I'm embarrassed to admit I worked for one of the companies trying to extract oil from the oil sands. I personally developed ways to glue ceramic liners into the pipes so they could pump that shit. It's funny you never start off doing evil deeds for evil people. It's just a job you reason. Then the next thing you know you're working for environmental terrorists. Part of why I retired early.
At least you recognized what you were doing and stopped. That takes grit and commitment.

Never forget what Upton Sinclair wrote in his book, The Jungle; "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it"

Are there any positive news popped up relating our current climate besides our ozone layer healing quite well? I'm feeling criticism ticking here... :-P
Used to think environment quite much, now the ponderings seems to be purely in psychology.

The technological and economic tipping points in the green transition have been reached, and the social tipping point will breach soon. New investment in green energy now out pace that in FFs globally and in almost every individual country, including OPEC nations. Many chemical and engineering advances in battery tech have slashed cost, weight and minerals demand. EVs sold in true free trade markets have surpassed price parity to equivalent ICE vehicles, the next generation release of charging stations will reach charge/fuel time parity.

I regularly watch Just Have A think and some others... Tonight I watched a brief video about sodium reactor that will be in the states in a few years. But these won't convince me because of greed, corruption etc. I would like to hear more of the social tipping point you mentioned. I think the key, if there is one at our time limits considering resources and individual development criteria, is right there.

Also, if you're interested about my views on ego and its affects to build a healthy self and therefore collective, check this thread I popped up. Might make some sense.

The social tipping point happens when the FF defenders no longer have the resources to sustain their position. The ecomtech tip is almost always and near term precursor to the social. Basically your not going to to go out of your way to pay more for power just bc you don't believe in climate change. Your gonna buy the best car for your needs on your budget, regardless of your political views in 5 years the car will be electric in almost all sercumstances. When it's time to replace your hvac your gonna buy the best system at the lowest purchase/usage cost and that will be an electric heat pump(s), your not gonna pay more upfront and every month.
Your not going to invest in a project that is not price competitive and has no long-term certainly. Your gonna gonna try and start a project with major political push back if you have cheaper friendlier options.
Crude oil was selling at about $65/barrel last I check. At $60 new wells are not invested in, at $45 existing wells operate at minimal levels. OPEC is increasing production keeping that number low. OPEC is operating under the assumption that global demand will remain stable due to the rapid development of the global South. China is financing the development of the global South, and 90% of that development is centered on green energy, smart grids and rapid mass transit. Add it all up and we got a 2-5 year run way between peak oil and a rapid price drop, causing production to grind to a halt, once disrupted it will not be profitable to restart production and even 1/4 of current scale
