Dee's Area51 LED Multi-Strain Grow

Today is day 7 of flower and things are still going well. A nice aroma is developing within the tent and pistols are shooting out everywhere. The plants have grown an average of about 6 inches since the flip with some being stretchier than others. So far have only had to tie down a few branches to maintain a somewhat even canopy. Not trying to stress the girls out right now so hopefully everything can stay within a few inches of eachother so I won't have to use anymore of the velcro straps.

Canopy control is what I am about, I love Sup Crop, there is a Sup Crop thread on here, look it up if you are interested. I love seeing knuckles on my stalks!

Its ok to Sup Crop during flowering but I usually stop at week 3 of flowering. Thats when the stretch is usually slowed down. After that I will LST them if needed.

@Dee, your plants are looking great and your canopy looks great too! Keep up the good work!

Late to the party, but I'm here for the flowering. I kept the flower light off for two weeks into flower. It helped with the stretch and was recommended by another successful LED grower. I'm about three weeks ahead of you. Nice work and looking forward to seeing your results. Prosp

Some impressive frost going on in your thread Prosperian, very well done. I honestly hadn't visited your thread for a couple of weeks and am blown away by your progress.

I will definitely wait two weeks into flower before flipping the reds on next go around. I vaguely remember reading something about that somewhere...

I am a little confused here, I am not a LED grower but you said you keep the flower light off for two weeks? Are they in total darkness for 2 weeks?

This particular LED light (same one as Prosperian) has a veg and flower setting, changed by a flip of a switch. Not much difference between the two besides the additional red LEDs (~630nm I believe..) in the flower setting. So only the white LEDs are on in veg mode and in flower mode the whites stay on IN ADDITION to some extra red LEDs.

Got it. I know nothing about led lights. Thanks for clearing it up for me to understand.

So its basically like leaving the mh bulb in for those 2 weeks before changing to the hps for a grower that uses hid lights. And thats awesome that those led panels have that option makes me want one more now but is it worth the price?

It is a nice feature. Sorry, just got back to the thread about the question on veg and flowering lights on the sgs-160. It's a good way to control stretch whether you are looking for more or less. That red switch on the top activates the red leds. I ended up with a good 20" of stretch above my screen.

That's a subjective question. It took me six months of research and watching a couple grower buddies use LED through harvest before I was convinced. I pointed someone to a different LED panel yesterday with double the output and cost $795. His needs were different than mine.

Yeah, you have the right idea, the mh and hps bulbs are like flipping the switch on the sgs-160; turning the red leds on or off. I ran a 400w MH/HPS HID before this LED. So far they have been identical in performance.

But I couldn't run HID in the summer because of the excessive heat in my closet and the amount a/c it was taking to cool it. Just wasn't worth it to me, so I stepped up and bought the LED. Now electric has dropped significantly, by 75%! That's a huge savings that more than covers the startup costs of LED.

Yea im battling heat issue's to but mainly because of small grow space and im sure an led could fix all that. When I get the extra cash I do plan on getting one

Good info man, thanks. I bet you have less watering too.

Yes, I do water 75% less often with LED. I avg. 3/4 to 1 gallon water per plant every 4 to 5 days in the 5 gal. Geopot fabric containers.

I am using fabric pots as well but I got to water them every other day.

A few branches were getting out of control again so I decided to supercrop. I practiced on the bubblegummer that I put outside and had some positive results by this morning. So I decided to take care of a few branches in the tent.

Overall I think everything went pretty smooth....

Day 15 of flower today and things are looking good. Buds are starting to form and the tent is smelling better and better everyday. I decided to lollipop earlier today for both better air flow through the plants and less popcorn buds at the end. Humidity is still hanging around high 50's, low 60's so I figured the more airflow the better.

Plants currently standing at 22"....

Everything was sprayed down again 3 days ago for hopefully the last time. So a total of 3 sprays with the neem/protekt/soap mix in about a 4 week span. Haven't spotted a bug in the tent yet so hoping the mites and such won't be an issue for the indoor plants. A few nibbles on the outdoor plant when it was first put outside but nothing lately. Hoping for the best.

Also i'm not sure if I did the super crop correctly. It didn't seem to stunt growth much and it was effective at lowering some of the bigger branches. I just don't see that knuckle as you described. It looks to me like I may have over done it a bit. Wondering how long it usually takes to recover and develope the knuckle.

Day 30 of 12/12 today. The plants finished there stretching a little more than a week ago and slowly but surely the buds are starting to form. Some of the branches have longer internodes than I was hoping for so hopefully everything fills out ok. Will definitely wait 2 weeks into 12/12 to switch the light to flower mode next go around to see if it makes a difference. Very anxious to see the end result.


Have been losing some lower leaves due to a lack of N I believe. Went a little too easy on the nutes. Rookie mistake. Also since the end of the stretch I have stopped the pro-tekt. Up until that point I had included the pro-tekt with just about every watering. The plants are strong and sturdy so I have nothing but positives to say about the product.












Looks like I have a purple pheno pure ak maybe? Hard to tell in the pics but the leaf tips are turning purple. A beautiful plant.












And here is the other pure ak pheno I have. The frostiest plant so far and smells like fruit punch when I rub the stem.









And the 4 mains of the smaller iced widow. The lst and supercropping combined spread the 4 out pretty good on this one. This is clearly the fastest flowering plant of the bunch.

Looking real good man! Nice canopy too! Just keep an eagle eye on those purpling stems....if its not strain related it can be a problem.
