I have done it just not that long ago, I let the clone in a glass of water for a few days... I did use a dome though but no rooting hormone, it's alive and thriving

nature clones all of the time. advantigious roots TFW!
One can cut a small slit in the stem, at the point where you would normally cut it off to make a clone, right below a node, slide a small stone or a piece of a toothpick into the slit to keep it opened up, wrap it with moss or some fiber or fabric that will hold moisture. Use your sprayer to moisten the fibers, you can add a minute amount of hydrogen peroxide or bloom to the water. Wrap the area in thin and soft plastic sheeting, respray daily to insure moisture, wait a while, when roots form nicely cut it off below the root formations and plant it in your starting medium. Can we post links to videos here?

Rooting hormone is a waste of money on this plant. What you need is rockwool. Either the 1.5" unwrapped cubes or the macro-plugs. I have switched to the macro-plugs exclusively because they do not require creating new holes in the rockwool with a toothpick. Soaking/watering in 1/2 strength nutrient solution and a tall dome with adjustable vents, I haven't had a clone fail to root since around 1993.

IN DETAIL:

1. Cut a 3"-5" clone off the mother at a 45 degree angle on the stem, this will maximize surface area of the cut.
2. Quickly insert in pre-soaked and pH adjusted (about 1/2 strength nutrient solution) Macroplug or 1.5" unwrapped cube (A-OK Plugs). The cubes require a new hole via toothpick.
3. Place in adjustable vent dome assembly, preferably using the Grodan Gro-Smart tray to keep the clones up in the air. The tray is also great for pulling out and examining the progress of the clones - some will root faster than others.
4. Use a turkey baster to insure the rockwool is fully wetted right after insertion and for follow-up watering until the clones are rooted.
5. Rockwool rocks because it is transplantable to any other medium. Do not transplant until at least a dozen or so roots are showing on the clone.
6. Maybe use a Hydrofarm heat mat in the winter, depends on your area climate.
7. That's it, no spraying, no magic chemicals, no voodoo procedures, 100% effective.
