pot size is important in relation to plant size. of course bigger plants will require more room for there roots. ive always like stepping up from small pots to medium then to large a couple weeks before flower. more roots = more nutrient uptake.

a small plant in a 3 gallon and a small plant in a 5 gallon shouldnt make much of a difference. a large plant will have a harder time growing to its fullest in a 3 gallon when compared to a 5 gallon.

how big are they anyway? pictures?

Thank you for your input, i have tons of pictures in my log (Signature).

nice looking plants my friend. did you train them at all?

Thanks aeviaanah. I did train them, but this is my first grow so the plants weren't trained as they would have been by a seasoned veteran.

I also FIMMED (thanks MBlaze) and supercropped.

The supercropping really helped towards the end in controlling the stretch, suggested by my good friends SnowWhite and Don Gin and Ton.

More pix will be coming soon, they have really taken off since the flush.

How far in the game did you top and then when did you supercrop? I topped once and i am planning to super crop before i go 12/12. i need to move to a bigger closet tho after transplant to 3 gallons. everyone you mentioned has helped me...great growers. i did a scrog grow last grow and it worked pretty well. so this coco coir is working great for you eh? im battling something, not quite sure what it is. im pulling through it tho. im thinking it is ph was locking out magnesium. here is some pictures of my last grow in soil.

Fellow coco growers my plants are dieing, they are covered in brown spots. I cant figure out what is wrong. I have them under 24 hour lights, 24-30 inches from a 400 watt hps. temp ranges from 74-84f. Using botinicare coco brick, rather small fine mixture. Using Dutch master A 5-0-2.9 and B 1.5-1-3.5 nutes at 90% of the recomended dosage everywatering. Hand Watering with phd water of 5.5-6.0 almost every day, till the water runs out the bottom. Plants in 4 inch pots and are between 4-6 inches tall. I just bought and added Cal mag to my solution friday...

Any ideas would help, I'm thinking maybe i'm overwatering as the coco doesn't seem to be dry, or perhaps cal mag deficiency?

Please help!!!

if it were me i would back off on the watering for sure.

looks like over watering along with mag deficiency... try 1-2 ml per gallon of cal/mag next time u water....and make sure u add the cal/mag first, then your nutes.

npk's are a weird thing, the numbers can very a lot depending on if the nutes are organis, synthetic, powder, liquid, ect.

organics usually have a very low NPK and powder synthetics are usually really high PK.

i honestly dont know how they get all their values but i know the USA has a different method then the UK... a NPK of 0-10-11 can be the exact same as 0-13-14... (the label is the only difference)

but i usually ask around to see what kinda verbal feed back i get about a product. People usually think whatever they are using is "THE SHIT" so i dont take everything they say as a fact.

next i buy what im interested in, and use the new product on 15-25% of the crop. The rest of the crop gets its normal reciepe. This is the best way to try products out imo... some products need some tweaking and i might try 2 runs with it before i form a solid opinion on it.

AND YES, A LOT OF PRODUCTS THESE DAYS HAVE UNLISTED INGREDIENTS!! ALMOST EVERYTHING THESE DAYS!!

EVEN CAL/MAG PLUS HAS SULFER IN IT

GREAT WHITE IS 9% NITROGEN

TONS OF DIFFERENT PRODUCTS HAVE UNLISTED HORMONES, ACIDS, VITAMINS, ECT. ECT...

ITS USUALLY THE CHEAPER OLDER BRANDS THAT LIST ALL THEIR INGREDIENTS, AND THE NEWER MORE PRICEY COMPANIES THAT ARE HIDING THEIR "SECRET RECEIPES".

SOME OF THESE SECRET INGREDIENTS REALLY SEEM TO WORK, WHILE OTHER EXPENCIVE PRODUCTS SEEM TO NOTHING SPECIAL AND MAY NOT CONTAIN ANY SECRETS AT ALL?

MOST OF THE COMPANIES WONT TELL US MUCH.

