet door open most the day which wont be possible when spring break is over. There is also no more noise than when the exhaust fan is on.
the fungus hasnt popped up again yet. The plant with the brown spots is getting worse but the rest are fine. Any of you guys have this problem with miracle grow?

alrighty. leaving for my trip in the morning. the babies will be left alone for 4 days. pretty anxious. espescially because the fungus fairy came again last night. they all dried out by the time I woke up though. Well Spring Break is over. Worried about my little seedlings all week and rushed home from the airport to check on them.
pretty disappointed with what I found. I expected they would be dried out a little but as you can see, two plants have almost no change at all. I made sure they were thoroughly watered before I left. the planter that had the spots has wilting on the first set of true leaves. The second planter with two plants in it seems to be doing ok but no big change over the week.
I know this is bagseed but does that explain the slow growth I am seeing here? I guess I will trash the two that are super stunted and start over. I germed a few over the break and they have about an inch and a half shooting out of the split seed.
I plan on moving the two that are the healthiest to a new pot tomorrow. should I even try to move on with the two that are spotted/wilted?
if they have not perked up a little bit by tomorrow night then I guess I will just start with a new seed. I am actually out of bagseed now though... too bad this hadnt worked out better so far or I wouldnt feel bad about ordering something fancier. I wonder if the seeds I am using are just not even worthy to try and grow...
I plan on sprouting and growing from now on in a mix of topsoil/MG organic/sand with some blood meal/worm casting/rabbit dropping mix I got at the organic plant place.... I cannot find any perlite or vermiculite that isnt treated with something around here, but when I move to the final pot I will be mixing in some river rocks to help drainage as well.
I have also been doing some reading on using Urine and estrogen supplements to help sex the plants. So this is weird but I am going to start using my girlfrieds urine as a portion of my water. She is on birth control and I have read that this will add a steady boost of nitrogen and estrogen during veg stage... I am a little out of it from the trip but I swear I didnt make that up . here is the link. most of it deals with creating seeds from plants that are more likely to become feminine but there are portions dealing with things you can do to help insure that you get a female. It only raises the chances like 10-15% but with as much damage I am doing this cant hurt to try and at least level my odds back to 50/50 female.

edit - on further reading the estrogen thing is probably BS. plants use a different type of estrogen. although the link does provide very interesting information on people wanting to produce their own feminized seeds.

I think my retarded (literally) growth may be due to too little light. I have a bathroom to grow in with good ventilation, but I am not sure how to set up lights. I have 6 CFLs on two pots and 3 on my new restarted seeds. is this enough? anyone want to point me to a setup that is similar?
I have thought about using rubbermaids to localize the light better or adjustable shelves... my nutrients dont seem to be the problem at this point.

your gonna want to have at least one 100 watt equivalent CFL per plant and if your gonna run more then 4 plants your gonna want to have some sort of side lighting going on .. click the link in my signature at the bottom of my post for examples how to run multiple plants on minimum CFL's

Thanks for the quick response. I am a little nervous about drilling into the walls. I dont have a drill handy or a stud finder and not sure about what that would do to my deposit on the apartment. I just spent a while reading about other small grows. I am interested in DWC. I also just switched all my plants to flower, even the ones that are just sprouting. These are all sativa and I wont know what to do with them once they start getting up there in height. This is just a dirty run anyway. I guess I just needed a hobby to take my mind off midterms.

if your just having trouble hanging lights use a 2x4 run across and then screw into the walls on either side then when/if you move just Spackle over the screw holes and your done

Well, my three surviving plants are starting to look like mj. I am going to assume it is because of the seeds I am using that it is taking so long. they are still pretty small. about 3 inches across. I have my lights and soil setup pretty well I think, just looking around town for a cabinet or something to put all this in so that it is more contained, doesnt really need to be stealth. I put some new germed sprouts into soil three days ago and they are already about a half the size of my plants that are three weeks old. I started out with that lame little fluoro tube for about a week and a half on my older plants so the new ones under the proper CFL setup are coming in stronger and faster. Ill get some pics soon. I lost the charger to my camera and the replacement is like $70... bastards.

had my first paranoia attack this morning. My room mate had a problem with his bathroom and when the maintenance guy came by he thought it was the bathroom my little grow is in. thought about ditching everything but my girlfriend said not to worry about it. I definitely need to get a stealth cab going soon, just for peace of mind.
Pics will be up as soon as I find my cameras usb cable. I bought some fox farm grow big and will be adding that to the watering rotation. LST'd the biggest one and its already got its leaves pointing straight up. Theyre still really small though. These have been going for almost a month and are about the size most people see at two weeks. I am pretty sure I was underwatering though bc when I transplanted to pots, the roots were huge.

Did some more reading in Buds for Less (great book) and the growth I am seeing is the first sets of alternating nodes. This means its near time to switch to 12/12. I am going to go another week then switch all my plants to 12/12, even the seedlings. With any luck I will get a couple females, but I think I will only keep one. The rest will be planted along a secluded part of the river.
I have already started LSTing. going to try to keep the overall height as close to 3 feet as possible. Still on the hunt for a Dresser to convert into a cab.
My girlfriend is growing basil and lavender in the kitchen. About a week ago I started noticing some whiteflies skittering around on my soil. I think its because we got her plants from a garden outlet that is outdoors. I guess I will leave my plants to dry up a bit to see if that takes care of the problem. I also leave my window open sometimes to get some air in. this may have also been the cause.

started adding more time to my night cycle. Accidentally went a little strong on one of my plants with nutes but I think I corrected the problem before any burning shows up. Just a little leaf curling. May have been too much watering. I get spaced sometimes and I think I watered them a couple times in one day. I still cant find my damn camera cable. but not much has changed. one of my plants though has doubled size in the last week and a half, and my seedlings are showing much better new growth then my first attempt.
I also attempted to top my big plant. I am pretty sure I did it right. just used a razor blade and cut the new growth off. I cant seem to find a definitive and static example of how FIM is done. I am also LSTing this one. hopefully it is a girl.
My second potted plant is looking very scrawny still and not showing alot of change. Will probably scrap it soon and replace it with one of the new babies.
Should be at 12/12 a week from today. Hopefully know sexes in two weeks.
