It is a nice feature. Sorry, just got back to the thread about the question on veg and flowering lights on the sgs-160. It's a good way to control stretch whether you are looking for more or less. That red switch on the top activates the red leds. I ended up with a good 20" of stretch above my screen for the SCROG.
That's a subjective question. It took me six months of research and watching a couple grower buddies use LED through harvest before I was convinced. I pointed someone to a different LED panel yesterday with double the output of mine and $795 costs, because his needs were different than mine.
Yeah, you have the right idea, the mh and hps bulbs are like flipping the switch on the sgs-160; turning the red leds on or off. I ran a 400w MH/HPS HID before this LED. So far they have been identical in performance.
But I couldn't run HID in the summer because of the excessive heat in my closet and the amount a/c it was taking to cool it. Just wasn't worth it to me, so I stepped up and bought the LED. Now electric has dropped significantly, by 75%! That's a huge savings that more than covers the startup costs of LED.