I KNOW SOMEONE WHO HIRED A INDEPENDENT LAB TO TEST CANNA'S BOOST ACCELERATOR. THEY TOLD HIM THAT THE TEST RESULTS COULD NOT BE RELEASED BECAUSE THE FORMULA WAS PROTECTED BY MANY SPECIAL PATENTS... THEY SAID IT WAS LIKE HAVING COCA~COLA TESTED... (NOT GUNNA HAPPEN)

hey jberry, plants are doing much better now. still showing signs of stress but they are perking up much more. i will feed once more at a low dose then work up a little.

i got a question. some people swear by some nutrients. lets take fox farms for example....grow big is 6-4-4 and tiger bloom is 2-8-4. now on the other hand we can use something like supernatural gro with an npk of 20-20-20 and supernatural bloom 11-31-15. there is a big difference here, i understand one is organic and one is synthetic. how is it one can be successful with one and another can be successful with the other? ive always wondered about the different results one may get with trying different nutrients.. what do you look for in a good fertilizer? please elaborate on this subject and why it is important to understand these npk values and when you would want to use one product over the other.

also take GH chi foliar spray .2 - 0 - .2 or fox farms big bloom .01 - .3 - .7....how could a product this low in npk actual be of much use? there may be other micronutrients in other products that are helping but these two don't show any of the sort on the back. are there hidden ingredients in these that are helping with our grow?? have u used any of the nutrients mentioned? how about bio bizz bio grow?

you dont need very big pots when using coco like you would to a soil grow.

for plants in the 2-3+ foot range, my 2 gallons work good (never gotten root bound)...for bigger plants i would jump up a bit.

you want to feed as often as possible and you should only feed when the coco starts to dry out some.... if u use too big of pots then u wont be able to feed very often, and when growing hydro you want to feed, feed, feed.

This sounds great.

JBerry, how important is pot size for growing in coco.

Say if I have 6 girls under 2x600w HPS in a 22in x 78in space.

Currently I am testing 3 gallon (10in sq) pot vs. 5 gallon air pot. Their doesn't seem to be much difference at this point (6 weeks flowering). Can I downgrade to 2 gallon pots without lowering the yield?

house and garden work well. all ready to go, just make it and water. just use distelled, if oyur not already, as that makes a diff in nute uptake. drip clean is also ess if ou want to be sure salts are gone, but always fluff the coir. or get basement mix, the best.

"cutting edge solutions" works very well and you dont need to adjust the PH, so it is extremely easy to use, and can be used with almost any water source, but it was originally designed for california's diverse tap water ranges.

but they dont believe in using hormones or flowering boosters, so you may want to incorporate that in for the last 3 weeks of flower.

recently ive ran side by side tests using Canna, H&G, and Cutting Edge.

Now im using a very careful mix and match of the three (i wouldnt recommend mixing brands unless you do your homework first)...

Cutting Edge works best for vegging by far.
H&G works well for flowering.
And Canna has all around good results for your entire grow and is pretty problem-free..

for other brand additives, i like Gravity, Great White and Pumpkin Pro, MOAB, and Superthrive.

I am growing my first grow in coco. using canadian express a&b nutrients and havent been letting run-off when feeding.
I had a salt build up and flushed.
How much run off should i be allowing? each plant is comfortably take 2litres at a time with no run-off, maybe a little depending on time since last feed?
Any info would be much apreciated!

I'm watering at half the volume of the "soil" So 2 gal pot I use a gal of water. and get about 10% run off.

just think: you want to wash away the water that is sitting in the coco from the previous feed and replace it with fresh nutes.

as little as 10% and as much as 25% over the entire grow...

if you dont get run off with a watering, then thats okay... -just make sure you get extra run off on the next watering.

using the canadian express a&b it says to use 5ml of parts a&b per litre of water. does that mean 5ml of a and 5ml of b so 10ml per litre?

Also should i be feeding nutrients with each feed?

Thanks for any help in advance
