Recently I've been backing off on using as much chicken manure and other amendments like feather meal. Too much fast release N...I think it's got to do with the shit-ton of spent coffee grounds I put into the worm bin; some of my sativa leaning plants were getting twisty crowfoot claw leaves. The others were just very deep green so I've been holding back a bit. I happen to have about 20 lbs of mushroom compost that I plan to add to my recycling soil a little at a time. It is a 50/50 horse poop and straw mix so I figured that and some coco & perlite might cut my mix down enough. For years I was always going the opposite way trying to keep them green all through to harvest. Now the mix is a bit too stout lol

That is why alotta peeps go the scrog route. You'll get a maxed out yield in a small space. A scrog net just doesn't work well with my perpetual type setup. I built some rolling scrog screens as you can see somewhere not too long ago in this thead but they didn't work as well as i thought they would.
Don't get too experimental just yet; get a few grows under your belt first before you try new tricks. Master the basics then jump right into the advanced class.

Ah, I hear ya. Space is a factor for me at the moment and I may have bit off more than I can chew germing 5 seeds with a 4x3x5.8 foot space. You're right I'm totally learning and improvising as I go. Can't question your results, I'll take your word. That's some high times level smut you got.

I think these might be the most gorgeous plants I've grown yet. The strawberry sour diesel are turning a very nice purple....

To contrast these NL X Chronic clones were not decreased in light gradually. They were flipped as normal from an 18/6 right to 11.5/12.5. Notice how the nodes are stretched? These won't get the same amount of bud mass per cola as the SSDs in the last pics. Just didn't have time to let them veg longer; realized if I didn't flip these asap I will be outta bud by mid June. That can't happen lol

I hear ya man. It's hard to imagine you ever running low on bud man.. I know how it is though; hungry heads.

Like I said, I'll be taking your word for it. I am a bit nervous admittedly bc it goes against general or common instructions but your Results are convincing.

Actually it doesn't and it was not even my idea. It was in a back issue of Skunk magazine. It's a very old technique just not all that popular because many lack the time/space/patience to do it. I just tried it out to see and it does work.
Probably looks like I'm sitting on pounds but the truth is if I'm cutting a plant I'm getting low on bud. Taking them one or 2 at a time keeps my jars curing but I almost always harvest out of necessity. My ol lady sits around smoking blunts all day like she's Rhianna. Hard to keep up some months lol
Organics gives you very high quality bud but you just don't get the yields you can from hydroponic grows. I'm all about quality over quantity. My plans only average 1-2 zips of premium cola bud per plant & all the lower stuff is turned to concentrates.

Takes 9-11 weeks to ripen most strains. Lowering hours of light exposure in the final weeks before flipping to bloom phase extends veg time but not flowering time. To answer your question I try to go about 3 weeks of gradually reduced light just before the flip. I start at 18/6 then go to 17/7 for a week then to 16/8 for another week then to 15/9. The SSD plants above went to 14/10 for just a few days and started throwing pistils so then i just plopped then in the bloom room. Sometimes I do things because I run outta space; at the time the flower room was full & some plants were not ready to chop just yet so I had to keep the SSD plants in veg for another week. They never finish when you want them to. Timing a perpetual grow is a constant challenge.

Very helpful man. I understand better now.. I thought when you started reducing hours, you considered that flowering. Ohh the pains of perpetual growing that I'll get to know. First world problems man.

Trimmed up the last SSD plant. Love this strain. Got one more still a youngin only a few weeks old...better take alotta clones; no more SSD beans left.
I've got 5 reg KOS candyman haze seeds in the dirt on a heat mat just waiting to pop off. Have not grown out reg seed in forever but I'm hoping to grow out a selected male this time so I can make more seed and maybe a cross or 2. Thanks for lookin

All 5 of those candyman haze went off at exactly the same time...hooray for nice fresh viable seeds from growers in the good old US of mf-ing A.
In other news here are some pics of my 4 NL X Chronic clones currently in week 6 of flowering. It's gonna be a long 5 week stretch without a harvest because I fucked up the timing of my perpetual grow waiting for these clones to root. Got lazy I guess and now I'll probably have to buy weed and/or pick some shit early to get by. They said it shouldn't be used for flowering but this 10k MH is working splendidly I must say....-

Being the honest grower that I am I will share failures as well as successes here. After my last post on this thread I did not mention that my timer shit the bed because it did not seem like that big a deal; these junkass mechanical timers fuck up all the time and luckily I had a backup on hand. So after resetting the new timer back to the same 11.5/12.5 flower cycle as the last one I guess I didn't notice the main switch was set to continous operation mode instead of timer mode indicated by a tiny picture of a clock.
That was on June 7th. On June 18th I returned home from a short vacation to see that my plants in the flower room have reverted back to vegging. The 4 NL X Chronic plants that were in mid-week 6 have begun growing out the sugar leaves. The other 3 plants that were put into the flower area two weeks ago are now tall as fuck prompting me to raise the lights up higher. I'm not worried so much about those 3 because they were barely transitioning when the timer blew up but I have no idea how this would affect the four plants that I figured would be in week 9 now. Has this happened to anyone else? If so how delayed will the harvest be now? Will it just be a few more weeks extra or does the countdown begin all over again?

If they're not budding I would just chop the tops off and clone them. The clone's will have some bad ass monster cropped reveg.

There's 3 plants I already took alotta clones from I'm just gonna let them go. Plus I've got too many plants in my veg tents already. The height is not really an issue as there's plenty of vertical space but now the canopy is uneven. I can put the shorter plants that are further along in bloom phase in top of milk crates to level the canopy if I need to. I'm really just wondering if I need to restart countdown to harvest on those or if it will just set my harvest window back a few weeks.

When I do the perpetual thing my sati's usually end up laying on some indi's. Unless I use tomato cadges. Why restart countdown? It might set some lower branches back a little. You know what we do with those.

Surprisingly, after peering through my pocket scope I found there were a high percentage amber trichomes on the top cola buds of my NL X Chronic plants. This would've been week 9 if I didn't revert them back to veg phase but it's not going to be a total loss.
I have decided to step harvest these plants. The lower nugs are very leafy and green with tiny white wispy flowers so no sense in bothering with them for now. Only the top cola buds appear viable to cure and the rest is leafy, green and loose. So it seems to make sense to pull some of the best cola buds to dry/cure and then leave the rest to continue to develop the flowers on the lower half of these plants.

Well it's been kind of a rough summer so far sourcing weed from my old freinds. Luckily someone has a dispensary card so I've been paying street prices to the legal dealers in my state which is outrageous but at least now I know the quality of my own bud far surpasses most of the garbage they sell.
I got here because I accidentally reverted my plants back to veg when a mechanical timer blew up. I forgot to switch the new replacement from continuous to timer mode like a dumbass. My new goal is to never run outta bud again. Ever.
The great timer fiasco forced me to harvest only the tops that were the most ripe to make some errl (which was decent btw) and I had to leave the rest to regrow into new buds. The upside is the plants currently flowering will produce some good bud and lots of it but the downside is I probably got to wait til the end of August to pull them. I had 3 plants that were showing pistils before the great timer fiasco but they had grown right up to the ceiling by the time I figured out my problem.
So now my main 600w mh is jacked up on the yoyos as high as they will go and there's only about 6" space between the highest plant tops. The bigger plants are done stretching and going into what looks to be about week 4 of flowering.


The plants that were step harvested are compact but have nice big buds forming from the wispy old bottom growth. They are elevated up on crates & oughta produce a decent haul albeit a very long awaited harvest. I always wanted to flip the whole room at once so this should be interesting. Here's a few pics:
