Jaysus it's uncomfortable enough going away on vaca and leaving the girls behind eh? Nightmare to come home to a broken timer. It could be worse, there are worse problems. Better you, a vet, than me a novice. You will recover nicely I'm sure.
I wish I was looking at an August harvest. My girls are outside now and there no telling when I'll earn my first chop date. That's an admirable goal as well. To never run out of weed and to be self sufficient would be a dream come true. Good luck man I'll be tuned in

I wasn't really on a vacation; I just forgot to set the timer switch when the old one blew out. I did go away for a weekend to come home & realize the plants had reverted back to veg. I was like wow what's all this branching & new growth shooting out from the top buds...hmm must be foxtailing. Then I was like wow these other plants that are showing pistils just keep on stretching. I'm such a dumbass!
My goal has always been to never run out and up to now I've been fairly consistent in my perpetual. Now everything is pushed back several weeks. I'm gonna hafta begin flowering in one of my veg tents to keep up or I will have another gap in production while the next set of plants flower out. I have already transplanted the next 4 plants into 10g smart pots but they will be over vegged if I don't flip them in the next few weeks. My small veg I use for clones and young seedlings is bursting at the seams with plants. Way too many under a t5 means I'll have to top them all again soon..,,The perpetual grow just keeps on truckin; it'll roll over you if you let it.

Ahh but this mishap also shows you how well your perpetual is actually going normally, doesn't it!
So many details going out of whack - usually you just sail through all that, making it all look so simple
Really hairy buds coming along there too now! :weed:

A word to the wise: if anything bad ever happens in your grow be sure to check everything out because it's likely there's something else you overlooked lurking around the corner. I've already told my sad story about the great timer fiasco but there's more:
When I came home the other night the grow room was dark again...uh oh not good. The leds came back on after a few mins along with the fans that run continuously. I thought at first it was a breaker or GFCI outlet acting up. The 10k Solistek bulb that was only about 5 mo old was burned out so I replaced it with a backup 600 mh. Thought the issue was fixed...
The next night I came home to a dark grow room again. Another backup bulb had burned out so I really started looking around. Found an extension cord had arced and was now permanently welded to the power strip. Every time I wiggled the wire the power came back on & then went out a few mins later. Unplugged everything to find the power strip had burn marks along the seam and in a few of the outlets. Tossed it all out and replaced it but it could've started a fire!!! New bulb is now on order but luckily I still had an old hps laying around as an extra backup.

Dicks AACT method...join the tea party!!!

I like to give an aac-tea to my plants when they have been in bloom for a couple weeks and then maybe again a few weeks later; then pretty much just water though to harvest time. Plants in veg sometimes get a liquid fish based tea but they usually don't need much more than a single application if at all.
I use a 160 micron mesh, same type that is typically used to make drysifting screens as sort of a tea-bag. I place about 2-3 cups of EWC per 5 gal bucket 3/4 full of rain water inside the nylon mesh. Yes when it rains (which hasn't been happening much at all due to droughts) I physically catch the rainwater in buckets and use it for teas & watering. Its the best quality water one can use for growing IMHO. Anyway along with super fresh worm poop I add some dry kelp meal and 5-5-5 happy frog fertilizer about 2 tblsp each. If my plants are looking pale I will add seabird guano but only 2-3 pellets for this amount of water is all they really need. Sometimes I add Neptunes harvest and/or FF big bloom (which surprisingly is organic) along with an EWC/kelp top dressing if the plants seem to need extra love early to mid bloom.
I use a wire tie to close the tea bag hobo style and attach a piece of yardstick so I can mix and retrieve the teabag without getting any bacteria on me or my hands. The bag is great because I don't have to filter out the particles when tea is done bubbling and I dump the spent compost right into my recycling soil bin. The nylon mesh is easily rinsed off in the sink under hot tap water.
I use a red frog air diffuser instead of a stone which makes vigorous bubbles and a tropical fish tank heater is used when temps get below 65. I usually add molasses first and then drop in my teabag once it is mixed well but last night I realized I ran out of blackstrap so substituted with 100% pure organic Vermont maple syrup. Time will tell if it worked the same as molasses would have...

Yo, awesome thread Richard,
halfway in now.

First off, awesome Scrog Rollers man! I've never liked scrogging for the one reason everything gets locked into place, but you done did it up there man - Passing that to my scrog buddy, props to you.

Secondly, how did your SLH 14 week cultivar turn out? -was that a rare throwback pheno or do you think we were just getting a tad hungry for Phosphorus? doesn't really seem like it by the size of them beautiful spears but thats a long finish, eh- But there are some definite sativa phenos in that line, no doubt, I've found the highs to stay speedy even when chopped at 11 weeks+.. how was the high for you on her?

Lastly, nice work on the tea regime eh aha.. yeah man.. I like the 160 micron bag on a stick, with the aquarium adopted setup.. all rad. I was just thinking of a clip-on PVC vortex brewer for my 30 gallon barrels cause I was in the corners of 5gal tea bucket playing with castings in my hands, cause one of my 2 little air stones conked out... never even though of all the bacteria on my arm, ha. I usually use a mesh style pencil case, and just leave it in, there, collect it after, but having attached a stick, of course, thats the way to roll- especially since it doubles as a big ol' stir stick.

Cool runnin my man..
Keep it up!

Hey thanks Don! The roll-a-scrogs did not quite work out the way I thought they would mostly because i think I need a larger veg area to fill them out before flipping them. I can only fit one of those at a time in my 36"x36" 2nd stage veg tent. In comparison the scrogs yielded slightly less than plants that were simply topped a few times and allowed to veg a bit taller. I bet they would work better if I had more veg space. I'm thinking about converting them to square rolling planters.
Super lemon haze is superb bud but I gotta admit that 14 weeks was too long. I could've pulled at 12 & would've been less sleepy. I will go 11-12 weeks for that strain from now on. I think i was looking at a lot of the lower nugs which had more clear trichs. Many times I harvest out of need for weed but if I can lay back I tend to try and wait till the last minute to chop; got lazy & waited too long this time I think.
The old mesh bag bottom I used to use for hash runs still works really well as a giant hobo-style tea bag on a stick. It keeps all the solid stuff from mucking up the tea while infusing it with all the goodies. Plus the stick is good for dunking & stirring up the shit every 12hrs or so. I squeeze the bag out real good with rubber gloves and toss the spent tea waste into the recycling soil bin. If I have extra tea left over I load it into a garden sprayer & filter it again through another mesh this time a 90u bag to take out any small chunks that clog up the sprayer & then spray my lawn & veggies with it. A mesh bag would probly work well in a vortex brewer too.

I hear ya. Our 1st no till bed on wheels or our first 2 for that matter were not 100% successes either, by any means.. first one had too deep of crevices (used 2x4 then smart pot fabric in between slats) and the second ones were too deep with not enough aeration, but in the right spaces, and applications, with some tweaks, we got some cool ideas man, could be really awesome in the future.

I hear you on watching the bottom of that SLHz too, that strain really matures from the top down, eh.. I did a 3 stage harvest once on the PG (more the sativa / SLHz pheno) 3 weeks apart each time and pulled like 3 zips each time, they can put out. but yeah, 9 weeks of harvesting! Bet I started bit too (tbh) early that time and waited bit too long cause I didnt do any trimming down low as she went into flower.. quite branchy those sativa phenos can be, especially when topped!

Now have gone towards more a top and LST style, or FIM and LST, and aim for about a top per gallon, of soil, give or take, depending on pheno of course. And clean up the lowest branches that aren't going to become tops.
Not that I don't appreciate an untouched untrained plant, thats just beautiful too.

But yea, very enjoyable tops at 10 weeks, effects from day 77 (middle canopy) are also very good.

Keep up the open minded work, man, nothing is better for the game than that.

So far it looks like out of the first 5 regular Candyman Haze seeds i sprouted way back in May there will be 2 males and 3 females. Unless another one starts growing balls that is. Maybe too early yet to tell.
I have read that in selecting a male for collecting pollen you should judge with your nose. The first boy shot up vigorously and showed sex before all of the rest. Very thick hearty stems with a pungent skunk stank; thinking he's gonna be the keeper.

Ok so just crossed almost every strain I have going in the bloom room plus 2 cmh girls with candyman haze boy pollen. Should be fun to see how these crosses turn out. In other news check out the size of these colas; IMG_4553.JPG IMG_4557.JPG IMG_4560.JPG IMG_4561.JPG first 2 are blue Dream and 2nd two are BC god bud....they are entering week 9. There's another blueberry headband that's just about ready to pull but pics came out horrible; I'll take a final pic before I cut her down cuz she's a perty one too thanks for lookin

Oh snap! Just broke the stem on this monster blueberry headband plant trying to bend her over & trim her cuz she's so dam tallView attachment 3993425 View attachment 3993426 View attachment 3993427 View attachment 3993428 . Oh well buds are fine & cola is still attached just barely hanging on. This plant is overvegged AF but will be very nice smoke; thanks for lookin
Ah nothing a nice bandaid can't set straight I hope!
Your plants are looking sooo beautiful! 8)

Thank you! It's all good she was being trimmed up for final harvest. Still hanging on by a half a thread; No harm no foul
In other news popped 5 TGA Bryan's Berry Cough seeds into soil on Friday. They all went off and were standing tall by Sunday morning. On a side note if you are looking for a domestic USA seed bank I highly recommend the canna genetics seed bank in Oregon. All the beans I've planted so far germinated in 3 days or less; their seeds are ripe and fresh!

There's nothing more vigorous than ripe fresh seeds, i didn't learn this until i made my own crosses and popped one of those seeds that were ripe and fresh and it grew so much faster than anything else i had popped.

Whoa I had no idea how quickly they grow seeds after getting knocked up. Tiny green seeds are already visibly growing on all my crosses. Got alotta seeds growing in places I didn't aim for too but that's cool; won't have to order any new beans for awhile.
Got to try some of the almost fully dried blueberry headband and it is just as heady and flavorful as I remember. Has that lovely old school blueberry taste and packs a decent punch. Beautiful dense and rock hard nuggets covered in frosty resin heads. I'll have to share pics when I finish trimming. Only complaint i have is that I think because they got revegged during flowering for a couple weeks the buds became "leafy-er" than they would've under normal bloom cycle which is making trimming the numerous and tiny sugar leaves on this plant kind of a bitch. On the upside it is making for a lot of material for sifting on my sift screens. I sure love that tasty dry sifted hash to top off my bowl after a long day; can't wait to have it again.

In other news the blue dream plant is almost ready to cut down in week 10 I think. Hard to say what week they are in due to the lingering effects of what will go down in history as the great timer fiasco of 2017. She got all milky and a few amber trichs lightly peppered now.
The BC god bud is taking her sweetass time as usual but she will be a good yielder; check out the giantass corn cobs she's barely holding up. Had to tie her all kinds of ways for support.IMG_4594.JPG IMG_4584.JPG IMG_4585.JPG IMG_4583.JPG IMG_4586.JPG Lotsa white pistils receding and turning orange now so I know it's at least another few weeks to go. Thanks for lookin peace

As bubablend has stealthily pointed out in another thread to avoid any "bad" press in this thread; thx you for that btw & much respect, there is obvious thrip damage to the Blue Dream plant.
A month or so ago I had thrips or whiteflies or leaf miners as they are called which were immediately quelled by spinosad in the Monterey garden spray used on them. Problem is that the damage they do never reverses once they put those tell tale white splotches in the veins of your fan leaves. I was amending with neem seed meal which controlled them for a long time but I ran out awhile back and have yet to replenish stock. Time to reup on amendments.
